  1. I believe this is one of the "Stock" layouts from Ford, if I'm not mistaken. Most of their promo materials for these cars had the same lettering scheme.
  2. Wow, that's perfect. Thanks for the help, if anyone else has suggestions or advice I'd welcome it. We'll be having a few new members next fall as well, so I plan on doing an "Intro" presentation to our fire department and its running order, etc.
  3. I'm working on a project for my volunteer department. Currently we don't have an organized drill/training schedule and haven't had one for a LONG time. Now that I'm in an officer position I have the ability to change that, so for the past few months we've been doing a bunch of impromptu drills on PPE/SCBA, self-rescue techniques, ropes/knots, etc. to get something started. So far its been well received, but its time to take it to a more organized level. I was wondering if anyone out there had an schedule I could use as a sample, as well as any training materials they'd be willing to share. I'm not a certified Instructor yet, but I see no reason why we can't run some simple drills to keep everyone's skills sharp. One of the unique challenges I run into is that the majority of my active membership is made up of college students who are only in town between September and May. Its sort of a double edged sword because we can pick up tricks and tips from all over the country, but at the same time everyone has different SOPs and everyone has to be brought up to speed on how we do things. If anyone has a similar issue and would like to share how they work with that, I would appreciate any and all advice. Thanks in advance, one of the main reasons I use this site is to be able to share ideas and knowledge, which we have plenty of on Bravo.
  4. According to their website, 55 career personnel and a volunteer division as well http://ci.perthamboy.nj.us/the-history-of-the-perth-amboy-fire-department.html
  5. You also have to take into account that even though the test is written to a 6th grade level, a disproportionately high number of white males with college degrees take the test. Its not that the test is poorly designed or subconsciously racist, its that the people who take it are better educated than the demographic they designed the test for. So realisticly no matter what they do they aren't going to be able to "fix" that (only in America would this be something that an employer would want to fix) without some screwed up process that allows them to reach down on the list for minorities, which is what the Vulcans et. al want. THIS is why we need to get rid of desparate impact.
  6. Is it true that the savings (or increase) to insurance premiums as a result of ISO almost negligible for a single family residential home? I had heard that somewhere but don't know the numbers myself to be able to agree or disagree. Milford, CT had an ISO Class 1 rating and many corporate headquarters (Shick, Bic, Subway, etc) were or are located there as a result. I think they had an issue recently that caused it to drop down to a 2, but I believe they're prepping for a re-evaluation because they fixed whatever was wrong.
  7. There's nothing reverse about it. Its just racism. Sorry, pet peeve.
  8. Not if it goes to the Supreme Court and they throw it out. That could be a big win for merit-based hiring and promotions. Ricci v. DeStefano was the first step, but it wasn't enough.
  9. File this next to Steve Irwin on the list of people who should never be surprised at how they die...
  10. Pretty interesting, I had no idea this something they did. Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to pass it along!
  11. If you're looking for something to make you really furious, read "Injustice" by J. Christian Adams. Tells you all about the Civil Rights Division of DoJ and the way they operate...
  12. Honestly I don't see it as a problem, as long as he's doing his job. For appearance's sake, if it were me, I would have closed the laptop or minimized the window, but hey, he's the Chief.
  13. http://www.ebay.com/itm/In-Case-of-Zombies-Break-Glass-Survival-Kit-Shotgun-Chrome-Replica-Walking-Dead-/160785159346?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item256f8ad4b2 In all seriousness though, that's some pretty ridiculous stuff. I tend to agree with SECTMB on this one.
  14. Just wanted to say thank you to all those on here who have served our country as a member of the armed services, intelligence community, contracting service, and of course law enforcement, fire service and EMS. May those who have fallen rest easy now. Perform, then, this one act of remembrance before this Day passes - Remember there is an army of defense and advance that never dies and never surrenders, but is increasingly recruited from the eternal sources of the American spirit and from the generations of American youth. ~W.J. Cameron
  15. Rest In Peace Trooper Anna. My condolences to her family, friends and Brothers and Sisters with Troop D and NY State Police as a whole. Godspeed.
  16. Nice! Thanks for the info Seth. We have one in CT Region 2, once I get my NIMS 300 and 400 I will be able to apply for the team. With the new job I will be able to get paid to take the classes so I won't be taking a week off of work to do it. Just curious how ours compares to some others. Currently the team has 1 "landscaper-style" trailer with rollout toolboxes for each Section (Command, Ops, Plans, Logs, Finance/Admin) as well as computers and printers for each with a few spares. Sounds like they are starting out small to figure out what they need before they really get into it. The team has a good mix of career and volunteer fire, law enforcement, EMS, OEM, as well as Yale University's OEM, Police and Security personnel. No shortage of stars and bugles at those meetings... haha.
  17. Still, is this really so important that we need a LAW about it? Aren't there better things for our governments to be spending their time on?
  18. Wow, thanks for the info Chris! Didn't realize NY had so many!
  19. Just wondering if anyone in NY or NJ has set up a regional Incident Management Team and how theirs works. We have 2 or 3 in CT set up through our DEMHS Regions, just curious how, if at all, things are done differently in NY/NJ. I know FDNY/NYPD has a Federal Type 1 IMAT Team, but I don't know who else does/doesn't have them.
  20. One of the best posts on this issue I've ever seen.
  21. Very sorry for your family's loss Frank, I didn't know your brother but by all accounts it sounds like he was a great cop and a great person. May he Rest in Peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and his Brothers and Sisters at the DA's Office and the JTTF.
  22. No problem, Asst. Chief O'Toole can probably give you the details if he pops on again, but the spec prints are here: http://www.nfvfd.org/6161/ The "eyebrow" lights are nice if you're pulling up to an MVA on one of the narrow backroads in town or up one of the long driveways we have so many of. Engine 6 that New Fairfield Company A took delivery of a few years back has them as well, and they've had success with them. One thing you can never have too much of is scene lighting. It will also be great for Ball Pond to have the 8 man cab as well, we end up filling the 2-man Engine and 2-man Tanker we currently have alot of the time and have to leave people behind in quarters. One of those problems that's a good one to have and an even better one to solve. 6-man Engine* Sorry its early.
  23. A lightbar will be added as well.
  24. Sue, I THINK they are still trying to fight that, but since the legislative session is over I'm not sure what they can do until next session, so until then they are still mandated to have the 1,200-someodd Troopers, even though they've been below that for over 5 years.
  25. In case you're wondering the different, Trooper Trainee is for the Connecticut State Police, whereas Protective Services Trainee is for the following agencies: Dept. of Mental Health and Addiction Services Police Dept. of Children and Families Police University of Connecticut Police University of Connecticut Health Center Police (Farmington campus, right now this is a separate department but it will be merged into UConn PD in the next few years) State University System (Southern, Western, Central, Eastern CT State Universities) Community Technical College System Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) These are the DMV Inspectors that do trucks, weigh stations, inspections, etc. Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Conservation Officers (EnCon) - Promoted to Conservation Enforcement Officer after completing training program.
