This is disgraceful.........6 weeks, 4 days. Its a scantron sheet. Takes a few seconds to grade and yet...6 weeks, 4 days later nothing. What do ya' think NY State would do if it took 6 weeks, 4 days for my tax check to clear?

Does anyone know which NYC EMS units were there? FDNY EMS or private hospital EMS units?

Another day....another empty mail box. No love letters from NYS DOH. Hopefully I'll get the results before I need to recertify again! Anyone out there have better luck then me???

My friend who is an EMT-I is looking to recertify her EMT-I but is having trouble locating an EMT-I refresher class. Where can she go?

Does Ossining EMS still use EMT-I's? Any other EMS agency in Westchester use EMT-I's? I have a friend that is interested in the EMT-I program. Thanks

I work a part time BLS job for a VAC in Westchester and get $15.00 / hour.... No benefits except for a Christmas bonus ($250.00). I also work a per-diem Paramedic job in Manhattan (911) and get $27.50 / hour plus shift diff. pay.

Maybe things should be changed to be "FD within EMS".......after all, there are a lot more EMS runs vs fire runs. Hmmm.....ANYTOWN EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE ...and fire too. Why not make FD the red headed step child of EMS! Hee-hee-hee!

I thought that the word "volunteer" meant that you did something for no compensation. Now there are tax breaks, free parties, free dinners, pensions, worker's comp benefits.......what's next? Paid vacation? Oh, yea......That's called a convention at Lake George. I guess the only thing missing is a paycheck.

Its really not a volunteer ambulance corps if almost all of your EMT's are paid.

Sure you can do both and be good at both but why be forced to be a firefighter or police pfficer if you just want to be an EMT or a Paramedic? EMS should be a third municipal service. Period.

If the volunteer corps can only muster 3 EMT's for its entire membership, they should disband for the sake of patient care and let a career service take over.

Apples, oranges and banannas......all fruit but not the same. PD, FD and EMS ... all emergency services but not the same either. Why does a Paramedic or an EMT have to be a FF or PO to do what they really want to do. EMS should be its own entity, not the red headed step child of a PD or FD.

I agree, EMS needs to be union. As sensitive as this is, we really should also have an all paid system. Volunteers have a lot of heart with what they do and provide a community service but they do prevent EMS from becoming a truely recognized career that is paid equally with PD &FD along with benefits and 20 year retirement.
