  1. 635, howd the FIOS install go?
  2. Yes 635, their network is getting maxed out especially at peak times. They are having trouble keeping up with the increased bandwidth demands
  3. I'm kind of partial to FIOS, being a Fios splicer and now an installer- it is simply the most advanced network out there- no matter what our competition says.
  4. I'm a FIOS splicer, we just completed a large part of Peekskill office and it should be available shortly- it is by far a superior network design to Cable. the Tv is great and on the way.
  5. When I get those kids looking for the air horn , I grab the air horn chain and pretend to pull it but actually hit the oem horn on the steering wheel, it gets a laugh and nobody loses their hearing. ( of course not in a competition parade)
  6. Agreed, when I was Chief, for our memorial day parade, I put the word out to all the drivers- our department and visiting to keep off of the sirens and keep air horns to a minimum. After the parade I got several thank yous from residents including children. It's another thing I think (in a small way) that tarnishes us all as un-professional ya-hoos.
  7. Totally disagree with the use of sirens in parades- a 120 decibel q-siren blowing withing feet of any young child or adult is not "fun"- . Yeah I know how you see a lot of the older kids egging you on, but have you seen the 2 year old crying after you've hit it? When I was Chief, one year for our St Patricks day parade I gave the order for "no sirens", it went well and I didn't hear any compaints.
  8. I have written four USFA FEMA Grants for our Department- we have recieved two of them. A fire prevention grant and a communications grant. My advice to you is to go to one of the grant workshops that USFA offers and take notes. You should realize that the people reviewing the apps are our peers- from the fire service- I think if you have a need and demonstrate that need in a sincere and rational way you have a good chance- Take it from me, your writing doesn't have to be sophistcated and the narrative doesn't have to be very long- mine were very short and to the point. If you have any questions please feel free to reply. As far as the grant writer, I think someone from your own department would probably best be able to express your needs.
  9. Hey 1054, don't forget the one on U-12!
  10. That is correct- the dividing line is right down the center of broadway- the sub-station, gas turbines etc are in Buchanans' district and the Nuclear side is in Verplancks' district. The Verpklanck Fire department was established before our Department so they handled some of the fire protection in that area within the Village boundaries. ( this was when Indian Point was an amusement park, not a Nuke plant). So when Buchanan Fd was formed, Verplanck had already annexed Indian Point into there district, but the property remains within the Village of Buchanan. We are on a 2nd due response per an agreement we sign every other year with Entergy. And that is correct, they have their own on-site fire brigade and haz-mat. We have some members that are on the brigade.
  11. I think Buchanans' is cool- two hands with a hammer and chisel splitting an atom- now that's cool!!
