  2. anyone know a decent/ok priced snow plower in the mt kisco area?? looking to get rid of the current company we use... tired of paying crazy amounts of money for a crappy plowing job!!
  3. NCEMSF won't give you money (to what I know) - its more of a networking thing... like a firefighter's association. They run a yearly conference and have yearly awards and such. I do believe you still need to become accredited... you need an agency code to put on a PCR. Maybe you could talk to EVAC and try to become a subciderary of them or something like that? Do you have a health center? Try to talk to them..
  4. The new japaneese place next to villerinas is VERY good... not cheap, but I think their food is really good.
  5. some people I think are just put on this earth to lower the average IQ.
  6. Good to hear you taking the initative! I'm part of the ambulance corp at syracuse university. We're primarily funded from the S.U. Health Center - all students pay a "health fee" and we get a portion (VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY small portion) of that for vehicle ops, etc. All of our MEMBERS stuff (ie: bunks for sleeping, chairs, etc.) is paid by the student gov't as we're also a student organization. PM me if you would like more info -mike

  8. SYRACUSE! oh wait... we don't do that well in football :-/ new coach, new hope?
  9. oh I didn't really write the PCR for the call - the instructor just made photocopies of PCRs for us to write on :-) Either way, I'm quite happy he did it - helped a LOT!
  10. I agree with you 100%! In my basic class, we actually did spend some time going over PCRs (well, not a whole lot... but he gave us a cheat sheet) - and before we could take our practical, he made us turn in 10 pcr's from our rideouts that he "graded" and would not let us take the practical until he was happy that we at least had the jist of things. I think it would be great to be part of the practical... makes sense. I know a handful of ambulance companies make you do a "practice PCR" as part of the job interview process... good!
  11. I agree with BFD - great topic to be brought up... one thing that's always bugged me, is there is never a real "standard" to writing PCRs. Depending the part of state, EMT instructor, agency... you'll find pcr's ranging from 1 word, to 10 CCRs. I'm not sure what can be done about it, but just something to bring up. This isnt saying that all PCRs should be the same - everyone has their own writing styles... but abbrevations should be standardized... and "what type of things" to be written should be same across the board.
  12. Great web site aimee!!
  13. He's saying that doctors do not go to school to "become a RN" then when they feel like it go to med school... they start out in med school. Trying to make the point that instead of going EMT->Paramedic people should just become paramedics. STAT - You have pushed me a bit - You have to remember, ambulances are NOT hospitals on wheels... they're to provide emergency care, in the field, to get someone hopefully still somewhat alive to a hospital. I still stand by the fact that if you call 911 and only get a basic, that's a hell of a lot better than getting a lay rescuer who can't even do CPR correctly. I feel like in general most paramedics I know look down on EMTs because "they can't do what we can" - is it cockiness? I don't know... but I don't see much backing for a lot of the reasoning... sure it'd be awesome to have a parmedic who can dispense quite a handful of drugs on a rig, but they're few and hard to come by in terms of training verses a basic... so if you have someone there who can at least do basic airway mangament, give an epipen, give albuterol... that's a huge step forward. no world is perfect, but bashing those below you isn't the way to fix it. just my $0.02.
  14. I have to agree with calhobs... we are all here to help people ... why are we fighting as to who can give the better care and who should be the only ones around? THANK YOU VOLUNTEER BASICS, INTERMEDIATES, AND PARAMEDICS. No matter what level, everyone helps and everyone should be thankful that SOMEONE with AN AMOUNT of medical training responds to a 911 call.
  15. In all seriousness, what do you mean by evacuation tones? at a scene, or say an incident at Indian Point? The county does have "north county" and "south county" tones which are trying to get pushed out to all the depts to put into their pagers... but to get all the pagers in the county reprogrammed... well now that's another story. It's a step in the right direction though! Besides that, sometimes during major incidents (ie: blackout last year? 2 years ago? hmm whenever it was) you'll hear 60ctl go over the radio and say "60ctl to all departemtns, you are requested to man your stations" but they arn't going to go paging out x departments to deliver the msg (hense the try for a north/south tone)
  16. yes the HEAR system is used to communicate with hospitals to/from an ambulance about incoming pts, medical direction, etc.
  17. ... 60 control to everyone.... RUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
  18. soem of you might blow the kosher thing off, but there are a lot of people that do feel that way... as we may all disagree with it and tell them that it'll save their lives... they don't want to break any rules. i'd be more worried about the allergic rxns over anything about being kosher though.
  19. there's no wild strippers running around 60-control? damn.
  20. archville runs 50-75 calls a year
  21. Millwood got best tanker, best non-regulation uniform, best ladies aux - chappaqua got 2nd best non-reg and chappaqua also got best ladder (i believe)
  22. DADAY: I meant that we're doing them a favor in that we don't just cone it off and leave... a lot of times FD's or at least chief's stay on scene until a crew arrives. I agree with x635 - cone it, tape it off, and go back to bed... if someone walks across it or drives over it.. .they probably had it out for them anyway. Id' be curious to know why coned to denied Lieut2?
  23. I don't know what it is about carvel but whenever I have their frozen yogurt it makes me feel like crap afterwords... something they put in it just makes me feel so like blaaah afterwords. How's the A&P in kisco? I've seen it, but have not had a chance to try it yet
  24. While it might nto be the best thing to have them flying lights/sirens... when you're in northern westchester and they blatently tell you they are responding from say... Yonkers... it might make a little difference. I agree that FDs should get some reimburstment too for staying at a scene past x amount of time. We are doing them a favor.
