JBE, if you're going to be at Put Lake, you might as well make the trip up the hill and see if anyone is at Ball Pond in New Fairfield to pull the rigs out for you. Only maybe a minute and a half up Fairfield Drive from Put Lake.

What scumbags, I hope the two occupants received a free tune-up courtesy of the WCPD... Great pinch by the ladies and gentlemen of Westchester County's Finest. Hope the injured Officer recovers soon.

DEFINITELY doing this... Great idea.

Got the Email this morning. This was a great event last year, I highly recommend it.

The ridiculous, unprecedented amount of money being thrown around in the past month or two is insane. As a part of one of the younger generations, I can't imagine how so many people my age are supporting this. Its like nobody realizes that one day this stuff needs to be paid for. This makes my fire districts $20 million underfunded pension fund look like peanuts. You know the old DC saying, "a few billion here, a few billion there, sooner or later you start talking about real money!"

If the incident was that large, you wouldn't be able to get the DES volunteer team out either, everyone would be manning their home departments... So paid or vollie, you'd all basically be more less on your own. Discussions like this make me glad we don't have county government in CT. We have the regional HAZMAT teams set up by DEMHS, but they consist of both career and volunteer staff that are held, to my knowledge, to distinct, formalized training standards through CFA (CT Fire Academy) You either are a rescue tech or you aren't. The only problem comes with the HAZMAT Tech (EPA vs. NFPA) but they are still trained/certified. Sounds to me like NY needs to really work on a standardized training and certification process, so that a volunteer firefighter and a career firefighter can honestly be compared in terms of certification. As my boating instructor once said "You could have been sailing for 20 years, but that doesn't mean you have been doing it right." Experience doesn't always mean you do it the right way... Just something I think we should all consider in this discussion.

Perfect example of why to TAKE YOUR TIME gearing up for a cold/ice water rescue call. The victim isn't dead until they are WARM and dead, as any good medic will tell you... The 10 seconds it takes to zip up your suit is NOTHING, people can survive exposure to cold water, even underwater, for unbelievable amounts of time. I've been told that there were times up to an hour in several Ice/Cold Water rescue classes I've taken. SLOW DOWN and put your suit on properly, meaning zip it ALL the way up, and "burp" the suit so that your buoyancy isn't all screwy.

You'd think Dept. of Energy or some equally sketchy government agency would be all over this... the chances of finding rare elements, or even new ones, are probably pretty good in a space rock.

http://www.newstimes.com/latestnews/ci_11865963 Hey guys, we're almost famous now! Danbury News-times is using EMTBravo to determine what departments responded.

Wow, thats odd. Can us guys from way outta Westchester get alittle more background on this case?

Date: 3/6/09 Time: Approx 0645 Location: 300 Boston Post Road, West Haven, CT (University of New Haven, Dodd's Hall/Henry C. Lee Forensics Lab) Frequency: 453.800 Units Operating: Allingtown Car 4, Car 5, Car 6, Engine 2, Rescue 1, Tower 1, West Haven Center Rescue 27, Engine 24 (Standby at AFD), West Haven Car 20, West Shore Car 30, DEP HAZMAT, UNH Police Department Weather Conditions: Normal Description Of Incident: Unknown chemical reaction in a forensics laboratory. Reporters: Writer: SageVigiles Initial assignment was a Box (R1, TL-1, E2) for unknown odor and possible spill. Engine 2 Portable arrived as command. DEP Spill Response Team made entry, with a backup team from Allingtown Fire-Rescue to locate source. Chemicals mixed for waste that were thought to be compatible by whomever mixed them weren't... Reaction occurred, rupturing the container and damaging 2 other containers. Chemicals leaked onto the floor, etching the floor (I can already sense tuition going up for this.) All units went 63 (in service) at approximately 1030 after entry team was clear and PAR was completed, Rescue 1 is 63 at the scene until callback crew arrives. Command handed over to DEP. Private contractor supervised by DEP will be cleaning up, Allingtown hiring back 1 Captain and 3 Firefighters for standby with Engine 8. Private contractor mitigated the problem and cleared the scene around 3PM, as did FD standby crew and DEP.

Hey, congrats there Izzy!

Wow, great shot of six-one...
-
Yeah, I'll stick with my Diesel bus, thank you very much.

Whats the new rescue going to look like? I'm gonna miss that Patterson Mack, I loved that rig.
-
You'll also notice alot of the comments on Officer.com agree with the position that this was an irresponsible move. I'm all for creative tactics by law enforcement, but do we really want this kind of tactic repeated? How far will it go before criminals suspect everyone in a firetruck/ambulance or FD/EMS uniform of being law enforcement. Aren't these jobs dangerous enough? We're going down a bad path here. I respect the difficulty in tactical entry, but there has to be a line, and I believe that here it has been crossed.

Getting rid of the Mack Rescue?!?!? NOOO! I love that truck... Anyway, yeah, that driver is pretty much fired.
-
Alittle photoshopping there, just maybe... ridiculous.

Rest in Peace bro, what a shame...

Nice pics GPD, Fire Science Club at UNH does one of these every year for Alcohol Awareness week as well... great way to spread the message. Only we have a club member as the "DUI suspect" who gets arrested by Campus/West Haven PD... I always thought that was a nice touch. If you guys ever need anything to help set one of these up, let me know, I'm sure the club would be happy to assist you guys.

Stay safe Brother, keep your head down and your rifle up. Get some for us.

Allingtown in West Haven has vollies staffing the Volunteer station and supplementing the career one with additional guys. Other than that, nothing special. Sound Shore is supposed to get slammed, so we'll see.
-
Wow, that NRFD rig looks great. Must be packed with equipment with all those diamond plate boxes bolted to the truck.
-
Weasel, I'd have to basically agree with what you're saying. Definitely a smash and grab job, not something I'd want to be committing or digging into for the long haul. Get the people out and do what you can to the fire in the process, otherwise... eh, I'm not sure if I wanna risk my crew in what essentially is a giant charcoal grill.
