  1. As for the Town of Greenburgh I may be wrong (and feel free to correct me if I am) but the Villages receiving the payment for services for the fire protection districts ie Glenville that village would be Tarrytown, they are only allowed by law to give the FD 37% of that money the rest of the money can be used in the general budget. so you all can do the math IF the town of Greenburgh pays Tarrytown $100,000.00 to cover Glenville hmmm a whole lot got into the general fund. so politicians do have a conciderable say in the matter of consolidation. I do believe that centeral dispatching is one key element that should be considered as a starting point--second should be automatic duel responses to high life hazards --schools-hospitals-nursing homes, my house you get the idea. Third might be centralized training, in general everyone has to be on the same page so that the page can be turned. You need a true study of alarms-response times-manpower-training-apparatus to get things started
  2. Just letting you guys know the whole Greenville Fire district has Scarsdale as the mailing adress---go figure.
  3. Well one of the problems is that The Town of Greenburgh has Fire Districts---separate identities separate funding created by the State of New York many years ago, so combining them would take votes by the people living in the areas-then legislation has to be passed. It is not as easy as you think. not saying it cant be done but it isn't easy. Another thing to consider is the town of Greenburgh Pays to have places protected with in the boundaries of the town. Example Elmsford has a hugh fire protection district--that the town of Greenburgh Pays the Village to protect--that brings money into the village would they want to give that up?? would they have to?? again not saying it cant be done just a lot more to it then we might all think.
  4. what if you just said " what the" will we all still get the meaning?? Happy Holidays to all at EMT Bravo keep smiling keep up the good work
  5. I am not sure if the Common Council of White Plains can do much, it is my understanding that there is a Stipulation of agreement signed by both parties. That is as good as a signed contract. If the Mayor signed off on the agreement and didn't have the power to do that then shame on him--he should have never been at the bargaining table. Good luck to the brothers in White Plains
  6. We move froward into the new century new ideas, new developments, new radio systems, new everything, new fire apparatus hmm T town has a few of those . Just because it isn't broke doesn't mean you cant and shouldn't upgrade. there's nothing wrong with 1 1/2 lines but we moved to 1 3/4 we found it gave us better water at the fire. Don't stand still the world will pass you by. You keep referring to the thruway so i am generalizing that there is a problem there, I am sure it could be worked out or is there a deeper problem that we are unaware of. ?? the Tarryown system is ok --not sure if its the be all end all of telecommunications. just another opinion here on EMT Bravo where we can agree to disagree and still get along.
  7. NYMedic-- 60 control can do all those things as well as any police department. All the information that is asked by the dispatchers is logged in the computer and the personality s are taken out of it. IE its "Mrs Smith again complaining" "go check it out" is that good or bad it can be debated. I think if you error you error on the side of caution. Street locations, apartment numbers, all those things can easily be taken care of by control there by freeing up other agencies. just my random thoughts this morning. BTW I live in one of those complexes you speak about. Couldn't have said it better myself
  8. We forget way too fast
  9. We as citizens of the united states we cannot lower our selves, we have them we give them a trial, hopefully they are found guilty under our system and punished accordingly. Torture is not the American way let us not stoop so low, we hold out head high around the world and want to be respected by all nations that look to America as a government and a democracy and a way of life. We love to argue, make different points, that's why we have elections and our country has survived as long as it has. We love to say that freedom isn't free, a lot of Americans have given there all so that the flag waves in freedom every day.
  10. Another sad day for the fire service my thoughts and prayers are with the family. Lets see if we can learn for this, read this carefully and see if you come to the same conclusions. Its a tragic lose that might have been preventable.
  11. You might want to consider if they are part of the 2 in 2 out rule, then yes they need to be dressed in proper attire.
  12. heres a good question--why dosent My Vernon save money and take the other recruits out of the class too?? that way that are all equal. Right now that individual is rideing a rig while the other Vernon recruits are breaking their A$$es at the academy. How do you think theses other guys feel-knowing that if they foul up : 1-they wont lose their job 2-they will get suspended with pay 3-when things die down a little you get to go back to company and get special training. 4-no lose of time just makes you wonder In fact if you can train them in service and not in a academy---why have one?? there has to be so me of you Academy graduates out there how do you feel about this.??
  13. now it really thickens---driving and drinking do not mix at any time. just wondering if i am missing the irony here speeding on Snail road??maybe he should have been driving at a snail pace when he was coming around to that cornor ?? I do believe that he is in a little trouble.
  14. als you mean that guy with the little trees and things??
  15. Congratulations John an award well deserved.
  16. As a former director of a Fire Academy let assure you that the unions are at work --hopefully protecting their members. In Westchester we had to include the PT hours as part of the day, so that if any probie got hurt they would at least have some coverage. The day lasted till 1600 hours because that's what we were told were the probies working hours 0800 to 1600. Do admit to keeping them at times till 1630 but it was a rare occasion. As for the brother hood I can also tell you that they got along just fine and are now staffing their departments with over 300 hours of State and local training. You do need discipline but not punishment, there is a difference. You do not have to punish people to make them work for you--you lead by example and show them what the fire Service and brotherhood is all about, they get the message loud and clear from the instructors. I can also tell you that the state of New York OFPC has to approve the Academy and its content. It has the responsibility of the training of probationary firefighters in the State of New York. So they must have approves the Utica Academy
  17. Maybe its time for Battalion 18 to weigh in here--the coordinator is just that- they respond into the assigned area when mutual aid is requested from the County. They do not make policy or strategy /tactics. They seek out the IC and keep them informed of where the mutual aid is located and what is available to them from the County. They are a direct line to Control. They are they to help the IC as needed not to make policy or tactical decisions. The control of the fire and all that goes with it belongs to the Incident Commander and the Local Fire Department.
  18. Great video-- just used it last night in building construction class.
  19. may he have a speedy recovery and join the ranks as quickly as possible.
  20. This one seems pretty easy to answer--if i was sure they needed help and no key, I would make entry notify PD and make sure they are responding. This way I am sure i can turn over the scene to them when I leave and go back to bed!!!
  21. don't forget where Sams club is was a drive in theater.
  22. Chief Flynn has hit it pretty much on the head-- Back in the day--we were using filter masks that hung around your neck--very few scba's. Ladders were made of wood and dam they were so heavy. Fire apparatus---no power steering---open cabs--in '68 some of the apparatus were still from the '50's. power saws?? what were they?? rubber gear --rubber gloves no 100' aerials. no tower ladders you mean yes we climbed. 2 1/2 was the main stay to lay in with. booster lines were so common. In the winter you had to put on chains no automatic stuff back then. most of the apparatus had the cab back the nose stuck out in front. no hoods very few belts. ohh and the ladder truck had pompier ladders and life nets!!!! every one had a beard:) or at least long hair--hey it was 1968. we were a generation just coming into its own. Life was grand and so much more relaxed. one thing hasn't changed Chiefs still wore white coats and helmets and we addressed them as Chief and respected their position. I was 20 and loving life to the fullest
  23. thanks mofire but it dosent sound or look like type 2 from the pics i have looked at. it is interesting to note the changes over the years. Were there additions or alterations to the building?? new facade or anything like that added? just wondering glad everyone went home safe
  24. Looks like quite a job---hope all came home safe. I am doing a building construction class--can anyone tell me more about the building?? construction date? renovation dates?? former occupants?? I would love to share with me class. Thanks
