  1. My best wishes to the injured Brothers, their families, and all of JCPD and PAPD in this stressful time. Great shoot by the POs involved. Score 2 for the good guys.
  2. I'm posting this from DC, where I've had the honor to attend the 2009 US Marshals National Law Enforcement Explorer Leadership Academy. This is a national program with a competitive acceptance system, only 30 explorers get into each of the 5 academies (US Marshals, FBI, DEA, Secret Service, Military Police) This week is full of seminars and demonstrations by various agencies and units. We've been exposed to a bunch of the units within the USMS already including JPATS (aka ConAir), Special Operations Group, the Capitol Region Fugitive Task Force, Deputy Attorney General Protection Detail, etc. Today we're going to see the US Secret Service Training Facility, the US Park Police, and the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial. When I get back to CT and my laptop, I'll have plenty of pictures of from the Capitol Area of various vehicles, buildings and equipment. Here's a short list of some of the stuff I've shot so far that you can look forward to: -FBI Police Tahoe -FBI Police Crown Vic -FBI Police Dodge Charger -Tomb of the Unknowns wreath laying by the US Marshals Explorer Academy -US Marshals Service Special Operations Group Equipment -US Marshals Service Explosives Detection K9s -Me getting tasered by the USMS SOG -A ton more I don't have time to list Today when I go to Secret Service, I'll be able to get some shots of retired Presidential limos as well as some armored Suburbans. Supposedly we are not allowed to photograph the inside for security reasons. I also plan on getting some shots of the Park Police's equipment, I'm not yet sure whats going to be there, but I believe an Aviation unit and a Mounted unit at the very least. I'll post again if I get time.
  3. Its my understanding that one of the Squad companies is also an ALS rig.
  4. It means that I'm not from Westchester, and I had no idea how the departments down that way run. I wasn't aware that White Plains had the effective manpower/resources, water supply and communications required to get ISO Class 1, I rarely hear anything about them. It wasn't meant as an insult. I just honestly had no idea. exmrvfc, the ISO rating doesn't really help the average homeowner with their insurance. Its really only effective for businesses. Milford, CT has ISO class 1, and as a result major companies (BIC, Subway, etc) all have either headquarters or major manufacturing operations there, because those companies will save so much money on their insurance as a result of the great fire protection.
  5. Wow. I'm impressed. I didn't know White Plains was so on the ball.
  6. Rest In Peace Brother. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the Brothers and Sisters at Mahopac Falls FD.
  7. Sounds like a great idea. I didn't realize that Frank Ricci was chair of the OSHA Committee. He's a busy man.
  8. I wish our dispatchers gave too much information. We usually need to ask for a cross street...
  9. I meant top-right, but you got what I mean. Thanks for the info.
  10. Yeah, the colors on that rig definitely catch the eye. I like it.
  11. Nice truck. Question, that logo they have, the emblem on the top left, is that the US Army Special Forces crest? It looks like it is, only without the lettering.
  12. It is with deep regret that I pass along the announcement that Danbury, CT Police Officer Robert DiNardo, Shield Number 413 passed away late last night as a result of a brief illness. Officer DiNardo served 29 years with the Danbury Police Department, 20 of which with the School Resource Officer program at Broadview Middle School and has received numerous awards and commendations from the Department and Community. P.O. DiNardo has been a mentor to thousands of teens in Danbury during his career and greatly enjoyed working with children. Though not an Advisor, he was a great supporter of the Danbury Police Explorers and often acted as referee for our annual basketball game against the New York Giants. Per the orders of the Deputy Chief of Police, the flag at Headquarters will be lowered from first light on Friday, June 26 until the day after his funeral. All department personnel are to wear a mourning band over their shield for 15 days. Service and funeral information are still pending. Rest in Peace Officer DiNardo, you will be missed -Explorer Major Alex Cardella, Shield Number 907 Danbury Police Explorers Post #33
  13. Update: On Tuesday during the funeral, the Connecticut State Police will be called in to handle the city's calls while the Department buries its Brother Officer. The Danbury Police Explorers will provide a "rolling roadblock" with our Bike Patrol during the procession and the remainder of the Post will be assigned to administrative duties within Headquarters or participating in the ceremony.
  14. Thanks Doc, a lot of the cops and many of the Explorers are shaken up about this. He touched many of their lives through his work.
  15. Calling hours for friends and family will be held on Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Greens Funeral Home, which is located at 57 Main St. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Peters Church located at 104 Main St. with an interment to follow at St. Peters Cemetery. Anyone seeking to send cards or donations to the DiNardo family can do so in care of the city's police department at 375 Main St., Danbury CT, 06810.
  16. Considering what happened in Minnesota, I don't think cities are going to spare any expense for bridge inspection anymore, though in the past its been an often overlooked line item.
  17. I believe one or two pieces from New Fairfield will be on display.
  18. Alot of PD's do EMS. Orange, CT Police are all EMTs and are the only EMS units in town, other than the paid AMR medic. They don't transport, but they are first responders, as the fire department has no desire, manpower, or funding to run EMS.
  19. Wait, this guy plays for UNH? We have a 42 year old on our football team? Odd.
  20. Good points, like I said, I was just asking. Another question about FD recoupment of lost supplies, funds. Don't the OSHA SARA/Superfund/etc. laws require the spiller to reimburse the municipality?
  21. Their old truck is the Mack Aerialscope, right? I remember that thing when I was like 8 years old in the 100 Year FD Anniversary parade in Marlboro.
  22. Glad to hear your sister is alright Seth. That security officer is a true hero.
  23. Just to play devil's advocate, isn't that what taxes are for?
