Great to hear. The biggest right we have is the right to spend money and choose where we do business. That is the most power the individual citizen holds.

So change the patch if the membership is against it. Make a motion at the meeting to change the department patch, and bid out for new patches. You can get 200 patches for probably less than 3 dollars a patch.

Does 343 include the Fire Marshal (Ron Bucca) that was killed? Its also tragic that people tend to ignore the other law enforcement (other than NYPD and PAPD) who were killed that day too. The following law enforcement agencies lost LEOs in the attacks: NY State Office of Court Administration lost a Captain and 2 Senior Officers NY State Office of Tax Enforcement lost an Assistant Commissioner, a Bureau Chief and 3 Investigators FBI lost a Special Agent US Dept. of Interior lost a Refuge Manager US Secret Service lost a Master Special Officer

RIP Officer Matlosz. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and Brother and Sister Officers. May justice be swift and unrelenting...

Haha, I just had visions of "A Few Good Men." "Could you show me where in the regs it describes where the mess hall is?"

No, "Expedite" is just to make the person on the scene making the radio call feel better. I don't drive with reckless abandon when someone says "expedite." Though I have SAID expedite before when at a pretty bad scene several years ago. On another note, check your PMs.

Speaking of nutjobs... the Westboro "baptist church" is another group of scum we could surely do without. Those are the ones who protest servicemen and women funerals because of some anti-gay message or something, right? I still struggle to comprehend the connection between the two, but whatever, understanding crazy people makes my head hurt. Duck, I wasn't aware of that, thanks for the info. Maybe he was just totally batcrap crazy and not an ideologue.

Absolutely, I agree that this is a criminal issue. I'm a pretty hardline conservative, but I would NEVER want something like this happening to anyone. I too am praying for those who were lost and those still fighting to stay alive. I really hope this scumbag gets the needle for what he did, these actions are completely unjustifiable, whatever the political motivations may be. The Founders set up this government so that everyone had an opportunity to bring about change WITHOUT the need for bloodshed, because at the time people had seen the cost of those methods, and were not willing to pay it again. I guess some people just don't appreciate that or understand that, but that, above all else, is the most important part of the Constitution. However, these things don't happen in a vacuum, this IS a political incident. One Federal Judge was assassinated and a member of Congress was almost assassinated. But what we all see is that this ISN'T how to get things changed in government. This was the act of one whacko who wanted to take his extremist views into his own hands. Far be it from me to agree with bvfdjc on anything, but he's right, this WILL set back the conservative movement in America. Regardless of the fact that none of us true conservatives want to be associated with this scumbag and that we all condemn these types of actions, this was still a Democrat shot by a conservative, and unfortunately that's ALL that most people are going to hear. The fact that he's a fringe extremist I fear will be lost in the media and political jockeying to come, simply because its the story certain people want to hear.

Does NY have Felony Murder on the books? Is that being applied in this case?
-
True, but if drivers obeyed signs we wouldn't have very many accidents to begin with... haha. I think the best public education is for every one of us to tell our friends and families about the law, and for the Troopers to enforce it vigorously.
-
I know when CT first passed this law, it seemed to me (judging by the multiple stopped MVs I saw) that they did a little "phase-in" where one Trooper would pull over an MV for a traffic violation, and another Trooper would look out for people not moving over, then stop that driver. I'd imagine if they stuck with it they could probably get a chain from one end of the state to the other. Word of warning though, this law will NOT protect you from being hit on the road. CT had at least 2 or 3 Troopers struck last year operating at the side of the road, one of which was killed in the Line of Duty. This is just another tool in the box to help spread the message to those a bit too thick-headed to understand common courtesy, and a way for LEOs to cite those inconsiderate drivers who get close to (or God forbid, hit) our Brothers and Sisters working on the roadside. Please remember your blocking patterns, traffic vests, signage and all that other traffic stuff we do to help PREVENT anyone from being hit in the first place.

Agreed, the rule sometimes seems silly because a lot of these rigs could have thousands of good miles left in them, but the Overloads of the NFPA dictate that no frontline piece can be more than 20 years old...

Connecticut State EOC in Hartford is open.

News is reporting that I84 on the Putnam/Dutchess line is CLOSED. In addition, it is my understanding that MTA and LIRR are also closed.

In Connecticut you can't even TAKE the Confined Space Technician class without already taking EMR or EMT AND taking the Rescue Technician class, unless they have something else worked out that I'm unaware of. And if they do, I've never seen a class advertised.

Why would Volunteer Fire departments NOT receive workers comp? They are doing a service for the town, if they are injured in the course of their duties and are not able to go to their regular job, isn't it the town's responsibility to pay????
-
Congratulations Chief! Are you now the Fire Chief, an Assistant? Deputy? Just curious. Best of luck on your new position, and as always stay safe.

Chief, I did a little research. Wallingford has a couple of newer Spartans that they have some problems with, but they are mostly related to the on-board computer system that is used to control everything by touch screen. I'll get some pictures and a better description of the system and its problems for you and drop them off at the station.

Very glad to see the Officer will be okay, WAY too many cops getting killed lately. Just over a year since the Lakewood 4 shootings and 29 years after PO Faulkner was murdered in Phily.

You hit the nail on the head. NFPA 1500 CLEARLY states that Rehab MUST be set up at working fires and special ops incidents.

Not too shabby, but I'd rather buy one of those retired missile bases out in the midwest. A few hundred thousand square feet and the world's biggest sunroof? Imagine the parties...
