I'd pay good money to see a zombie motorcycle gang.

This is just sad. I wish I knew how to play, I'd volunteer to do it myself.
-
I was hoping someone with an LE background would stand up and say it first. If I could like this multiple times I would.

I agree, but you can't really blame those kids for not knowing. You can't talk about what happened on 9/11 anymore without it turning into a political debate. Any time I've tried to have an objective discussion on the facts of what happened that day, I've been interrupted by some jackwagon spouting off about how it was a conspiracy or talking about how they're against the war. Schools sure as hell aren't going to teach it, they're more concerned with teaching to the standardized test. Anyone who is talking about current events will only be talking about the election. I've got kids in my firehouse who were in 3rd Grade when it happened. Hell, I was in 7th, I just paid a lot more attention because of my interest in fire/law enforcement service. Its up to us to teach the probies and our younger family members about what happened that day. I plan on bringing my copy of the Naudet Brothers' documentary 9/11 to the station on Tuesday and playing it in the day-room, and hopefully generating a discussion with the Explorers and younger guys about what I remember from that day, limited as my experiences were. As to Cap's idea, I LOVE it. Education is the solution to this problem, and what better way than having those who fought there go through their experiences. I might be a bit more of a history buff than the average guy my age, but whenever I'm in DC at the Memorials I always enjoy striking up a conversation with a Veteran who experienced it firsthand, I always come away with more appreciation and knowledge. People my age and younger are so attuned to learning everything from the internet that I think a true firsthand account of someone's experiences could really be moving to them, if you could attract their attention.

"The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, can not and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheep dog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours. Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep. He is a constant reminder that there are wolves in the land. They would prefer that he didn't tell them where to go, or give them traffic tickets, or stand at the ready in our airports in camouflage fatigues holding an M-16. The sheep would much rather have the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, "Baa." Until the wolf shows up. Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog." -Colonel Grossman

Also remember Amtrak has different rules than MTA, which can also get you in a jam.

Certainly slows them down though...

Because Barack Obama doesn't care about sober people...

Good luck, a hazard mitigation plan is not an easy one to do, I looked into it briefly for work but I've got too many other plans that need to be done ASAP to get started on something like that just yet. Definitely important though, and something I'd like to do eventually.

Thanks for posting, I might try to make it down for this class if it doesn't conflict with another class I signed up for.

TWO GUYS on duty at night? Are you kidding me? No wonder the city is a war zone.

Rest in Peace Trooper. Godspeed.

The IAFF Local in West Haven does Red Shirt Fridays, and I think the proceeds from the shirts go to one of the military charities. North Haven FD has a member who is a Reservist with the SEALs, they did some pretty cool shirts and the proceeds when to either Wounded Warrior Project, Special Operations Warrior Foundation, or one of the similar organizations. I always wondered, how do you get set up with a military unit to "adopt" them? I'd like to set something like that up but I don't really know how to get started.

I think its photoshopped into the driveway background, but I can't quite place it either.

Well said.

Besides, I don't think the Governor is going to declare a State of Emergency for a water main break. That's a lot of money to throw at a localized event like that, especially right away. Kudos to Yonkers for reaching out to some resources that you wouldn't necessarily think of for something like that, like MTA and ConEd. Plenty of organizations other than fire departments have water tankers, and reaching out to them can get you the resources you need without depleting the emergency response resources of the county. This is why emergency preparedness is important. I know a lot of fire, police and EMS agencies have very little to do with their local OEM and Emergency Preparedness planners, which can be the fault of one or both sides of that communication. But sitting down and having a couple of meetings can make life so much easier when the fecal material hits the oscillating climate control device.

You're confusing Board Certified with Certifiable... Big difference... Seriously though, glad to hear you're okay George. Hoping everyone in FL and the Gulf make out alright in the next few days.
-
Just out of curiousity, what kind of staffing does Yonkers OEM have? Are they a separate agency or do they fall under the PD and/or FD?
-
Exactly as it should be. To paraphrase an old saying, a few thousand gallons of preparedness is worth more than a few million gallons of cure.
-
Anyone remember when YFD bought that giant water tanker? Where are all the people who said that was a waste of money??? Suddenly it doesn't look so silly, now does it?

But you ain't got no leeeegs Loo-Ten-ent Dan.
