We have an on going problem not just with a local nursing facility but also private doctor offices. Our friendly local nursing home does have a contract, however, when there is a delay in response from them, they'll call 911 because the patient is experiencing whatever the problem may be. When the EMT is told the patient is experiencing shortness of breath or chest pains, it's a legitamate call. The problem is even more complicated with the private doctor offices. Most of the time, the EMS crew is told that the patient MUST go to XYZ Hospital regardless if another is closer or not. Not to find out upon arrival that it ends up being a direct admit. This type of behavior, in my opinion, is an abuse of service. For as long as the doctors and nurses know how to play the game, EMS is obligated to transport as long as the described symptoms are legit or not.

I'ts always difficult to get a truck or an engine i/f/o the structure when there's 3 cheifs cars and 2 police cars parked in front of it!!! I won't disagree with you there. Luckily, our chiefs know better than to do something like that. Now the cops....... They'll either park in the driveway and get blocked in (serves them right), or, they'll guarentee marking a hydrant for us (behind their car). We do have security guards in certain complexs in town that do a great job of parking ifo the effected structure. I understand what you're saying, in order to do an efficient initial attack, venting and water have to be done simultaniously. Say you have something even as simple as a room and contents. While the hose team gains entry to the fire room, the vent team should be in place ready to take out a window so there someplace for the heat and smoke to go. This will let the hose crew do a quicker knock down by not going in blind. Here's a question. The engine arrives to the fire first and you have reports of persons still in the stucture, do you go in and preform S&R abandoning the hose line? OR do you wait for the truck to do their job while the hose team protects them?

TOD was approx 2100 Hrs. Fire was in a commercial structure at the Yeshiva settelment, that house electrical equipment that distributed power to the rest of the complex.

Truck - What good is the truck when you can't get near the house? You hose haulers can always add hose when needed. A stick can't extend beyond it's maximum length. Additionally, proper truck placement is alot easier when the MPO doesn't foul things up by parking the engine in front of the structure.

Of course it's just a coincidence that the same departments win the same parades year after year. Expecially the times the department in question doesn't even march! And yes, I have seen departments win trophies that didn't march in certain parades.

It was a fall victim. A firefighter fell and was Stat-Flighted to WCMC with a head injury. May he have a speedy recovery.
-
At least it wasn't raining. I more often rains than not during their parade. Congrat's to all the departments that won trophies including: Best Engine - Mahopac 18-2-3 Best Ladder - Briarcliff Manor L-40 Best Rescue - Pound Ridge R-22 Best Tanker - Millwood T-15

Another problem with last year was the change of venue at the last minute. Becaue of this the muster committee pulled out so it was just the chilli cook off.
-
Just passing the state test doesn't mean your automatically nationally certified. You would still have to take a nationally exam in addition to the class exam.

Thank you to all that came out and supported us, and more importantly, the Arena's yesterday, including WCDES Commissioner Tony Sutton (yes, he was put to work). Despite the weather, the day was a huge success!

As I've posted in another thread, word has it there will not be a muster or chilli competition this year.

The software we use is integrated with our CAD program. www.alpinesoftware.com

In talking to one of individuals who has coordinated it in the past, it may not be going on at all due to funding. This Saturday, there is a muster in Shelton, CT and lets not forget about Milford's in September.

Rye Brook also has somewhat of a commercial district. Regardless of whether or not they close at night, I think we can all agree it's an improvement to what it was not that long ago.

I can almost guarantee that this will be no less than an excellent lecture. Knowing Paul personally, along with his background, there are few more qualified to teach us on how to deal with this issue.

Lucky me. ](*,) Anyway, as previously said, it was an outdoor showing of Grease at the Somers Commons Shopping Center. The event was organized by the Somers Rotary along with several other sponsers. The screen and movie were shown by a company that does this sort of thing as a business.

Bump for this weekend. I hope everyone has a chance to stop by and support this worthy cause.

Our Lady of Mercy Hospital

That's very easy to believe. Mike usually only photographs Seagraves and Macks.

Hmmm, it was told at a meeting last night that the radio's are due to be installed in apparatus at year's end.
-
What's the matter Ed, afraid we're going to move to the east now? Maybe we'll take over your Station 2 and make it our Station 9. At least it would be a quicker response to the commercial district in that area. The new truck would be a plus too! Just remember, carnival season is coming up. I'm sure we could get a banner up during our annual standby with out anyone noticing. 8) Remember that Loo! :-P

What are the vertical lights above the grab rails behind the front cab doors? Water level lights?
-
Neither was Yorktown or Croton Falls. But mind you it was Yorktown's actions that led up to the assult. By taking over the firehouses, we can justify the elevated response numbers that were posted on our sign board. 8)
