  1. I somewhat agree with Velcro's comments... what value is it going to provide measuring "pt contact time" unless you want your staff literally running to every call. I wonder from a technical way how would you even measure this - if you had to radio "pt side" to dispatch, think of the amount of increased radio traffic, fighting for a signal in crappy buildings, etc. I always went by the rule of thumb "you're not on scene until the ambulance is in park" for the reason that if you call out "on scene" and happen to get into an accident parking, while 20 seconds away, etc. it could become an issue that you told your dispatcher officially you were no longer "moving"
  2. Any idea's what happened to the coned equipment? I know the secondary line was down for scheduled maintenance...

  4. Seth- I've gotten like 20 copies of the email you sent out last night, something seems wrong. Could you look into it ASAP? They keep coming l!
  5. 1 station place for the major gas leak Metro north service suspended, area shutdown by stamford pd and fire. Train station temporarily evacuated. ~1750: Gas leak contained - metro north reopened and roads reopening. Railroad was suspended for ~25min
  6. Date: 1-19-13 Time: ~1:30am District: Downtown Shelton Location:235 Canal St Units: Shelton, Derby, Ansonia, Trumbull, Monroe (coverage), Shelton EMS (2 ambulances + rehab unit) Frequency: various Weather Conditions: Cold Reporters: Description: Fire in abandoned industrial property (no electrical to building) - spread to neighboring buildings 1FF hurt due to ice formed at scene http://valley.newhavenindependent.org/archives/entry/video_firefighters_battle_canal_street_fire_in_shelton/ (pics + videos)
  7. In reality - does that mean there's going to be more or less volunteer opportunities? Would volunteers ever get expanded into the downtown stamford area? (like, if you're somewhere in stamford, go to closest station type idea)
  8. We've had a few conversations at work about business continuity during adverse weather... for us it's fully expected to you to be "at work" if not physically, than working from home...
  9. Absolutely was. A true loss to the EMS community, though his memories will live on forever by those that he touched.
  10. Not sure who saw this yet... but great example of some HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE media... I get "freedom of the press" but can anyone in their right mind tell me why it's appropriate to post pictures of uncovered dead bodies!? http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/person-killed-shooting-empire-state-building-morning-rush-article-1.1143522
  11. Based on the audio it does sound like PD was authorized to "scoop and run"
  12. woo....about damn time!!
  13. Common... let's not turn this into a volunteer vs career discussion and "you have too much apparatus to serve a public purpose" This is a conversation about technology and enabling it to do our jobs better.
  14. Me too, though a commercial agency may have it's own policies it needs to follow.
  15. Also agencies like VEMS that does a shared paramedic fly car in the valley (shelton, derby, ansonia, oxford, etc.) AMR is primary 911 but I believe FD also does 1st response with certain Priority 1's (cardiac, etc.). AMR also covers areas up and down the coast out of NH/Bridgeport (Milford, Fairfield, etc.) Norwalk EMS may also be one to look at. How far are you looking to travel?
  16. Date: 12/18/2011 Time: ~1am & ~3am Location: Route 8 IAO exit 13 Frequency: Units Operating: Shelton FD, Shelton EMS, Valley ALS Weather Conditions: Dry Description Of Incident: One car MVA rollover with ejection (2 pts + 1 dog) followed by a 2nd MVA (1pt) Reporters: http://www.wtnh.com/dpp/news/fairfield_cty/couple-killed-in-one-car-crash Writer: One Car MVA with 3 ejections. 2nd MVA involved high rate of speed into a state DOT truck blocking off the road from the 1st MVA 3 DOAs
  17. One option would be to NOT leave the flycar on scene... I've riden with a handful of depts that require the EMT to take the fly car while the medic is in the ambulance to allow a faster return to service, especially if it's a shared medic.
  18. Maybe my geography is off... but isn't Norwalk a bit of a distance from Vista? I would think that maybe something like a medic from wilton would be closer (which is actually still a norwalk medic..)
  19. I actually dropped mine off a treadmill and cracked the corner of the screen... I know ive dropped my toughbook from standing height and it wouldn't have known the difference
  20. I had a few gripes here -- which were PM'd and e-mailed to a few folks (none of which replied to me...) First, as the original poster, I was never notified the post was removed, but it simply "disappeared". No notification to the originator, at least a professional curtsey. Secondly, I felt the thread (minus the "me vs you" comments) was very educational for the members of this community. While it is a black eye for our industry, what better opportunity to learn from. Third, we see tons of threads in this community that are "locked" and "cooled down" -- yet, for some reason, this one was straight out removed. Fourth, it's been quite a few days since the thread was removed and this is the first public acknowledgement that it was done -- nothing was done at the time, just simply vanished in thin air. It's no doubt the EMTBravo staff have a huge job on their hands -- but we're not kids here, treat us like adults and we'll treat you back.
  21. cross posting from another Fire/EMS site... not sure if this has been posted here yet, but pretty stunning video. Communication, communication, communication! http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/brooklyn/rescue_horror_jJHDq4XRcU9s2mNnnR6HEP

  24. Have coworkers in Cincinnati Ohio that felt the shake -- as well as Syracuse NY. Was actually on the phone with someone in Virginia near the epicenter, said he had to go then 3-4min later I felt the shake up in Danbury
