From my understanding Millwood has replaced the cutter and spreader on R-36 and matched E-248 with the same system. I am not sure what they did with the combi that was on 248. Also They added a full strut system to R-36 and an air bag system to E-248. Maybe somone who knows more can elaborate.

I wonder why they called Bcliff Rescue.....Millwood is a mile down the road with a rescue engine, which is equipped with a full compliment of hurst rescue tools.

I am curious to find out what departments with acting F.A.S.Teams carry with them when called for their F.A.S.Team. Mainly what would your team carry up to the staging area? And even if you dont carry it what do you think should be involved?........Thanks in advance

Oh man --- I am sorry that this forum is filled with such single minded people --- it should not be about age thats all i am saying -- I just feel badly that you would write somone off who may be a better firefighter than you and a better leader just because he or she is "too young" ---------- and for whoever said that you would not feel comfortable taking orders from somoeone who has been in the service less time than you have ---- well i feel sorry for you -- just because they have been in the service less than you does not mean that they are less experienced or a better leader ---- everyone needs to stop thinking whose helmet is what color and what "title" they have and fight fire ------- and be better because of it I just hope we all get home safe and no matter what differences we have -- i love you all -- happy holidays IM OUT

First let’s NOT talk generally, because this post started about a certain individual in a certain department and also i started my first post because there was a generalization of young chiefs. So the whole point is to NOT talk generally and to give whoever it may be a chance. When someone says "be leary of chiefs under 25.....very leary" - that it generalizing and that is very close minded and immature. The textbook on fire chiefs was great, but I live in the real world. I totally agree with what was in there and you are absolutely right that a good firefighter does not automatically make a good fire chief, but it is one of the necessities that a fire chief must possess. And about calls -- I don’t care about call volume - just actual fire. But we cannot just write them off immediately because they are young. See what they are all about, they may surprise you. Forget about age, and look at their capabilities and then tell me that so and so is not a good chief because they lack a certain ability, not because they dont fit into a certain age bracket.

For all of you talking about 21 - 23 being "Too Young" to be a fire chief, well i have a question. I know you base it off of experience and I absolutely agree that experience is the key to knowledge, especially in the fire service. Now what if a young man or woman decided to take a year and go join a FD in prince george county, Maryland, which a few of my fellow members have. Well now based on experience, they are way ahead of any volunteer, or for that matter even paid department in westchester county. I know of one company that has 70 working fires in their first due and countless more out second or third due etc... this year, and they dont count little room in contents fires or oil burner fires. These kids live at the firehouse and make 95% of the alarms, and they will come back richer for the experience, and now be ahead of just about any volie chief no matter how old he is. So should this person who has the knowledge and experience just sit back and not help everyone out by putting his knowledge to work just because he is 21? If you think so then you need to humble yourself and come to terms with reality. So DONT "Be leary" of a 21yo fire chief, if the company does not think he should be there then they shouldnt vote for him. but if he has the experience and knowlede (probably a lot more than you) then maybe you owe it to him or her by at least seeing why they feel they can be fire chief, then maybe they can enlighten you on their experience. Everyone needs to start worrying about themselves before they start passing judgements on others.......

When i talked to nextel they said they are having a lot of the same complaints regarding the sprint phone service.

If you dont want to read about it or participate in it then dont....... Reports: Yankees like Lowell for first base ESPN.com news services Updated: November 15, 2007, 7:51 PM ET Even as the Yankees press ahead in their talks to bring third baseman Alex Rodriguez back into the fold, free agent Mike Lowell remains a point of interest. Ron Vesely/MLB Photos via Getty Images Mike Lowell was drafted by the Yankees and broke into the majors with New York. Now the club is interested in bringing him full-circle. If anything, the Yankees are now coming at Lowell from another angle ... or corner. According to reports in the New York Post and Star Ledger of Newark, the Yankees are talking with Lowell, Boston's third baseman the last two seasons, about moving from third to first. "All I can say at this time is that the Yankees have engaged us," one of Lowell's agents, Seth Levinson, told the Post. Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein put a new contract for the World Series MVP on the table last week, a three-year offer reportedly worth in the $35 million to $45 million range. Where the Red Sox were the only team that could negotiate with Lowell through midnight on Monday, others now can make offers. It's not known if the Yankees and Lowell's agents have advanced beyond the discussion phase. Lowell followed a superlative regular season -- career highs in batting average (.324) and RBIs (120) to go with 21 home runs in 154 games -- with an outstanding October. In Boston's four-game sweep of Colorado, Lowell hit .400 (6-for-15) with four RBIs, three walks and a team-high six runs in winning He homered, doubled and scored twice in the Game 4 clincher at Denver's Coors Field. Lowell, who made $9 million last year, was selected by the Yankees in the 20th round of the 1995 amateur draft. He played eight games for New York in the 1998 season before being dealt to the Florida Marlins in February 1999. He was acquired by Boston from Florida in November 2005 in the Josh Beckett trade. It is likely that Jason Giambi will play out the final season of his Yankees contract as the team's designated hitter. First baseman Andy Phillips is returning in 2008, but Lowell, who turns 34 in February, is known for excellent defense. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. **** Now wouldnt that hurt the BoSox nation*** And also create the AL All start infield

