OUTSTANDING point. Number of apparatus isn't the issue here. Realistically how many engines are actually going to be pumping at that job, how many aerials will be flying? Not as many as are on scene. We can't starting saying we need "X number of engines" until we determine how many QUALIFIED personnel have to be on those engines. I could get you 10 engines with a driver, 1 interior FF and a junior to the fire in 10 minutes, but what good would that do you? None. Here's where NIMS comes in people. Resource Typing. The county needs to identify what qualifies as an engine company, truck company, etc. I know this next sentence is going to sound CRAZY, but maybe we could even use the handy-dandy resource typing guides that FEMA put out? FEMA - Typed Resource Definitions - Fire & HAZMAT FEMA - Typed Resource Definitions - Emergency Medical Services FEMA - Typed Resource Definitions - Law Enforcement & Security Isn't this what all our local/regional/county/state emergency management officals should be doing anyway? Why aren't we using it?????

Wow... Unbelievable. Best of luck to the YFD and YPD Brothers and Sisters. Stay Strong and stick together!

Rest in Peace Lieutenant Sanford. Thank you for your service. My thoughts and prayers are with LT Sanford's family and friends as well as his Brothers and Sisters with the Redding and Bethel FDs. Godspeed Sir.

Not really, the Mayor responds to most structure fires in Danbury. He's pretty good about making sure the FD and the homeowners have everything they need. Strangely enough, he was at a fire a few years back, responded in his city vehicle. The car caught fire in a driveway down the street from the house fire. Totally unrelated to the fire.

Smart idea. We have county/regional HAZMAT, Tech Rescue, Fire Investigation and Field Communications Units, why not a set of equipment for these types of incidents???
-
I just checked the old incident thread from the CT Fire website on the Kleen Energy Explosion. Lifestar 1 and 2 were on the ground for the incident. Atlantic Air 1 was used for a call in Derby for a Pediatric trauma to go to CT Children's Medical Center.

Thanks. Good luck to the guys out there on the Island. Stay safe!

Sorry, I'm not an EMT. I have no idea what an SCT or CCT unit is.

I know Atlantic sent a bird to CT for a medical during the Kleen Energy power plant explosion. Both of Lifestar's birds were tied up.

There are grants out there for firefighter health and safety. I believe you can apply for them under SAFER and/or AFG.
-
Wow, glad to see the guys of ESU are okay after this. Could have turned out much worse.
-
Seth, as I understand it you can't buy apparatus with SAFER Grant money, so its a moot point. I believe the only "equipment" you can buy with SAFER is PPE for new firefighters or other things of that nature.

East Wallingford Vol. FD, Allingtown Vol. FD, and University of New Haven Fire Science patches will be on the way this week.

I'll send this on via Facebook and some of the other forums.

I'm doing some research and I want to get more familiar with NYC Local Law 5 and 26. For some reason I'm having trouble finding up-to-date copies on the internet. Anyone know of a place I can find current electronic copies of these two laws? Thanks in advance.

I've had female Officers before, and my opinion on them is the same about male Officers. Some truely do it for the right reason and care about their professional development so that they can help their fellow firefighters and some do it for a fancy set of bugles and to further their own career. Just like any other group of people. THAT'S equality.

Thanks! That's the kind of thing I'm wondering. It also crossed my mind that this may be sort of an Ex-Chief/Deputy Chief designation for those who have left the position.
-
More or less, yes. I've actually ordered a duplicate of the badge for my collection.
-
Thanks! I figured it had to be 50's or 60's based on the time period they were Chiefs, but I had no definitive way of knowing. Anyone else?
