Believed at this time to be an attack on behalf of the Chechen separatists, possibly a group known as the "Black Widows" NY MTA has announced "heightened security presence" as a result of this attack.
  3. The CT Fire email list sent out the following announcement: I just joined Wallingford about a month ago, didn't get a chance to meet Fire Marshal Micalizzi. I'll let you guys know when I get more information on the arrangements.
  4. THAT, is cool. The inspiration for the invention is terrible, but its good to know that the Officer's death brought about something that will hopefully save other Officers in the future. http://rapidentrysolutions.com/product.cfm
  5. Stupid, stupid stupid. In other news, Fairfield Police is hiring.
  6. That's a pretty big inference being made there. I'm going to hope that is a strange coincidence and let the investigators figure out what is going on, that is, if they haven't laid them all off.
  7. Sure, it reduces the deficit if you include the double-counting of Social Security and Medicare money done by the people who put the bill together. They're taking money out of one, putting it into another, and then counting both transactions. The CBO isn't allowed to look at those sorts of things though, they are only allowed to run the numbers as they are presented. So its another political sham. Also, about "Bush" hurting all the unions, I have one word: NAFTA. And who, might I ask, was president when that got signed? Right, Clinton.
  8. For New Fairfield, its 10 BLS calls where the "rookie" runs the call and does the report themselves (under the supervision of the senior EMT, obviously.) After that EMS officers make a determination as to whether or not the EMT is ready. Pretty good system but it takes a long time since a majority of the calls are ALS. But probably the best way to run it in a volunteer department where you can't run organized shifts with an assigned FTO
  9. Outstanding. Good to see DEA and the locals cracking down.
  10. "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." -Thomas Jefferson. "Our liberty is protected by four boxes... the ballot box, the jury box, the soap box, and the cartridge box." -Anonymous I only hope we'll have to use the first three to change this crap, and not the last one.
  11. "The first was the Corvette, which could NEVER, EVER be confused with the 2005 Seagrave..." Great My Cousin Vinny reference up there JBE, as as usual, GREAT shots.
  12. Rest in Peace Officer Frey. I'm glad to know this Officer's memory is not forgotten.
  13. Found this on CNN, rarely do we get an opportunity to hear anything about firefighters in countries as closed off as the Russian Federation. May the Colonel Rest in Peace.
  14. Rest in Peace Officer.
  15. Everyone is so caught up on the idea of extrication. I highly doubt this truck is going to be carrying nothing but rescue equipment. ESU is not just a technical rescue team. Yes, that's an aspect of it, but primarily they are a tactical response team, and the amount of equipment needed for any decent sized tactical operation is incredible: Weapons Ammo Armor/Helmets Shields Non-Lethal systems Surveillance systems "Throw Phones" Communications gear Forcible Entry equipment Medical gear Crime Scene Gear Command and Control area HAZMAT gear (Yes, there IS a reason for PD to do HAZMAT, welcome to the 21st century boys and girls) Tactical Operators carry a LOT of equipment on their backs, I've you've ever worn it before you know what I'm talking about. All that stuff has to go somewhere. Only so much is going to fit into one of those Odyssey ESU wagons that YPD ESU cruises around in When "the big one" hits, having a war wagon with enough gear to sustain your team is critical. Let me ask you this, how do you feel when at a fire commissioner's meeting the taxpayers challenge why you need a $500,000 rescue truck or $1 million tower ladder to conduct their operations. I'll bet you get defensive because you don't like people who don't DO your job telling you how THEY think you should do it. So why would you do that to our Brothers in law enforcement? Besides, we don't even KNOW for sure what is on the truck, how about waiting to find out before filing a grievance on behalf of a fire department you don't even belong to. Best of luck to YPD ESU on their new rig.
  16. Haha, its a dispatch system for activating tones, etc. Up until very recently I think, New Fairfield had one... haha.
  17. Happy Birthday!
  18. Mofire, your link is definitely wrong. Might wanna check that.
  19. This competition was held at the Westchester County Police Academy in Valhalla last Sunday, October 11th. Greenburgh PD was the host agency, with alot of assistance from the Greenburgh CERT Team, the Northeast Regional Law Enforcement Education Association (NERLEEA), Westchester County Community College and the Westchester County Police. Competitions were in the following areas: Building Search Crime Scene Crisis Intervention Domestic Disturbance Driving Simulator DUI Enforcement Felony Stop First Aid MV Stop Reported Assault Shoot/Don’t Shoot (FATS) Shots Fired Suspicious Persons Unknown Response Career Development Leadership Reaction Obstacle Course Search & Control Cruiser Push The following agencies Explorers were represented (the ones I can recall:) Greenburgh Police Explorers Tuckahoe Police Explorers Putnam County Sheriff's Office Cadets Danbury, CT Police Explorers Northeast Regional Law Enforcement Education Association (NERLEEA) Competition Travel Team (CT State Police Trp K, New Britain PD, Vernon PD) Westchester County Police Explorers Mt. Pleasant Police Explorers and several other agencies I cannot remember for the life of me. Danbury did well, taking 3rd Place overall, which was pretty good for a team that was about half new people with no competition experience and still new in their training. Here are some shots from the day's events: Danbury Explorer Sergeant Barnier searching a suspect in the unknown response scenario: Danbury Explorer Ferriera competing in the obstacle course, where she took First Place for females: Danbury's team in the Leadership Reaction course Members of the NERLEEA Travel Team (various agencies in CT/MA) competing in the Traffic Stop: "Unit 91, that plate comes back to a Spurberry Police vehicle" "IT DOES? OH MY GOD!" NERLEEA Lieutenant Burch (Training Unit) talking to "dispatch" during his traffic stop scenario. Danbury's Team beginning the "Cruiser Push" competition:
  20. Congratulations Millwood!
  21. ERS is techically a separate agency, but D/C Schwartz runs it, as well as the Emergency Operations Center, currently. Maybe he stepped down from the ERS position, or was pushed out due to some typical West Haven political mess.
  22. Strange, Deputy Chief Schwartz of West Haven Center District was running the office, I wonder why he isn't anymore.
  23. True point, as with everything in the HAZMAT world, its a risk/benefit analysis. The Blauer suits look, to me anyway, like they are intended for tactical operators, but I wasn't sure. Would be good for a quick-response team for a dignitary protection role when you're evac'ing ASAP when the attack occurs, but definitely not continuous operations. I do, however, like the M.O.L.L.E. hookups on the suit, I'd imagine wearing a tac-vest over that might cause some suit integrity issues, as well as weight. Maybe JCESU will let us know if his department uses these, or any of the other SWAT cops/tactical medics on here.
  24. Antique, I have no idea what kind of suit he's talking about, but from what he describes it, it SOUNDS like the facepiece is PART of the suit, eliminating the need for full encapsulation. Probably MUCH better for visibility. Blauer (uniform company out of Boston) makes suits that have a feature like that, I sell Blauer stuff at work but dealers aren't allowed to sell this, its factory direct for security/integrity reasons I guess. I honestly have never seen one, though I'd like to play with one in a training atmosphere to see what the difference is. Links below, anyone ever worked with these things? (NOTE: I do NOT make commission, and I am NOT trying to advertise or sell these things, truthfully I don't care if any of them ever get sold, this is simply for informational purposes) Blauer Multi-Threat Suit Blauer MIRT Suit Blauer XRT Suit
  25. Haha, Acetelyne torches and grappling hooks, I love it. Now the REAL question is, does any such list STILL exist today?
