  1. North Salem is also a Part Time PD, like Lewisboro, supported by SP Somers. We had the contract with Westchester, during the transition from the constables who had red lights and sirens in personal vehicles which they used for patrol. When the town, went with full fledged Police Officers, the organization of the NSPD, hiring and training process took some time, so they contracted with WCPD in thr interim.
  2. JSG, I think you mean the electronic, siren, but in the situation you mentioned above, the electronic eould be just as much of a PITA.
  3. No, just somebody who knows their sirens. Of course the good ole screeeeeeeaaaaaaaammmmmeeerrr is an easy one to recognize. And beside you are MOS, aren't you? Dispatchers (IMHO) are just as much MOS as the rest of us.
  4. I posted under another thread previously, but we had a call some years back, involving cans of spray paint stored in a basement atop the oil burner. It was during late winter or very early spring. The homeowner, of offspring thereof, had his car in the garage, doing some work on it and had put 6 or8 cans of gloss black soray paint on top of the furnace to warm up. After half or three quarters of an hour, they exploded with enough force from the basement to actually blow the front door, frame sidelite windows and all abuot 35 feet from the house. So I would definitely say that you want to be real careful with that stuff. It was nothing short of a miracle that noone was injured, especially considering the fact that somrone was in a shower in the basement in quite close proximity to the furnace.
  5. 585, I think you need to take a step back and look at who a lot of our members are---Buffs. They aren't police officers, firefighters or emts, or, for that matter, any other emergengy service personnel, although a lot of MOS, do reply to threads like this, but a lot of the good old buffs do too. I onderstand your point, which is a valid one, but are the true buffs who aren't MOS gonna be as concerned about training and safety? I think not.
  6. Ed was Chief in Brewster in my early days in Croton Falls. It was always a pleasure to work with him. He will be sorley missed, by all who had the honor and the pleasure to work with him. Rest in Peace, Chief.
  7. There are 57 of me out there.
  8. I agree with the medic as well. they should have District issued uniforms, and they could possibly get help from some local merchants with that.
  9. Weren't some, or all of these in their respective groups before? seems to me, if memory serves correctly, that they were split up to allow more attention to be given to issues in the Fire, EMS, Ploice groups. I could be wrong, but I have a recollection of something like that happening a while back. But if it does make it more consise, I'm all for it.
  10. Very Moving! That's one hell of a story!
  11. HEY!!!! Today is the 28th Birthday of our awesome administrator!!! Happy Birthday, Seth!!!!! And many More!!!
  12. Thoughts, prayers, and condolences to the friends and families of these heroes, and to the Flint-Gresham VFD. Rest in Peace, Brothers.
  13. Congratulations to Firefighter Chavez on winning this. This truly looks like a real lifesaver! Great job!!!!!!
  14. Up until June of 2006, I smoked cigars, average, probably around 4 or 5 per day. I had a very bad case of pneumonia. Now, I can't tolerate ANY smoking, especially cigarettes as well as that Godawful stench that is embedded in their clothing. So now if I'm a patient in any hospital, the last thing I need or want is that damn stink. Just the rant of a former smoker. Oh and by the way, go I miss smoking??? NOT ONE BIT!!!!!!!!!!
  15. We have used them a few times, and we simply call 60 Control and they make the arrangements for the team to meet us at the time and location we request.
  16. Good post, Sarge, Do you think some of these older seniors even have the comprehension to realize that they aren't the only ones out there? I've seen how some of them are in a grocery store near a senior citizen developement. If you're on line at the register, or are looking in a certain area, they act like you aren't even there, they simply push you out of their way. So put one of these behind the wheel of a car, it becomes an accident looking for a place to happen
  17. I know there is a number of people who use the I-page system at 60 Control. Just as a point of information, I recently picked up the Nextel IC502 hybrid phone. Even though the Direct Connect is still on the Nextel Network, the phone is now on the Sprint PCS Network. Once the new phone was activated, I had to have the carrier changed in the system at 60 Control to Sprint. This is true for any change of Cellular Phone Carrier.
  18. Chris, what is the model of your phone? If it's ic 402, 502, or 902, it's a hybrid phone, which means that the Direct Connect is Nextel, but the phone part is Sprint. If you have one of the older Nextel phones, you may need to log on to the website, and check. You will be given a choice of Sprint or Nextel. Hope this helps
  19. We have a supply of non rebreathers in the firehouse. So if we don't get a replacement, we have plenty anyhow. If we olace one on a patient, it generally stays on unless, for some reason something different is necessary.
  20. No, I don't agree. Because if you're behind them, you can prepare for what might happen. Being in front of them is worse, more dangerous, cause they can attack from the rear, without warning.
  21. We currently use Amkus, and have no problems at all The tools are a little heavy, but not too much for 1 or 2 guys to operate.
  22. Once again, just proves that old saying===The apple don't fall far from the tree.
  23. Well, I guess we're gonna have to teach the Police how to fight fires and teach Firefighters how to be Police Officers.J/K
