  1. They have only had that ladder truck for the last three or four years (approx). Prior to Banksville aquiring it, it belonged to the Glenville Fire Company (Greenwich FD, Station 4).
  2. Armonk FD ambulance covers all of the Town of North Castle. Being Banksville is a hamlet of North Castle. Armonk is the EMS transporting agency. However, Banksville Independent Fire Company does EMS first response. On the Greenwich, CT side of Banksville, EMS response is handled by GEMS (Greenwich EMS).
  3. The problem with a unit transmitting "Engine xyz to 60" is who are they calling? Engine 60, Ladder 60. 60 Controls identifier is not 60. Years ago, WCDES issued a memo to use full identifiers on the radio so communications aren't as confusing. This is especially true of car numbers. Example: Somers Car 2441 and Goldens Bridge Car 2141. If both departments are operating together at an incident and a unit calls "Eng 180 to 41" who are they calling? It has happened and has made for confusion.
  4. I would try the "Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator Handbook from IFSTA. It can be found at the IFSTA website.
  5. There is a spell check integrated with the Google toolbar. It will check the spelling on any web form. Just type and click. For the lazy types, it also has an auto fix function.
  6. No it's not, the little white masks are useless for smoke situations. There is no substitute for SCBA. It's bad enough that is someone gets smoked as a result of not wearing SCBA, OSHA could be paying you a visit. If they read the firefighter casualty report and see a particle mask was used, they'd fine the department for stupidity. If they'd read that no respiratory protection was used, then you only be fined for ignorance.
  7. Ok, heck, the Bullard is what I was referring to. The T3 Max to be exact. Small, light weight, easy to use for your day to day op's. Combine that with the vehicle mount charging system and you'll have two batteries ready to go at all times. I have seen isolated problems with the camera (short in the display connection). The local vendor was there to pick it up the next day with a loner camera. Had the repaired camera back in a week. Best of all, we weren't required to go through the bidding process with it as there's a NY State bid contract for it.
  8. Which Eagle TI are you inquiring about? The 160 or the Eagle X? I've recently done a lot of research on TIC's and I'm personally not a big fan of the Scott TIC's. I'm not saying they're not good, just not my preference comparatively speaking. The Eagle's are larger than some of the other TIC's on the market and uses some of the competitors technology. I must say I'm pretty much impartial to another manufacturer. I won't say who's as not to alter your decision. Again, just my preference.
  9. Is that possible?
  10. Any time you alter normal traffic patters on a highway it becomes a work zone. Highway doesn't mean an interstate either. It means any road, from I-684 to the least traveled road in your response district. This means signs are required as are cones. What Chris stated is exactly what a blocker is. A piece of apparatus dedicated to shield the incident. It acts a buffer between the traffic and responders. It wouldn't serve it's purpose if you kept getting equipment out of it throughout the incident. Light duty vehicles are not recommended for this purpose. If someone crashes in to a chief's car or mini/utility vehicle, you now have two objects coming at you. Ideally the blocking vehicle would be an engine or ladder that would absorb the impact of another vehicle.
  11. What EMSCOMM80 isn't much different than the current squads, mass decon trailers and MDSU teams that Westchester County has put into play. There is one squad comprised of three departments (S6 - Greenville, Fairview and Hartsdale). You take a group of firefighters, with specific minimum training standards, from specific neighboring departments to form the unit. They then train together and respond together. I don't think anyone is implying that you just pick members out of a hat and team them up with someone from accross the county and respond blindly. It's all about training.
  12. I think they just did.
  13. In order to take FFII, you must have either: FFI OR Basic Firefighter (91), Intermediate Firefighter (92), and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations (31) Additionally, if you started training prior to the year 2000, you need: Firefighting Essentials (02), Initial Fire Attack (10), Firefighter Safety and Survival (28), Fire Behavior and Arson Awareness (03), and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations (31)
  14. Basic firefighter doesn't qualify you as an interior firefighter let alone meet FDNY's training requirements. Today equivalent of Basic is Scene Support Operations. Firefighter I encompasses the former Basic and Intermediate. FFII is an excellent idea for a mutual aid standard. What good is incoming mutual aid if 2 members of a 4 man engine are exterior only? That will not likely serve the objectives of the incident commander for the mutual aid assignments.
  15. That message board has had a long history of hacks. Just idiots in general with too much free time I guess. Emtbravo.com doesn't come close to the radio info that was avalible on that site.
  16. My condolences for your loss. May Jimmy rest in peace.
  17. From the looks of it, the first sentence says it all: First responders means everyone. What irks me the most about this is how a political head can't make up his mind. He makes a decision, then with a little pressure, backs down.
  18. Very nice. Hopefully they will clear the low bridges, unlike demos of years past.
  19. One way of spell checking is prior to posting, cut and paste the content of the post in a program with spell check such as Word or an email prog. After the post content is correct, cut and paste back to the reply box.
  20. I'd be curious to see if anyone from OSHA (or MA equivenant) watched it. I thought it was rather interesting that during the car fire scene the narrator is explaining how poisonous the smoke is and not one firefighter is wearing SCBA. Better yet, the Lieut explains you "just stay upwind of the smoke".
  21. I had read several months ago about the new licenses. The reason for the change is exacaly as stated. To make them less likely for alter or duplicate.
  22. Be lucky there was no sand with the K-Y. But yes, I got a similar letter from the oil company I work for. Even with an employee discount, it's expensive.
  23. I'm not sure on equiptment but, they get toned out by Putnam County 911. If the job is in Westchester, they switch over to 46.260.
  24. Many bumpers are affixed to the vehicle with shock absorbing mounts. If the shocks heat up, they can "explode" and shoot it away from the vehicle with enough force to take out a knee cap or two. I have seen these shocks let go and fire approximately 30-40 feet and enbed its self into a concrete block foundation.
  25. You're absolutely right. The only talking squirrel anyone should take seriously goes by the name of Rocket J. Squirrel AKA Rocky. At least he has a known education (Snare Drum Major at Juilliard and degree at Cal Tech (Calvin's School of Supermarket Technology)).
