  1. My department is currently purchasing a new tool (full compliment) and replacing a full system on another truck. I am asking for everyones thoughts and experiences with different companies. Good and Bad. Some companies considering are: Hurst, Amkus, Halmotro, TNT, Genesis....etc... Thank you in advance....
  2. I thank everyone for their imput. Has anyone every used Genisus? Also we have chiefs and commisioners who are taking care of the why and how much. I am strictly asking about your experience with the tools and what little tidbits you may have that would help out.

  4. I know that Yorktown is sending their Tanker and Millwood is sending their mini-attack as per requested from county.
  5. This problem is everywhere, and it really does bother me. People getting caught up in routine and gunna end up caught with their pants down when it does end up being something. The fire alarm goes off for a reason and thats why FD is called. I hate seeing ppl in my own department who just get on the truck and dont put packs on and treat it like a nice joy ride. We had one where we got on scene and the house was filled with smoke. What happened was the family was on vacation and their sub-pump had shorted and started to catch fire and melt, so the smoke set off the fire alarm and we were able to go correct the problem. You never know - so always be on your toes -
  6. To get back on the subject - its very easy for someone passing by to produce their own thought on the matter but the fact is that they are just passerbys and they have no idea what is actually happening. the bike might be in the far left lane but the victim may be in the middle of the highway. Then if you dont have enough resources to block the road - we are in big trouble. As we all know truck placement on the highways is extremely important for everyones safety and as we also know people will try and sueeze through any part that is not completely blocked. so its important to make sure the resources are on there way and if you dont need them send them back. If there is another call that you cant cover due to your incident at the time then you make the call for mutual aid. But when push comes to shove if the fire gets out and lives are saved then we did our job. Every person on this board, career or volunteer, does something very special. Remember when people are running out of a structure or when people are trapped in a car who do they rely on? You!
  7. Well in my dept we are very strict about driving to scene. You must arrive on a truck unless the incident prevents you from getting to the firehouse. Especially on the parkway there is absolutely no POV's.
  8. As you all have said it is very important that the first unit there communicates well. My dept had a very serious motorcycle accident on the Taconic on Sunday. Two motorcyclists and a car. one motorcyclist hit the guardrail and the bike bounced off at a car and the car swerved and ended up loosing control and another motorcyclist t-boned the car. Very messy. One victim was about 100ft down laying in the middle of the highway. The communications were thankfully clear and they got the road closed before further damage was done. It is so important that you send enough resources but you never know what that is untill someone can asses the scene. It gets even harder when there is more then one agency especially when they operate on completely different frequencies. Unfortunately at this specific incident we had to keep 2 of the 3 lanes closed for hours as an AI was done by PD.
  9. My department sends 2 engines. It has been debated though for highway car fires to send an engine and a tanker.

  14. Unless your agency requires you have one while you work then i see no reason for people in EMS or fire to have one. I saw that picture of the one that resembles the NY detective and i have searched and cant see anywhere that you can even get that -- which is good, but how do so many people have them?
  15. I mamroneck, they had numerous National Guard units were driving around in the deep water - and we would transfer them from the boat to the truck and the truck would bring them back to land ---- one of the vehicles however was taken too far in and stalled out -- had to be towed by some crazy national guard wrecker -- looked like it belonged on space Basically, it would be great to have that, but thanks to having the national guard who was gathered before the storm started strictly for possible relief efforts we were able to make use of their high water rescue units. The National Guard did a great job and not all the units that were regrouped were deployed -- If was great to see them with the equipment they needed despite the speech that the head of the national guard gave to the military leaders and congress last week, where he said the national guard can not handle any great emergencies at this time. ---- x635 - as you mentioned money and grants -- im sure they could get a suitable one that the military is going to get rid of -- a little fixer upper or something like that -- but because of its probably rare use -- the maintenance would be a pain --- just a thought !!!
  16. It will still be a stick -- no bucket --

  19. MFC2257 -- totally agree -- wish a few people higher up would think the same way.
  20. Obviously, its all personal preference. My brother has a mac and he likes it. I on the other hand hate macs and just bought a new inspiron from dell. Whichever one you go with I am sure you will be happy.
  21. Wow -- If you guys convicted every company when they have a big problem then there would be not one good company -- Not apple, not microsoft, noone. JetBlue had a problem and they will bounc back just like every other company.
  22. that sucks -- prob drugs
  23. I really didnt think of it that way. I was thinking more of people sending pictures on the cell phone because i would think that that is 100 % traceable. You know what I mean/? I know the pullboxes and bs that goes on. I was just thinking about the topic that we are talking about.
  24. People are not gunna send things in falsely or screw around. Im sure you know it is against the law to falsely alert the emergency system. I dont know if you were saying this or that at an accident or crim scene everyone will try to be the hero and take all sorts of pictures. In the end im sure it well help whichever organization is responding or investigating the incident. If the pictures are not helpful then they are not, but if they are helpful then that makes that call a lot easier.
