I thought they were doing a continuous filing period?

It was 4 alarms, according to CTFire-EMS.com and WTNH.

Great to see the guys of Oakland FD are looking out for their brothers in blue.

Meteorite May Have Struck in Westchester County Danbury News-Times Can anyone confirm this? Did any FDs/HAZMAT teams have to respond? I'd imagine there could be some nasty radioactive or chemical hazards coming from something that was in space...

Date: 3/24/09 Time: Approx. 1130 Location: Weston (Originated from off Tannery South Rd) Frequency: ITAC4, multiple others Units Operating: Weston FD, Easton FD, Trumbull FD, Redding FD, Georgetown FD, Ridgefield FD, State Police FM, State Police Trooper 1, multiple others, Fairfield County Fire Coordinator's Office (DEMHS) Weather Conditions: Windy, Red Flag Warning in much of region Description Of Incident: Report of a structure fire, now a large (60+ acre brush fire) Reporters: Writer: SageVigiles Multiple agencies working this job, probably more than I listed. Reported as a 60 acre brush fire with at least 2 structures involved. ICALL/ITAC system activated through Dept. of Public Safety to manage the various departments. Details are still sketchy, but word is that an arrest has already been made for reckless burning at a construction site, which seems to have caused the fire. Alot of lower Fairfield County is out of place right now, relocating to cover the stations that are out. Wind Fueling Weston Brush Fire

I might be there, his crash was right next to UNH, right?

Marshal Law? What are they, nuts? I can think of few situations that would warrant that kind of action.

Damn it, this is absolutely horrible. Godspeed Brothers.

Indeed, final score: Train: 1 Pickup: 0

Rest in Peace Brothers... What a horrible shame. I am glad they perforated the SOB that did this. I hope the other Motorcycle Officer who is in grave condition recovers.

As opposed to CBS/NBC/etc who reported so fairly during the Bush administration? All news is biased, Fox is just unpopular because its biased to the Conservative side, and its considered taboo to be Republican now.

What does the LSU do?

Chris, Great points you brought up. CT Air National Guard does have CH-47s and other aircraft that would allow them to transport this equipment. As I understand it, the team also has trucks, or has contracted companies with trucks to transport the PODS when the incident is in-state. I believe the airlift option is really only intended for out-of-state deployments. Again, someone who works with CT TF-1 would have to confirm. TF-1 will also send K9 units (usually State Police) to conduct searches during a collapse if a local department requires it. http://www.ct.gov/demhs/cwp/view.asp?a=1916&q=288260

On the issue of air support. From what I've heard through people in the CT Dept. of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is that the CT TF-1 keeps some of their equipment in roll-off PODS similar to the FDNY pod units or roll-off dumpsters. Apparently the idea is that in the event of a large disaster outside of CT, the Task Force can be loaded up by CT Air National Guard's assets and transported anywhere in the country/world/galaxy/etc. I think that was a very smart move by the state. Sure, trucks are nice, but the lag time in responding to an incident nationwide is significantly increased. Even IF CTANG had the resources to fit rescue trucks (I'd imagine you'd probably need C-141s or C-5s, though I'm not an Air Force Loadmaster) it would take up significantly more room and add unnecessary weight. This way, when your assets land, the roll offs can essentially be put on a large roll-off dumpster truck or similarly secured to bring to the incident site. I'm not sure on how big these containers are, but maybe a Chinook helo could transport them as well. Anybody here a member of CT TF-1 that can verify what I'm saying?

Also, what about West Point or Stewart ANG Base in Orange County? Do they have teams?
-
I'm not 100% certain that Danbury is qualified for collapse rescue, I know they just got Squad 1 which has some equipment on it for technical rescue, but I don't know the exact loadout. Nor do I know whether or not they train for collapse. CT USAR TF-1 is used on the rare occasion that somewhere in CT has a building collapse, but the majority of their resources are based out of Brainard Airport in Hartford (Not to be confused with Bradley Airport in Windsor Locks.) Thats another team made up of both paid and volunteer members. However, for HAZMAT, I'd definitely call them, the DEMHS Region 5 Team (Torrington, Danbury, Waterbury) has a lot of equipment and a lot of personnel (Paid and Vollie.) Maybe DFD807 or someone else from Danbury can fill us in on their collapse capabilities, because I honestly have no idea.

I wouldn't say psychopath, theres a lot of baggage that comes with that word, but I get your point. Good spot by the guys on the scene. This could be another reason to have accurate accountability, so you know who and how many belong there...

ChiefMcFuz, I was about to say the same thing about priority responses to burglar alarms. Tactically, its just not a great idea. I'd also tend to agree to the comment about AFAs. First due goes Priority 1, everyone else slow it down unless there is something that would lead dispatch or an officer en route to believe there is a chance of active fire. To complicate things, what does everyone think about CO alarms?

Next time you're in the area give a shout, New Fairfield has plenty of rigs for you to shoot.
-
File that one under the freak accident category...
-
GREAT idea. I think this should definitely be implemented.

Interesting...

Is that a maltese cross on the door or what?

WMC for an eval? With St. Lukes right there and Vassar just up the river? What happened?

Yeah, nice AR above the Officer. Better than having to run to the trunk in a firefight.
