-
Izzy, technically the Fish and Game Officers (now EnCon) have been around longer than CSP, ask any Encon cop and they will tell you. Haha.

Haha, "Funny how, like I'm a clown, like I amuse you?" Great Goodfellas reference. So do we have any idea whose bird this was?

Date: 5/9/09 Time: 0800 to 1750 Hours Location: CT State Police Academy, Meriden, CT Hosted by: Northeast Regional Law Enforcement Explorer Association With assistance of: Connecticut State Police This program was established in 1992 to promote training and competition between explorers. Even though this is competition we strive first for training and for the youth to have a positive fun experience. Right now we average 40 police departments with as many as 450 people in attendance. We have both "random" events and "Individual" events. The difference is the random evens are randomly selected on the schedule for you to participate in your explorers will not have a choice just like being dispatched. The Individual events are mainly individual skill type events and you decide who participates in those events. Due to scheduling concerns explorers are only able to be in 3 separate events. Random Events Building Search Crime Scene Crisis Intervention Domestic Disturbance DUI Enforcement Felony Stop First Aid High Stress Situations Motor Vehicle Stop Reported Assault Shots Fired Suspicious Persons Unknown Response Individual Events Firearms Judgmental Driving Leadership Reaction Mountain Bike Obstacle Course Search & Control Optional Event Drill and Ceremony (Honor Guard) Always a great event with a HUGE turnout, very competitive. Some of the Posts that attend include: Connecticut: Danbury New Britain Hartford State Police (Several Troops) Greenwich Meriden East Lyme Old Lyme Fairfield Trumbull Southington Suffield New York: Greenburgh Westchester County (Maybe?) Suffolk County (5th Precinct and 6th Precinct) Putnam County Sheriff Guilderland Colonie There are ALOT more from NY and CT and several from MA, RI, NH and some midwestern states that come here once in awhile. I'll try to get pictures up if I have any time between competitions to take them.

Thanks brother. 3rd place in reported assault for me. I did OK shooting, but my rookie outdid me. Only his 2nd time shooting, ever. Perfect score. Kid was on fire. He took first, obviously. My post did alright this year. There were a lot of posts from out of state that REALLY brought their "A" Game. It was a good time, but we are going to suggest that the event be extended to 2 days so that Explorers get a chance to compete in more scenarios. It was also announced officially that October 24th will be the Connecticut Explorer Tactical Challenge, hosted by NERLEEA and the CT State Police Emergency Services Unit - SWAT Team. Pics will be up when I get back to my laptop in my apartment. Some good ones of me with the Rangemaster's lefty M4.

So much for Joe Biden's speech at CFSI about how the Obama administration will do whatever is necessary to support firefighters, eh?

100K per year is alot. In reality he probably doesn't make that much. Resident Troopers make the same as a regular Trooper, based on rank of course. RSTs get something like $100 extra a month for "hazard pay" for being on a special unit, just as K9, Aviation, SWAT, etc makes. He's probably a Trooper First Class, MAYBE a Trooper Sergeant. The town pays only 70% of his costs, the rest is covered by the state. If that Trooper can't work a certain shift, it will go in as an OT job to be filled with regular troopers from Troop L or whoever else can fill in. It is important to mention he is not the ONLY State Police unit assigned to that area. Kent, like every other town, is also covered by a Patrol Sector (probably shared with a few other small towns up there) so there's another Trooper in the region for backup if its really needed. My town, New Fairfield CT, uses a combination of Resident State Troopers and town "constables", who are real certified Police Officers, but are not in command. There is a Trooper Sergeant, probably 5 or 6 regular Residents that work the town and 5 or 6 town cops as well. You could have a shift with 2 town cops, 1 townie and 1 Trooper, or 2 Troopers. The Tpr. Sgt. works 9-5 on weekdays. Its an OK program, but the benefit is the cost to the town. There have been several attempts to get an independent department in New Fairfield, but A. it costs more money and B. people were tricked into believing that they wouldn't get specialty services (Major Crime Squad, which is CSP's CSI, SWAT, K9, Dive Team etc) because of that. That isn't true though, CSP's specialized divisions are available to ANY department in the state. There are pros and cons to the system.

Does AMR have a station out there? Or would ASM (Ambulance Service of Manchester) be more likely to pick that up?

I'm looking at taking the 40 Hour HAZMAT Tech (EPA) Class with the Connecticut Eastern Regional Response Integrated Team (CERRIT.) I'm wondering what the difference is between the EPA class and the NFPA class, if any exists. What limitations does the EPA Class have, if any? Just wondering if it will be worth the drive literally across the state.
-
Izzy, I'm already filling out the application for the class, I talked via email to A.C. Manfredi, I was just wondering if there were any operational limitations to EPA Techs that NFPA Techs don't have.
-
They were probably all the way down in Hyde Park because Nichols Fire Apparatus in North Haven or Wallingford or wherever closed a few weeks ago.
-
GPD, I can't believe its your last Station's Day. Come find me at some point during the day. Do you know what you are competing in yet? I'm on Random Team 1, Random Team 2, Firearms, and I'm an alternate for Honor Guard.
-
Sorry, but only registered members of a law enforcement Explorer post can attend and only observers authorized by a participating Post or the State Police may show up. CSP Academy is a closed campus.

Widening a road will cause traffic problems? I dunno Chris. Sounds like the old "NIMBY" routine. People are all for transportation improvements, as long is it isn't where it will effect their land values.

Wow, and I thought the Kenworth cabs were obnoxiously large. Great looking truck, but its way too big of a cab to use for a firetruck, you give up so much space with that hood.
-
Great analogy. I'll be passing that on to some friends.
-
Plain and simple? They are cheap. I believe Ford makes them out of the factory with the B&W paint job. Really appealing to Commissioners and Chiefs alike, as its cheap as hell.
-
That was quick, they just graduated a class last Wednesday. Good luck to anyone that applies, their academy is TOUGH.

I've received word that West Haven, CT Police Officer Andy Sanchez, who was assigned to the Street Crimes Unit until his diagnosis with cancer, passed away today as a result of his disease. Below is a link to one of the NH Register stories on his illness and his support in the community.

Yeah, we're still ahead of things. WTNH, the local TV news station just posted it on their website within the past 2 hours. Slow going it seems.
-
According to News Channel 8, the case has been presented to the Supreme Court, no word on when the Court will rule.

WTNH News Channel 8's website has video of the events going on outside the courtroom. Nothing going on yet, but they are setup. www.wtnh.com
