On a side note, I was talking with someone a couple weeks ago who lives in Pennsylvania, and has been a Sprint subscriber foe years. She tells me that where she is her Sprint phones worked great UNTIL the merger with Nextel---then her service went down the proverbial crapper. Getting to look like Verizon will soon be the best place to go!!!???
-
That might be ok IF Sprint and their CDMA system can integrate Direct Connect with it! But I'll believe that when I see it!
-
HHMMMM, Very Good, Ed! I like that!

We do our drills on Monday nights, with the exception of the third Monday which is our regular Monthly meeting. The Monday before parades is set aside for detailing the vehicles. However quite a few show up other nights as well. There are always a few members who don't go to parades, so if we get anything it gets covered. Exception to that is a parade any distance away. such as last night in Bedford we had a neighboring Department on standby in our headquarters. Our younger members have been informed that if they drink underage, they will be disciplined. But as I have stated in previous posts, we are VERY lucky to have the kids we do. They are a responsible bunch.
-
Nope, been on Thursday as far back as I remember. Though they did run an anniversary parade years ago.
-
Well, after Friday's call to Vinny Leibel's Office, at 0530 this morning, Son of a Gun! The Direct Connect started working in Croton Falls! Go figure!
-
How is your guy doing? Hope he's gonna be ok.
-
Cam, I've done that several times, even done master reset and a few other things their tech support had me try. A couple of them had me do the #*menurightarrow thing and read the reglog to them in CF it says reject, indicating a network fault. They just seem to be tajking their sweet time getting it rectified. At least a call back once in a while would be nice. This way it makes it look like they don't give a damn.
-
I have the I-Page also, once in a while I'll get the text page (I've been in the radio room in my firehouse) as I hear the voice over the radio giving the info, but we sometimes don't get the tones on the initial dispatch.
-
I'm not saying anybody uses this for primary communications! We do still use it a lot for communications when it becomes necessary. I don't think there is anybody who uses it the way you mentioned!
-
Anybody else on here try to use Nextel Direct Connect in The Croton Falls Area? All ya get is "Service Restricted" This has been on-going sporadically since early June. But for the las two weeks it is a continuous situation. With all the users in that area, including FD, PD, VAAC, even SP, it's a real problem! Damn things! After repeated calls to Nextel, it seems like NOTHING is getting done about it.
-
And by the way, this topic is NOT beaten to death, since people are STILL particpating in the action in question. And the discussion will go on and on forever. You can tell some people one time or ten thousand times, It doesn't change--Then you get to the current point of beating that damn dead horse!
-
I don't mean to say this board doesn't count, what I was getting at was to take this to other levels as well. I know, with the diverse population on here it will have some effect, but taking it to a "higher authority" (and they do exist) may expedite this needed change
-
It's NOT about CONFLICT, it's about CHANGE Doc. Yeah I Know, You're not telling me what I don't already know. I am not trying to fight you on that. BUT, sometimes in one's attempt to affect change by certain means, better ways can be utilized. I said that riding on the exterior of ANY moving vehicle is POTENTIALLY dangerous. This is one of time honored traditions that needs to end, I not denying that. As hard as you are working on here, to accomplish this are you putting in this much effort where it will really count? As was also mentioned in previous posts, approaching the parade judging associations, or even fighting to get laws passed prohibiting such acts? I never said you were wrong in what you're doing, I just think if you put a little thought into it you could do the job better
-
Izzy, You're not alone here! I agree 100%! It IS time to stop beating the proverbil dead horse! Listen, people we are all concerned about each others' safety as well as our own. That's one of the things that makes the Emergency Servicies Community what it is! I know that while some of you chose the methodology you do to stress a point, this is starting to show signs of something it need not be. I see no further gain here, to continue arguing over this. Have I done it? Yes Would I do it today? no Fact remains it is POTENTIALLY dangerous to ride on the outside of ANY moving vehicle, period! But to post photographs of vehicles and/or personnel that ANYBODY can recognize the way it's been done here is at least questionable. To bash a department, its officers or members on here is out of line. Again, I would like to believe that whatever bashing or questionable ethical tactics used here were done STRICTLY in the interest of safety and NOTHING ELSE. But I think it's time to put this on a back burner at least for a while. Just my $.02

Yeah, I did to BACK IN THE DAY, when there were not the number of incidents nor traffic on the roads. Back when apparatus didn't move at warp factor 9. When these vehicles had tailboards set up to ride on. This is like so many other lessons learned thru tragedy.Yes, you can stay lucky for a long time, but luck can run out anytime. As was stated previously, Nobody is passing judgment on anybody, just trying to protect YOU! Something you haven't figured out how to do for yourself.
-
Absolutely! AsI sat here thinking about this you sasid exactly what I felt!!!! Good Post!
-
Looks like this is starting to get a bit out of hand and maybe even a bit personal, so perhaps it's time to nip it in the bud now before it turns into something it doesn't need to.
-
Must be nice! I only wish I could afford the gas! Damn handsome car, I'll tell ya! Good luck with it if you do get it!
-
Of course! They had to fill it as a back-up water source if there ever should be a fire there.
-
Man, you and I must think alike, cause I scored 23 also?
-
Don't the parade judging associations have rules and regulations concerning this? I don't think it's cool or necessary unless a department gets a major incident requiring response from the line of march, otherwise a ir horns, sirens and screamers should remain quiet.

QUOTE(HFD23 @ Jun 26 2006, 08:42 PM) thats what i ment by training giving out a copy of that to the members and just reading through what its all about and tellin how the priverlage can be revoked by the chief or whom ever.... i know some depts just give out the light and the blue light card.... and "One blue light may be affixed to any motor vehicle owned by a volunteer member of a fire department" does that light bar count as only one light? * No. 4. Blue light. One blue light may be affixed to any motor vehicle owned by a volunteer member of a fire department or on a motor vehicle owned by a member of such person's family residing in the same household or by a business enterprise in which such person has a proprietary interest or by which he or she is employed, provided such volunteer firefighter has been authorized in writing to so affix a blue light by the chief of the fire department or company of which he or she is a member, which authorization shall be subject to revocation at any time by the chief who issued the same or his or her successor in office. Such blue light may be displayed exclusively by such volunteer firefighter on such a vehicle only when engaged in an emergency operation. The use of blue and red light combinations shall be prohibited on all fire vehicles. The use of blue lights on fire vehicles shall be prohibited and the use of blue lights on vehicles shall be restricted for use only by a volunteer firefighter as provided for in this paragraph. In my department we can respond with pov's to anything as long as it is not on I684. Calls on the Interstate, only apparatus and Chiefs' vehicles respond. Drivers have been instructed to wait for a crew before responding. For the calls on loacl roads, most of the time parking isn't a problem although once in a while t becomes necessary to remind people to stay on the same side of the road, etc.
