I was a member of a paid-on-call department in Illinois before I moved out here. The city was Westmont, IL. We had 2 houses. 3 FF engine (including the boss) on the North side and a 3 FF engine & 3 FF Tower Ladder on the south side. Each house has (1) full-time ambulance staffed with paramedics. We bid for shifts each month for the next month. By the 25th of each month you knew what tours you would be working for the next month. Work tours were 6am-6pm on the day tour and 6pm-6am on the night tour. I ended up making this my full-time job before being hired out here. I made very good money at it, but worked a ton of hours doing it. We received an hourly rate depending on your certs, qualifications and rank. There was 1 1/2 time OT for any hours worked over the set amount. Any "general alarm" (building fire, hazmat, tech rescue, mutual/auto aid, or manpower callback) would bring back off-duty members if they chose to come in. The city called it "paid-on-call" but it seemed to me more of a "paid-part-time" department. If anyone knows of anything like this out here (NY), let me know.

I hope for this guy's personal well-being that his guys never find him sitting on a chair and watching TV. I would have him running around all day for pulling this! Nate DeMarse

Guys, I sent that out. I corrected everything up to today. The only thing that it doesn't have on it are the RAC units. You have to have Microsoft Streets & Trips 2004 to open and view the file. It will not work on anything else. If you find any corrections email me with them. If anyone has any discrepancies (I think E243 & E245 might be wrong) let me know. Thanks, Nate

God I hope so. Hurst is too damn heavy Sorry all of you Hurst lovers, but I've used a few different sets of rescue tools, and I have to say that Amkus is the best that I have used. I am not sure about TNT, but it has to be better than 50lb cutters & 75lb spreaders. ](*,) Nate

Hello all, I am relatively new to the area (about a year), and I was wondering if there is a Westchester training academy or if the departments just fend for themselves for drilling and training. I think that Rockland has one, but curious on Westchester. Any info/website address would help. Thanks Nate DeMarse

The new list I believe has been established and is running concurrent for the next class with the old (current) list. I know a few people that have been called (up to 700 I think) for their processing. Nate DeMarse Bronx
