  1. I certinly do NOT give the driver any credit.....He obviously did NOT have control of his vehicle and risked his fellow firefighters and civilian lives. This is a lesson for all drivers of emergency vehicles that driving too fast is deadly.
  2. WCC or Phelps Hospital have excellent EMT classes. Study the practical skills sheets very carefully, especially the medical and trauma patient assessment skills. Maybe take a CPR class before EMT school just to get warmed up. Also pay close attention to the A&P section of the class. It can't hurt to buy a good EMT book now and start reading (Brady - "Emergency Care" you can get it at the WCC book store). Study, study, study and then after that...study. Good luck.
  3. They didn't say what year in June/July did they?
  4. Great article......This is the kind of public relations that E.M.S. needs to let the public be aware of our value to the community. Good job and congrats to all. Paul Aiello
  5. ===================== "Its the paid guys who take our stuff". Well, vacguy, I'm a "paid guy", also know as a career professional, and I work both in Westchester County as well as NY City. In NY City there is a rotation of backboards amongst all NY City EMS agencies and I have never seen nor taken a backboard that is not in the rotation of NY City agencies. In Westchester, if I leave equiptment at a certain hospital, I only take the equiptment that is labeled by the agency that I work for being that this is the practice in Westchester County. I recommend that you take your foot out of your mouth because it is obstructing your airway thus restricting oxygenation to your brain as demonstrated by your stupid remarks about "paid guys".
  6. There is no excuse for this! Adaquete Police, Fire and EMS (both bls and als) is essential. Police Officers should do Police work, Firefighters should fight fires and EMT's and Paramedics should do EMS. All of the bullS**t politics and passing the buck should stop and the residents should be given the proper services.
  7. I am interested in career EMT's & Paramedic's hourly pay in Westchester County. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please indicate EMT hourly pay, Paramedic hourly pay, location in Westchester, private ambulance service vs. paid thru a vac or municipality. Thanks.

  10. Chris192...Excellant idea! Assign a career EMS Ambulance to each zone. Have each VAC pay for it thru revenue recovery, shared by each VAC. That way an ambulance is always available for calls instead of rolling the dice to see if vollies will show up for calls.
  11. Maybe each zone should have a paid (career EMS) EMT flycar to insure that at least 2 professional EMT's are on duty at all times. The crew can be paid thru the VAC's revenue recovery program (with the expense shared by each VAC in the zone).
  12. Maybe we should watch the guy who wrote the stupid "6 minute wait" rule bleed for 6 minutes before applying direct pressure. "I'm sorry sir but according to my VAC's standard operating procedures, you MUST bleed for 6 minutes before we administer any type of treatment".
  13. Is there a reason for waiting 6 minutes? I can't think of any. I guess if its a cardiac arrest call then you shouldn't even bother going.....just send the undertaker.
  14. Dumber then a box of rocks.
  15. === Hey I'm with ya' all the way. EMS should not be a Hobby or for profit. People that do EMS as a hobby tend to be more interested in the lights and sirens and seeing the wrecks more then administering quality patient care. EMS for profit is also a no-no because private ambulance services always look to save money by providing low bid vehicles, equiptment and underpaying thier EMT's and Paramedics. If yu are not an EMT, Paramedic or a patient, you do NOT belong on an ambulance. Paul Aiello
  16. Even as a flycar there still isn't a lot of room for equiptment. Paul
  17. If my house is on fire or I'm sick and need an EMT / Paramedic or if I need a cop all I would care about is that the responding person is on top of his game. All this crap about diversity is just that.....crap. Paul Aiello
  18. Can you please provide more detail. What were the circumstances? Was the MOS on or off duty? Was he in cardiac arrest? Was it due to an injury or illness? I wish him the best and a speedy recovery. Thanks, Paul
  19. Etomidate is also being used in NY City with good results but lasts only a short time so it tends to get used in conjunction with Ativan or Versed to maintain sedation and pain control. Paul
  20. Lenox Hill Hospital purchased 3 new ambulances. Chevy van front, box in the back, gasoline powered with a generator to power the box. Not much leg room in the front but a lot of room in the box (but poorly configured patient compartment). A little too wide for Manhattan streets but you gotta' work with what ya' got! Paul
  21. ===================================================== Driving to Daytona from NY with 3 women in the car!!!!! You deserve the purple heart!!!
  22. They would probley run out of film at the Vern.
  23. I just want to say thank you to the Fairview FD Rescue Squad, Engine Co. & Greenburgh PD EMS for assisting my mother at the Barnes & Noble store on Tarrytown Rd in the crossroads shopping center on May 2, 2007. She is 80 and took a nasty fall. Her final diagnosis was a fractured arm and a dislocated shoulder. The responding units put her arm in a sling and my mom really appreciated the assistance. Good Job guys! Paul Aiello
