According to WFSB Channel 3, 1 firefighter suffered a back injury, the others who were transported for the HAZMAT evaluation were treated and released. The FF with the back injury will be OK, according to Channel 3.

If this is the same street I'm thinking of, there was a fire a few years back on the same street, or one very close to it, that New Fairfield got called directly to the scene for. Our tanker was on scene before the first line was off the truck. Anyone know why Mill Plain got called ahead of New Fairfield? Seems like they'd be alittle farther away... We got sent to standby in Putnam Lake this time.

I absolutely agree, he would have gotten his just desserts no matter if he stopped or not. If he wouldn't have stopped one of three things would have caught up to him. 1. the radio. 2. a helo 3. the law of probabilities, and the meat wagon that would follow.

While I do believe the Taser is a justified use-of-force and can be a very helpful tool for officers to have on their belts, it seems to me that more and more officers are relying on the Taser instead of other tactics such as hand to hand or nightstick, and as a result, when officers are forced to go hand-to-hand, they are caught off guard and often injured. Believe me, this is in no way intended to be a knock on any member of law enforcement, but I have witnessed such an instance firsthand and heard of several others when the Taser was used in a situation where another method would have been significantly more effective (such as the pursuit of a known drug suspect, where the officer drew his taser instead of his firearm, and the suspect became combative and went for the officer's firearm.) I think that new technology is great, but it must be balanced in with everything else in an officer's repetoir instead of being the primary means of restraining a combative suspect, especially given its reduced effectiveness on suspects with low body fat.

I disagree, FDNY and NYPD have neither the time nor the inclination to run a mobile WMD lab, whereas DEPs job IS to protect the environment and assess any damage to it during a terrorist attack. It fits exactly within the parameters of their mission.
