  1. Of course, thats what I stated. Gear and SCBA should be immediately available if not on.
  2. Only thing is, the other districts don't have to provide coverage. West Haven Center is having some budget problems of their own, and it would be very unlikely that they would be able to handle the additional call volume themselves without having to increase their budget. This "rogue" group of taxpayers seems to think that they can just get rid of the AFD and someone will pop up in its place... Not likely.
  3. Hey, I was at that burn! Ah the day of being a junior, though I can't remember if I took that picture or one of the Patterson guys did. In Allingtown Engine 8, we ride as follows: Driver Officer Pipeman Backup Pipe Hydrant Backup Hydrant (after water supply is established, this individual or the hydrant man, whoever is FF1 or most senior, goes for a new assignment per OIC)
  4. Positions as in rank structure or positions as in riding assignments?
  5. Yeah, tis the season. Thanks for the wishes ryefd, same to you. Good luck guys and have a safe trip home.
  6. As some others have mentioned, I don't think having the word "Paramedic" on the side of the rig constitutes a duty to act as an ALS provider. I drive NF Medic 1's car to the hospital behind the ambulance, does that mean that I would have to provide ALS service to anything I came across on the way? Absolutely not. You don't have to be an EMT to drive that truck to the hospital. Good point though, it does kind of come off as false advertising.
  7. Obviously the driver should have their gear with them and should have SCBA available to them on the rig, but whether or not they wear it while driving should be left up to individual departments, based on what works in their apparatus and how their SOPs run. Wearing it while on a scene? I'd say its dependent upon the SOPs again. But, like rbuchjr said before his post was deleted, are we going to make the Chief, the PD, the news, and the bystanders all wear turnout gear and SCBA because the wind might send some smoke their way? Unlikely. Either way, good topic for discussion
  8. If their ISO rating is a 9, why don't they build another, smaller substation to reduce their on-paper response times and gain ISO points? That would seem alittle more logical.
  9. I'd say execute them. I'd rather that than have someone take hostages to demand their release.
  10. The point is that crime has recently increased in the Southeast/Brewster area. The village was just the only part that took steps to address the issue. My previous post did make it seem as if the person in the shooting was an illegal, but he was not, he was an intox/EDP, but my larger point remains. The Village of Brewster is taking steps to solve its crime problem without relying solely on PCSO and NYSP (which is not to say that they aren't doing a good job, they most certainly do a great job) but there is something to be said about community policing and focusing on a specific area.
  11. Sounds like it could be a Collyer Mansion type situation. Anybody know anything more?
  12. Perhaps the Village of Brewster decided it needed a Police Department/K9 Unit for the simple fact that it is overrun with criminals who don't belong in this country... hmm? After the semi-crackdown in Danbury, Brewster has definitely seen an increase in violence and drug activity recently. I do believe a Trooper in Southeast had to shoot a suspect about a year ago, and there have been alot more assaults and narcotics arrests that I'm seeing in the news as of late. Kudos to a town taking efforts to curtail its illegal immigrant population. I know they are in negotiations with ICE to enter their cooperation program, as Danbury is also doing.
  13. Just something to think about, if this guy had taken out someone on the side of the road while he was rushing to the hospital, or hit something, and caused birth complications, or injured another person, the media/public would be clammering to find out why the police weren't patrolling the area, etc. Its unfair that this officer can't win in this situation. Hence my respect for the police, they aren't afraid to be "the bad guy" when they're protecting people.
  14. Yeah, that was a quick aquisition, wasn't this department just started a few years ago? Either way, best of luck to the BPD and hope the new officer(s) have safe careers.
  15. No no no. They are activated by the dispatch console to wake up the medics when they get a call! Hahah, just kidding.
  16. Rest in Peace El-Tee. My thoughts and prayers are with the Lieutenant's family, the crew of Engine 155, and the FDNY as a whole.
  17. Its not just for college kids though Seth, recently, the entire command staff of NFVFD got accounts, its becoming very popular with those outside of college. Definitely a great way to keep up with people you haven't seen in a long time. I found the kids I went to elementary school in Marlboro, NY just a few months ago... I'd say give it a shot.
  18. Already posted an IA for this under National/International incidents. Check there for more info.

  20. Exactly, it is not the IC's job to dispatch. The dispatchers have the ability to request whatever the IC needs, the IC should be worrying about more important details like water supply, structural integrity, etc than who specifically is coming M/A. The dispatcher, however, is more equipped to know who is available, since they are more apt to know what else is going on at the time. I hate to see it when ICs specifically ask for certain stations and not others. What do you care what the side of the truck says, provided they have adequate manpower and equipment to help mitigate your situation. But, the human factor can never really be taken out of the equation, sometimes, as in these cases, to our detriment.
  21. Rest in Peace Brother. You may have lived as a recruit, but you died a firefighter.
  22. Rest in Peace Brother. Best wishes to his Brothers and Sisters at The Rock, and to his family and friends.
