I too took the train in to the game Saturday. Took it in from Darien. Went smoothly, wasn't too crowded coming down (I took the last local train north of Stamford). New station at yankee stadium is pretty nice, I was laughing that they had numerous automated announcements that you cannot bring open containers outside of the station and they must be discarded before you left. It's about a 5-10 min walk (depending on pedestrian traffic) to the stadium -- cops keep the flow of people controlled pretty well. Coming back, train was waiting right at the station - pretty packed solid, standing room only. Only downside to the train... is you're forced to stay the entire game since the trains run along with the game progress. They didn't really tell you either what would happen if there were a rain delay or cancellation, I wonder if they'd have us waiting for potential hours if they were to delay the game? No idea. Overall though, good experience. Much better than fighting parking and traffic and the subway!

London does this - they prioritize and even take a step farther - they have doctors that may respond to a call instead of an ambulance if it's not an emergency. Also have staff to give advice over the phone instead of sending any response.

Not sure if anyone was watching the Fox 5 News at 10 tonight... but they had a ludicrous story about a "crazy ambulance driver" based out of Peekskill VAC. I don't have any info on the story online, can't find it posted. Pretty much it showed an ambulance "driving crazy" to a cardiac arrest "speeding through stop signs" and "blowing red lights" while following an engine that was directly in front of it... The video then shows the ambulance driver lighting up a cigarette in the driver seat. Must be a slow news day...

The show was interesting to see what goes on "behind the scenes" to what we see everyday -- always up for learning more about that type of stuff. What I was kind of bothered by though was the exposure to the way the gov't is spending its resources -- do we really need 6 people doing an all out manhunt for 6 mexican proclaimed gang members? I dont know... Rubbed me the wrong way a bit. (No, i'm not saying that we should leave our borders unprotected, just wondered about the amount of resources needed for it for the overall good for all)

With that being said, I've done it as professional courtsey at points... If i'm in an ambulance responding to a FD driven call (IE MVAs), I'll pull over to let the FD pass (even if I'm responding too)... but if I'm first responding with the FD to a medical emregency, i'll pull over to let an ambulance pass. Maybe i'm just nice though I'd never PASS another moving, responding vehicle though.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28179848/ While I understand there are some MAJOR sickos among us in our profession... I feel like the way this article protrays EMS is that we are all out to have some 'extra fun' with our patients. SIGH.......

What the heak does district boundry issues have to do with career vs volunteer?!!? Stop trying to turn it into one of these fights! if you look at the response times, they actually were not that bad. AND -- Just to throw it out there -- If you had career FFs in Millwood *AND* Yorktown, there would STILL be no difference because of the time it took for yorktown to get from their station to the fire... your point is totally skewed.

Personally -- Everyone can be in 100% agreement or 100% disagreement about a county fire department, and a holistic view to everything in Westchester County regarding the Fire Service... BUT!! the main issue, is that this is not an overnight process. To form a county fire department would takes YEARS AND YEARS of planning, approvals, and deployment. This isn't a "oh, Yorktown has had 2 fires that could have been different if we had a unified plan, let's go do it", it's a LOT larger than that. I'm not against this by any means, I'm just saying people really need to differentiate between the two. In terms of the YFD/MFD issue -- I agree that politics needs to get out of this issue. Most people don't care what fire dept comes to their house when it's burning, as long as it's quick and they can do what they have to... Looking at the tax structure of a fire district probably takes some time and state planning, town planning, etc... but setting up an automatic mutual aid plan is as simple as calling DES and puting it on the box. Right? (Correct me if I'm wrong). I just feel some people's priorities are not where they should be. Remember folks, we're here to serve our community! Not argue about who gets to piss on a fire first!
