Rest in Peace Brother. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends as well as his comrades with the Yonkers Fire Department.

You're all sick... haha
-
Oh, I didn't realize Beacon had a career department in the first place... strange.

Just wanted to give everyone the heads up. Fire Engineering has added another show to their Blog Talk series, this one will be hosted by Deputy Chief/Training Officer PJ Norwood from East Haven, a very well known and respected instructor. From what I understand the premise of this show will be getting to know the people behind all the articles and trade journals and learning how their experiences shaped them as Firefighters, Fire Officers and Instructors. Tonight is the first show, and the guest is Chief John Norman from FDNY. If you're not busy tonight tune in, should be an interesting show. They also host another show with Captain Jim Duffy from Wallingford, CT and Deputy Chief Anthony Avillo from North Hudson, NJ about strategy, tactics and training. I listened for the first time earlier this month and picked up some great ideas for developing a training program at my station Anyway, here's the link to the Facebook event, you can sign up for the Chief's email list to get updates about shows coming up, etc. https://www.facebook.com/events/208894942570291/

Looks like an Oshkosh Stryker.

I mean really, is this an issue? I think its responsible of the town to say "we want to hear from the taxpayers" and get a formal presentation of cost vs. benefit before making a decision like this. Not saying its a bad idea to have a paid Chief, but its a good idea to have a conversation first.

Terrible news. Rest in Peace Brother. Obviously anytime I say that is too often, but it seems like its become more frequent than usual as of late. Hopefully the admins can put together some kind of rememberance banner or something for the site.

Hoping for a safe return.

Very sad news. Rest in Peace Brother, my thoughts and prayers are with NRFD and his family.

Not sure, but I THINK (and hope) he meant the person who knocks off the suspect should get the award, but I definitely understand your confusion. If not, then you're right.

I'm unwilling to blame any inanimate object for this crime, being a gun or a movie. So far I only count one person to blame for this ordeal, since the cops/feds are saying he acted alone.. I don't think infringing on ANY Constitutional rights (the 2nd OR the 1st) is the correct response to this kind of tragedy. Guns don't kill people, neither do movies or video games. I use all three and I've never killed anyone. We as a nation need to stop deflecting the blame from the suspect to all these political issues that make us feel "uncomfortable" just because we can't comprehend why someone would do something like this. HE did it, HE'S the one responsible. I see more outrage in the news and online against gun owners/manufacturers, the government and the movie industry than I do against the animal who shot 71 people. There's something fundamentally wrong with THAT. "Criminals thrive on the indulgence of society's understanding." -Ra's Al Ghul in "Batman Begins" Kind of fitting, isn't it?

Great work by the units on scene. I was listening to this call after I saw the initial shoutbox post, they got things secured pretty rapidly. Definitely could have went the other way if not for some quick thinking by the first couple units.

Good point, didn't really think of that.

http://www.lawofficer.com/video/news/audio-aurora-theater-shooting Dispatch tapes from the incident. I hereby nominate this woman for the Dispatcher's Hall of Fame. Incredible. Strange how long it took for them to get EMS units though, 10+ minutes in and the PD Commander is saying he's only got one ambulance on scene. As I recall greater Denver has one of the better "tactical paramedic" progams in the country.
-
To your comment I have 2 things to say: 1. Its too bad the PD didn't get the chance to put this animal down. While we all hope that no law enforcement officer ever has to fire his weapon in the course of duty, but in this case, it would have been justice done simply. 2. In CT there is no law against carrying a legally possessed weapon into a movie theater. Without getting into the huge gun control debate that will inevitably come out in the next few days (though it apparently already has) or "what if'ing" the specifics of this incident, theres nothing that prevents a permit holder from carrying in a theater in CT, not sure how you are in NY. Sure, the theater owner could say "no weapons on premises" and as a permit holder you would have to oblige, and they could get metal detectors, but LEGALLY there's nothing wrong with bringing your gun to a theater. Also, from the reports out right now (which of course may prove to be inaccurate) this guy had a shotgun and a rifle slung over his back. If you need a metal detector to find that, I'd recommend a good optician. To the issue at hand here: My heart goes out to the victims of this tragedy as well as their friends and families, and of course the first responders who I'm sure went through Hell trying to get this under control. It looks like the EOD and Tactical teams are still trying to render safe some IEDs at the suspect's house, wishing those guys a safe trip downrange. One of my classmates from Anniston is a Lieutenant with Denver Paramedics, I'm waiting to hear back if he was there and doing okay. This area not being any stranger to incidents of mass murder, I'm sure they have all the necessary CISD resources in the area to help these guys get through this emotionally. I'm sure this community will come back even stronger than ever, but we definitely need to stand with them now. But what, to me, is one of the most disturbing parts of this entire tragedy is that within TWELVE HOURS, individuals with their political agenda have already opened their stupid, uninformed mouths and given their opinion on who is to blame and how we should prevent this type of thing from happening, etc. The FBI and police haven't even finished interrogating the guy yet and already these talking heads and political sycophants are going to give us "expert analysis" on what went through the mind of the shooter. There's something fundamentally wrong the modern media when their editors are willing to spew that kind of nonsense before the incident is even OVER. That is wrong, and we as a society need to let these people know that we aren't going to accept this kind of "reporting" (and I use that term very lightly.) There's just no such thing as responsible journalism anymore.

Our Fire Marshal, along with his interns, have entered almost all of our preplans into the Firstlook Pro MDT software we use. We also had another team of interns check and identify all vacant/unsafe buildings (in coordination with the Building Dept.) With a red sign with a white X.

Quick question, what the heck is a smart meter?

Rest in Peace Chief!

The issue isn't that the Chief or Department didn't want flags, they wanted them displayed properly after citizen complaints that they were being displayed in a manner considered improper by the US Flag Code. This got so sensationalized so quickly. The Department allowed members to propose a policy/plan that would ensure the flags were displayed properly and, according to the Department, nobody cared enough to come up with one. That's on them.

Sure, right after you explain to me what the hell that post has to do with anything we've been talking about. I have to say, Nick's website provides an incredibly detailed explanation of his side of the story. Taking what he says at face value, because I haven't seen any explanation from IVFD, it sounds like he makes a great point. If all you want to do is respond to calls, why do you have to join both of these organizations and not just the Firematic side?
-
Seth, glad to see you're on the mend. Good luck Brother, if you need anything don't be afraid to reach out.
-
How many runs does HM1 do a year? I'd imagine they put a TON of miles on the rig being the only dedicated HAZMAT company in the city.
-
Three. You forgot twinkies
-
I hereby make a motion to make EMTBravoStamford its own separate website so we don't have to suffer through this in every other thread that pops up. Any second on the motion?

I don't know about you, but I've yet to see an outhouse that can handle the volume of crap coming out of my city hall...
