Also-be sure to check out our News/Updates section on our home page. An issue has arisen regarding the role of the communications center and the dispatchers in tracking the status of this medivac helicopter-driving home the critical responsibility that fire dispatchers have. It is with deepest regret and sorrow to have to report to you the line-of-duty death of Fire Fighter/Flight Medic Robert Heighton of IAFF Local 3516-South Walton, Florida. It is presumed that Brother Heighton died late last night/early this morning when the helicopter he was in went down while responding to an incident. The bodies of the pilot and nurse that were aboard have been recovered, but efforts (at time of publication) are still underway to recover Brother Heighton's body. Our deepest sadness go out to the family of Fire-Medic Robert Heighton and the members of the South Walton FD. Take Care, BillyG The Secret List 10-21-04

  24. Another tragic loss of a young Fire Fighter Pennsylvania Firefighter Killed, Junior Firefighter Injured In Crash Associated Press AMITY, Pa. (AP) -- Authorities say a Berks County firefighter was killed in a car accident after he and another teenager went out to rent movies for the rest of the department to watch. Eighteen-year-old Jordan Nonnemaker of Birdsboro died Saturday in a two-vehicle collision on Old Swede Road in Amity. The driver of the vehicle, junior firefighter Craig Johnson of Amity, is listed in good condition Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Police say Johnson lost control of his car and was struck in the passenger side by an oncoming vehicle. Two people in the second vehicle were treated and released. Amity Fire Chief Kevin Neiswender says Nonnemaker's death hit the fire department hard, especially since many of the firefighters who responded to the accident knew him well. Neiswender says he called in several other departments to help at the scene because many of the Amity firefighters were upset. To All!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Drive as if your life depended on it because IT DOES! RIP FF Nonnemaker. Thoughts and prayers to Friends, Family and Extended Family.
