  1. Drunk EMT Rants on Radio, Calls 911

Drunken dialing's always a bad idea, especially when the number you're dialing is 911.

An off-duty FDNY emergency medical technician learned that lesson firsthand yesterday morning, after she supposedly made several fake emergency calls a few hours after police wouldn't arrest a bartender she thought had wronged her.

Pamela Falco, 48, was "out cocktailing in the Bay Street area" Wednesday night, according to a police source. Around last call, a bartender took her car keys, afraid she might get behind the wheel drunk, the source said.

Ms. Falco called the police at about 5 a.m. yesterday, telling them the bartender had assaulted her, according to court papers. But the officers who responded soon realized she was telling tales and wouldn't arrest him.

About an hour later, she made her way to her emergency band radio, and started ranting - on an NYPD frequency - about the quality and intelligence of Staten Island cops, the source said.

"Staten Island cops know nothing!" she allegedly said over a restricted radio band, according to court papers.

By 7 a.m., she had made her way to a pay phone near her Maryland Avenue home in Rosebank, and that's when she started calling 911, cops allege.

In a span of maybe 10 minutes, she made three bogus calls - two of them reporting that someone had jumped into Lower New York Bay, and a third reporting that a man with a knife had stolen her purse on Hylan Boulevard at Bay Street, according to the police source.

The man-in-the-water calls drew a massive response from police and the FDNY, who searched the bay near Edgewater Street for close to an hour, looking for a drowning man.

The Advance reported the police response to both incidents on its Web site, silive.com. Court papers don't detail the bogus water rescue call, but they describe another phony emergency cops say Ms. Falco concocted at about 7:40 a.m. That time, she claimed that someone took her purse at gunpoint.

Cops were able to trace the calls to the pay phone, and when they arrived, Ms. Falco was still there, the source said.

"I guess her hangover was still with her," the source said.

Ms. Falco is charged with reckless endangerment, falsely reporting an incident and obstructing government administration.

An FDNY spokesman confirmed that Ms. Falco works as an EMT for the department, but wouldn't say where.

So far, the spokesman said, no disciplinary action has been taken against her, but FDNY officials will investigate the incident.

Ms. Falco has been an EMT for about two years, the police source said.

She's expected to be arraigned today in Stapleton Criminal Court.

Way to go! Don't worry Fire Service, EMS is right there with ya in giving ourselves a black eye!:rolleyes:

  2. Jets ticket holder sues Patriots, Belichick

Class action suit for 'deceiving customers' seeks damages of $184 million

NEW YORK - A New York Jets season-ticket holder filed a class-action lawsuit Friday against the New England Patriots and coach Bill Belichick for “deceiving customers.”

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Newark, N.J., by Carl Mayer of Princeton Township, N.J., stems from the Patriots being caught illegally videotaping signals from Jets coaches in New England’s 38-14 season-opening win Sept. 9.

“They violated the integrity of the game,” Mayer’s attorney, Bruce Afran, told The Associated Press. “This is a way of punishing Belichick and the Patriots.”

Mayer is seeking more than $184 million in damages for Jets ticket holders.

Belichick was fined $500,000 by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and the team was fined $250,000 for violating a league rule that prohibits clubs from using a video camera on the sidelines for any purpose — including recording signals relayed to opposing players on the field. New England also must forfeit a first-round draft pick next year if it makes the playoffs or a second- and third-rounder if it doesn’t.

“They were deceiving customers,” said the 48-year-old Mayer. “You can’t deceive customers.”

The lawsuit maintained that because other teams found illegal videotaping by the defendants, Jets ticket holders should be compensated for all games played in Giants Stadium between the Jets and Patriots since Belichick became head coach in 2000.

The two calculated that because customers paid $61.6 million to watch eight “fraudulent” games, they’re entitled to triple that amount — or $184.8 million — in compensation under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act and the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act.

“How many times have the Patriots done this? We find it hard to believe they did it just once,” Mayer said. “We just want to get to the truth of the matter of what the Patriots did to the Jets. I think the ticket holders are genuinely concerned about it. This is a type of misrepresentation.”

Patriots spokesman Stacey James declined to comment on the lawsuit.

Mayer and Afran, who consider themselves public interest lawyers, have been thorns in the side of New Jersey politicians for years, filing lawsuits and demanding investigations to advance their grievances. They are well known in the state but generally have had little success in their causes.

Both have lost bids for elected offices, and Mayer once served as a presidential campaign adviser to Ralph Nader.

Their demand in March for a probe of Gov. Jon S. Corzine’s gifts to a former girlfriend was rejected by a federal prosecutor. In 2006, a judge vetoed their effort to block Corzine’s appointment of Rep. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., to fill the governor’s seat in the U.S. Senate.

They also failed to get a court to order a special election to replace Gov. James E. McGreevey when he resigned in 2004.

Now, they’re taking on the Patriots.

Their latest lawsuit asserted that the secret videotaping violated the contractual “expectations and rights” of Jets ticket holders “to observe an honest match played in compliance with all laws and regulations.”

  3. Nice shots Oswegowind..... You had better seats than me! Here's something from my old photo's.... A panoramic shot of the opening ceremonies of Game #2 of the 2003 World Series - The Yanks against Boston......

Great shot! But how can it be the World Series if it's the Yanks vs. Beantown? Doesn't there have to be a National League team in there??

  5. A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be part of a highly successful photo trip in conjuction with the Fire and Cop Shop Open House. A great time on Friday on a photo tour of Eastern Operations area of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, then a tour of Riverside County area facilities on Saturday. Thanks to everyone I was with those 2 days.

On Sunday, after breakfast I took off looking for a couple of safety fair/open houses in the northeast LA County region. I missed one, as I got into the area after they shut down, but got a few more photos in Claremont and then South Pasadena.

With the fire in Big Bear, I headed for the air tanker base in San Bernardino. I got a lot of good shots both of the base personnel loading the planes and planes in the air.

Photos have been loaded into the following albums at my Photobucket site.

    Los Angeles County Fire Department
