Alot of people are saying "why was it necessary to tase her, she was 72." The guy who shot up the Halocaust museum today was 88. Age is NO judge of potential harm.

I took Surface Water Rescue Operational with the State, another swiftwater class. Great training, alot of fun and very demanding.

Outstanding, I'm happy to know the Officers will keep their jobs.

Rest in Peace Chief.

I'll be interested. I'm so addicted to that game.

No, I don't think they only come from DC. FBI HRT (Hostage Rescue Team) is the one based out of Quantico/DC area. Most large field offices, like NYC, have their own SWAT teams. The nearest decent sized FBI offices to Poughkeepsie are NYC or maybe Albany.

Brookfield, CT's Candlewood Fire/Rescue has a similar style boat with a deck gun and pump. The bow folds down so an ATV or other equipment can be brought onboard. Sikorski Aircraft FD also has one, probably twice the size. Impressive boats.

The PoJo photos show an FBI SWAT Special Agent on scene, must be something strange for the Federales to come all the way to Poughkeepsie

Get well soon Brother. I wish you the best for a speedy and, more importantly, full recovery so you'll be back on the job soon!

Any more info? Also, a quote from that article Brother and son? Really?

Joe DA BUFF, Odd that you got a Trooper after dialing 911, maybe the dispatchers were busy and one of the desk guys picked up the phone. Izzy would know. I know in my town (we only have 1 dispatcher on each shift) if the dispatcher needs to use the crapper, one of the town cops or Troopers has to man the panel for him/her.

The Newsweek article talks about that. Al Queda is effective, Al Queda wanna-bes, not so much.

I don't know why, but that last line about "one of you is likely to be an informant" gave me a good chuckle.

Thanks to a bunch of my buddies from high school serving in the Navy and Army, and thanks to everyone else who serves us. Lets not forget our fallen Fire, Police and EMS brothers either.

Why wouldn't the unions be on board for it? What do they stand to lose by consolidation? Wouldn't it open to the door to more overtime? Maybe more hires to bring everyone up to the same staffing levels (I don't know what the staffing levels are down there, so maybe not.) Coming from the West Haven perspective, consolidation is a great idea, it would bring alot of benefits, but without the proper logistical and financial planning, it will never happen. Example, if one of the 3 departments (Dept A) has a larger pension deficit than another (Dept , why would the taxpayers from district B support consolidation? Its more money THEY will have to pay. There are positives and negatives to it, but the media/taxpayers generally don't look at all that. I'm happy I live in a town where there AREN'T fire commissioners/fire taxes (New Fairfield) after seeing what the downsides of it are.

Thanks. Stinger missiles? Wow, thats crazy. They probably got them in Afghan, but how the hell did they get them back into the US? Glad the alphabet agencies caught these guys. You could always get close to Stewart, when I was really young living in NY we'd go watch the planes take off and land from the fence next to the runway. But you could be as far away as Milton and still get a good glimpse of a low-flying C5, probably good enough to throw a SAM into it anyway.
-
Do the three districts share a union? In West Haven they do, which might make it easier to consolidate.
-
Izzy, some idiots in high up positions of some CT fire dpeartments believe you can't drive a firetruck without a CDL to drills/non-emergency things even if you have your Q. I'm assuming its people reading things that apply to NY and assuming that it applies to CT as well. To all you NYers, you guys do NOT have a monopoly on ridiculous people in positions of power... if that makes you feel any better, haha.

Any link to this news?

Haha, Izzy, don't even get me STARTED on the West Haven consolidation issue. That is a land-mine issue to discuss around town. But the charter revisions on the city's part are almost done, then the districts get to sit down and talk it out for a bit. Alot of financial/logistical stuff that would need to get worked out, the operations would probably not change much.

Wait, so what now, is Kent going to get a PD or are they just going to let the Troop's Patrol Sector car for the REGION respond to calls? Maybe a deal in the works with New Milford PD?

A Resident State Trooper (RST) is a State Trooper that is specially assigned to a specific municipality to act as that municipalities police agency. The phrase is a holdover from when RSTs had to be residents of that town, though they are no longer required to do so. They are usually experienced Troopers who transfer to the RST program. Resident Troopers have the same training, uniform and equipment as any other Trooper. Regular Troopers are assigned to Patrol Sectors (which can include towns and/or highways) but report to the Troop, not the town. Many of CT's smaller towns use the RST program as a cost-effective way to provide law enforcement for their residents. The state covers something like 30% of the cost of the RSTs. Unlike Kent, some towns have 24 hour RST protection or use a hybrid of State Police and town Police (New Fairfield is a perfect example.) Resident State Troopers do not really report to their respective Troops, they report to the First Selectman or Mayor or whatever town executive exists in that municipality. When a RST goes on duty, they do not have to go to Troop role call or anything like that, they are basically on their own program. Izzy can probably provide more info.

I remember YEARS ago when I was like 10 or so, the FedEx plane caught fire landing at Stewart. Fire Departments as far north as Milton got called in. I was too young to know if they were covering down or what, but I'd never seen so many rigs go by my house (I used to live on 9W in Marlboro)

Did this drill only include Orange County units, or did any Ulster units participate as well?