On Cnn this morning, There was a high ranking California Fire officer who said that they just dont have the resources or personnel to handle this anymore. The containing efforts are failing just because of the vast amount of coverage area that needs to be contained. I know that The Fed Govt is sending many resources including money to help fund this effort. Hopefully there will be a change in the weather which will help them as well.

Personally I am a big foam fan. We have a truck that has the cafs system and as a pump operator it is simple but there are a lot more levers and knobs on the pump panel that it does make it intimidating. On the note of it getting "gummed up" - this will happen if you dont run your foam system and flush it once a month. As many of us know most of the time the foam just sits in the truck forever untill one day at a fire a lightbulb goes off and they decide to use it only to find out that it is clogged up. The way my dept gets around this is we do a foam drill every month and run the foam out of our trucks and systems and then flush and fill again. It does bring up the issue of wasted foam and money but it costs a heck of a lot more to get the system fixed. Something someone brought up on the foam issue is keeping the tanks empty and filling it on scene. Personally i feel that the last thing that we need to worry about is climbing on top of the truck and filling up the foam. Manpower is usually tight, and idealy we want that foam flowing immediately especially in no hydrant areas where you may be waiting for tankers.

for whoever said that they hate yankee fans because they cant accept defeat you must come from a team that loses a lot and doesnt expect much.....You should always expect your team to win -- its called being competitive and striving for the best. on another note -- the yanks need some new young solid pitching -- say goodbye to roger and moose - try and keep pettite and obviously hughes and wang -- i dont think joba will succeed as a starter and supposedly rivera wants to test the market so maybe he will be our closer (not to shabby)... Anyway i hope the steinbrenner and cashman have finally learned that solid pitching is what wins the big ones not an offense that can go sour at any point......... P.S - I think all series should be a 7 game set --- and now that my yanks are out of it -- May the best team win.....(except boston) - LOL

Amazing -- I was at the game last night as well and I dont know if you realized but when they put the score of the red sox game on the big screen they were also playing the song "We wont stop believing......." -- It was awesome while the whole place went nuts........ and i just cant wait till the end of the season when the yankees are the AL EAST CHAMPS ONCE AGAIN........

I just got the ic502 yesterday ---- I love it so far....

speaking of watchdesk -- what an amazing site -- the pg county, maryland forum is always active with very interesting topics and ideas. It is a completely diff site from this as you can imagine - this is a great site for westchester, but i guess people in westchester get there feelings hurt where as on the watcdesk you say what you want however you want.

Wow - talk about adding to the problem instead of helping it........ Lets all just slow down and MAKE SURE WE GET THERE SAFE!!!!!!! No matter what the call is maybe it would be helpful to count to 10 before you go speeding away, to give yourself a little time to relax and let the adrenaline settle. These things should never happen - its just careless.

anyone have any thoughts on tattoo me in dobbs ferry off the saw mill?

Speaking of randolph -- it takes a Yankee to make a Met -- and other than that the Mets stink -- maybe thats not allowed in this forum but i strongly dislike (hate) them --- LETS GO YANKS ......... oh and by the way - the mets will never be new yorks team.

I find it a little interesting that the bronx is burning series is showing this year. 1977 the yanks were counted out and were pretty far behind before coming back to win the world series.......

I have seen this now in numerous posts. I have heard of these badges that EMS personnel have. I have been an EMT for 2 years now and have never seen a badge. Just out of curiousity what do theses badges look like and where do people get them and why do EMS people have them. I dont see the need for EMS badges.
