I drove by there yesterday on my way to The Chance, and it has been partially knocked down. Any word on Cause/Origin?

If the Chief/PIO/whoever has the authority gives the FF in question permission to sell or publish the photos, then that is acceptable. But most agencies have a policy against sharing information with the media without proper authorization. Whether or not that is right is another issue altogether, but them's the rules.

I was in Specialty Warning a few months back and saw a Tahoe with GM's Flexfuel system that allows for more ethanol in the gas system. Good idea, but if you use a municipal fuel pump, the ethanol isn't going to be there, so you've basically squandered money. I know Chevy just came out with Hybrid Tahoes/Suburbans, but I'd have to agree with PV102, the lifespan hasn't been tested yet. But will a hybrid afford you the same power/torque that a regular engine will? I don't know, I'm just asking.

Or the town should take some initiative and beef up their water supply system. If you have the hydrants they might as well work.

The CT Lifestar Safety Course teaches you how to access the cockpit if the bird goes down, but I do not believe it requires a hoseline. New Fairfield pulls one just in case, I believe its a standing order to do so. I don't know exactly what an engine company can do for a helicopter crash unless they carry enough foam to handle it, but I suppose its better than nothing.

Everything has been good for me for a few days.

Allingtown Fire District in West Haven, CT still has a Mack CF as its spare Engine 3.

I don't know how things work in NY, but in CT the DEP HAZMAT will respond (usually with one guy) to a call lights and siren if you request them, but they don't make entry. They are usually present in an advisory/testing capacity.

Rest in Peace Chief.

Connecticut uses the I-Call/I-TAC system that allows every fire, police, and EMS agency in the state to communicate. Every fire chief/police chief/EMS chief has a portable.

There is a bigger push to use NIMS/ICS in law enforcement, as they have been playing catch up to the fire service for awhile. (This isn't arrogance speaking, I work in a police department and see this all the time.) But alot of departments are getting really progressive in sending personnel for training and certifications in those areas. Law enforcement already has such a bureaucracy built into their structure that they always have an easy time falling into place as far as NIMS is concerned. I don't know how things are done in New York, but I see alot of Connecticut departments getting proactive about it.

Connecticut usually requires you to challenge the practical in order for the cert to transfer.
-
Are they just off-shift guys using spare apparatus so the frontline pieces stay in service, or are all these rigs really out of service?
-
None of those are used for anything useful except the first two. The lowband channels are used for fire police, as their other channel was the same as DPW (marked Highway there,) which they promptly got rid of due to its horrible reliability. I don't know why there is a repeater on there, because we don't actually have one. 155.6775 is your best bet. Channel 2 (155.7975) is only really used when we have multiple calls.
-
The easiest way to pick up NF Fire/EMS would be to tune to 155.675. That isn't the exact frequency, but its what I use and I have no problem. I will try to look up the exact and get back to you with a PM.

That is argueably the funniest thing I've read in awhile. Talk about egg on your face.

www.cfsi.org Anyone else from here going down to D.C. for the conference/seminars/dinner next week? Just wondering, because I'm going down with some people from school. Sounds like there will be some interesting seminars on grant-writing, wildland/urban interface, etc, as well as a display of new technology being used nationwide, and a "town hall meeting" with members of Congress allowing members of the fire service to voice their opinions/concerns on issues that will affect the future of our business.

Reminds me alot of the Chris Kangas case in PA of the Junior Firefighter who was denied benefits because he was not a "fully trained and certified firefighter." Quite a load of crap. Auxillaries, Juniors, Explorers, Cadets all put in work, so we all deserve benefits. Obviously these officers died because of their duties as a Auxillary cops, so why shouldn't they be entitled to the benefits? Discuss. Reason for edit: Forgot to drop the "Y" and add "ies" for auxillaries.

Rest in Peace Brother.

When will this end?

You can already see it in Connecticut, at least 8 bank robberies in the past month or so.

99% of people my age don't know who this guy is. I thought the story was interesting, but nobody knows what I'm talking about when I refer to it. Glad someone other than me cares.

Chris you beat me to it, I had some pictures I took at home, but mine weren't very good anyway. This rig is nice, but its ALITTLE on the big side.

I think the point of this thread was made, you're probably right about moving on FFNick.

I don't know, I didn't post the scenario.
