  1. I'd qualify Chris Kangas as an LODD because he was responding (regardless of what DoJ says) whereas Ralph was just hanging out with his friends, though they are both tragedies nonetheless.
  2. Sorry, you're right. I'd be against it just for that.
  3. Bnechis, it doesnt say you can't have 100% coverage. It says "at a minimum" 10% individual and 25% dependent. Meaning if your department/town wants more, you can get it. Thats a union issue though, the state can't really mandate that.
  4. The Israeli police have it right: See a terrorist? Shoot a terrorist. No arrests, no trial, just a 9mm hemmorage to the frontal lobes. Plus, Israel has alot of what is equivalent to US Sky Marshals. Only better armed and there are a helluva lot more of them. Personally, I'm willing to have my trip slowed down for the sake of security. Its just like responding to a call, I want to get there alive, no matter how long it can take.
  5. Goshen? Several of my relatives were the first Chief's of Minisink H&L in Goshen... Anyway, beautiful rig. New Fairfield, CT Company "A" should be getting a new Pierce Velocity within a year.
  6. You know what I meant by "messing." Attempting to seriously injure or kill another is grounds for the use of deadly force. Assaulting an officer or civilian is grounds for use of physical force. Do things get out of hand sometimes? Yes, but such is life. If a few scumbags have to go to the hospital/morgue to make society safer, I have no problem with that. These officers acted in self-defense, and theres nothing anyone can say to make me believe otherwise.
  7. If New York burns, Al Sharpton had damned well better be charged with inciting a riot. I find it funny how the people outside the courtroom were praying to Jesus for justice and peace, but after the verdict came out they fought with police officers. There's a lesson to be learned here, don't mess with the police, and you won't get preforated.
  8. You are either twisting the facts or not understanding them, neither is good. One officer fired 31 rounds, one fired 11, 1 fired four rounds. The remainer of the shots came from Detectives who were not charged. Nobody fired 50 times, but lets do the math on the officer who fired 31 rounds. -NYPD Standard Issue firearm is the Glock 17. -A Glock G17 9mm Parabellum handgun has a magazine of 17 rounds. Add to that the additional round which would have been loaded into the chamber and you have 18. RECAP: 17 + 1 = 18 -Now, the Detective proceeded to reload and fire another 13 rounds from a second magazine. That's 13 rounds from a 17 round magazine. -The Practical Rate of Fire (PRoF) for the Glock 17 semi-automatic handgun is 40 rounds per minute. So the officer was only firing at 77% of the attainable PRoF of the weapon, a very easy feat for someone well trained on the Glock handgun. The officer would have been firing for 46 seconds, not a very long time when a car is repeatedly ramming you. The officers acted in what they (and I) believed to be the course of defending themselves, therefore the shooting should be justified. Also, Al Sharpton should get a job, and stop seeking sound bytes of himself.
  9. I'm sure this all happened because the governor couldn't see the paperwork...
  10. Dondestro would be the person to ask. Shoot him a PM, he would probably know, being that he used to run with Mutuals
  11. Try looking at corporate donors, since they can write things off on their taxes, and its always good headlines for them (and you)
  12. 1. I'm not from Westchester. 2. If you read my post, I said that IF what the ULSTER COUNTY Chiefs are saying is true, then DEC has serious explaining to do. If the fire was almost under control and the state came in and changed that, then there is certainly an issue to be addressed.
  13. I totally agree that this is a shameful and improper display of the flag at half-staff. I think what we're seeing here (volunteers quitting en masse) is going to be a continuing trend if some leaders in the fire service want things done "their way" or "the old way" as opposed to the safe and effective way. As a whole, I think the younger members of the fire service are getting frustrated with the old rule and unfortunately, many times a mass exodus is the only way to bring attention to the subject. I see alot of fire departments where young members are fed up with the way their leaders run things, and the "good old boys (or girls)" club becomes introverted and self-serving by not allowing younger members to step up and take initiative to move departments into progress. Best of luck to the guys still serving, and I hope the Fire Commission listens to your pleas.
  14. That can't be possible. DEC could not be that stupid. What you're saying would be a reckless disregard for the safety and health of firefighters and the general public, if the fire had spread more than it did.
  15. Wow, beautifully maintained...
  16. Should be interesting to see how this pans out. If what the Chief's are saying is true, the state has some explainin' to do...
  17. I have to ask, was it wise, from an operational security standpoint to say that Empress' Special Ops vehicle will have chem/bio antidotes on board? I remember a few weeks ago we were discussiong the Mk1 Atropene kits and people declined to discuss where they are located for the sake of security. Personally, I think that was alittle rash on the part of Empress/the media to release that information.
  18. Tim/sbvfd, In the picture you posted of me, I was outside the collapse zone (1.5x the height of the structure) and was therefore not in a hot zone, nor trained to a level in which I should be without proper supervision, as I was a junior firefighter at the time. Therefore I was not in danger and did not really require full PPE to be safe. Also, don't post pictures you didn't take yourself, it violates the forum's policy on photos. For the record, there are a few pictures of you out there with inappropriate PPE as well. The point was that he SHOULD have been wearing proper PPE, as you and I should have too. The point I'm making ny10570, is that if the member was wearing his PPE over the uniform shirt, the problem would have been nullified, correct? If I'm wrong, let me know please. I'm not trying to be a smartass, just raising a possible point.
  19. "For how you train, so shall you fight." -Tacticus Guy should have been wearing full PPE, training or no.
  20. I'm also looking for Fairfield County dispatch jobs, preferably Part-Time ones.
  21. I'd imagine the federales are in play for this as well. Secret Service? Other agencies? Anyone? Bueller?
  22. When I was very young someone gave me a metal sign that advertised Texaco Fire Chief Gasoline to hang on my wall, its been there ever since. I just never knew what was special about it. I assumed it was just a marketing ploy. Good find, thanks Seth.
  23. However, that Rescue Captain from Chicago could have a good shot at becoming a paid fire chief in a town in CT where they have competitive Chief's exams...
  24. I agree, there are alot of agencies out there with alot of special powers. Perfect example: The Department of Education has a police agency. Probably the agency with the widest police powers? Postal Inspection Service. You DO NOT mess with the mail. As a note, they were probably used for their Explosive Detection Dog Teams.
  25. As of right now, if I read one more paid vs. volunteer post, I WILL lock/delete this entire topic and move to suspend members who continue the topic. Stay on topic, or else.
