  3. Thanks guys, I was working my backside off regarding the fires in San Diego County. I actually talked to Truck 4 via message on the EMTBravoWest forums. But here are some answers to your questions....

    QUOTE

No details were immediately available about the death in San Diego County, but four firefighters and four other people were injured and taken to hospitals

    Hopefully its not a FF

4 firefighters were burned over in the Harris Fire, which is in the southeastern portion of San Diego County near a community named Potrero. The fatality (as of now) was civilian. 1 firefighter is reported to be in critical condition at the UCSD Burn Center in San Diego. The number of injured was unknown at the time I left work at 1800. The department the firefighters are assigned to has not been released yet.

The are currently 6 significant fires burning in Southern California tonight. Here's a recap...

Los Angeles County-Malibu and Agua Dulce (East of the area of 6 Flags Magic Mountain)

Santa Barbara County-The Sedgewick Fire, in Santa Ynez near where the Zaca Fire burned earlier this summer

Riverside County- In the area of Agua, in the Southeastern area near the San Diego County line.

San Diego County-The Witch Fire, Started this afternoon between Santa Ysabel and Ramona-as I type this reported to be between 8,000 and 10,000 acres.

The Harris Fire-also 8,000-10,000 acres as described above.

While it's busy, this is not quite like 2003, where the Cedar Fire by this time had already burned 75,000 acres and killed 12 people.

Strike Teams (5 Engines and a Team Leader) from Northern California have been ordered and reported to be on the road. I'm on nights this week, so I'll be on the lookout for interesting engines to photograph.

For some reason I am no longer able to access the forums at work (they really limit what we have access to). Otherwise, this all would have been posted long ago.

  4. What a STUPID idea. First there are no NFL teams in England. Second, as was so aptly pointed out, this will do nothing for the US economy.

And finally, assuming the game starts at 8 PM (London time), that means the east coast is watching the game at 3 PM and the left coast is watching at NOON - when do you start the party? For breakfast?

    Chris,

When I was in the Air Force in Korea the start time for the game was 0430. The Base Commander let us all off duty (I just slept in), but we had to be back at our duty stations by 1100. AND no alcohol.

I just don't see this. The Super Bowl has become America's biggest corporate party. John Q. Public can't get in for the most part, and the NFL thinks that corporate America is going to go to London, Madrid or Berlin to watch it? Ain't gonna happen :rolleyes:

  5. Last night I5 at State Hwy 14 in the southbound truck route tunnel, major accident with fire involving at least 15 semi trucks. Fire burned so hot it may have caused damage to the tunnel structure. I5 still closed tonight with LA County Fire still pulling debris out of the tunnel. Today it was announced 2 DOA and 10 injured. Reports of cement in the tunnel being damaged by the fire kep firefighters in a defensive mode and did not enter the tunnel until this morning. Mutual Aid from LAFD and various Verdugo dispatched departments.

  6. In all seriousness, if Torre is fired, my #1 choice would be Donnie Baseball.

And in all seriousness, who would want to manage for Superjerk?? I understand some people believe in tradition (like the Yankees and Dodgers), but I don't see a lot of people wanting the job because of George. As was said on ESPN, it'll be like the late 80's when no one wanted to be a Yankee.

  7. I love Joe Torre, and I hope he sticks around. If he doesn't, I can think of 3 guys that would be good replacements.

    1. Don Mattingly

    2. Joe Gerardi

    3. Remember585

And if God forbid someone must replace Bob Shepard, I vote Oswegowind

  8. Please send your thoughts and prayers to the family, friends and brothers/sisters of Heavy Fire Equipment Operator Matthew Richard Will of the CalFire Hollister Air Attack Base, San Benito Monterey Unit. HFEO Will died this morning of injuries suffered when his dozer overturned during operations on the Colorado Fire in Monterey County yesterday.

    CAL-Fire LODD Announcement

Thoughts and prayers to HFEO Will's family and fellow Firefighters. May he Rest in Peace.

  9. Thanks Tribe for sending the Yanks home for the winter....Go Sox!

What's sad about this is that jerk of an owner will screw up a good thing and get rid of one of the best managers in the majors. Why not understand it was those leeches that you pay to play that screwed the season up??:rolleyes:

  10. Jimmy,

I have seen some of your photos that you've posted, don't sell yourself short. You do just fine....

As for my equipment, the camera bag and digital are always in the car. 3 Canon AE-1s with a 20-80mm zoom and a 70-210mm zoom. I can't count how many times I have driven past a rig parked at a supermarket or something like that and have gone back for photos.

    Duane

Well, I can say they were in my Explorer   I was on a photo trip in Phoenix since Wednesday. While at breakfast this morning (Sunday), someone broke into my explorer and stole my camera bag, scanner and the grocery bag with used and unused film in it. As I could not secure the car (they broke 1 window and only grabbed what they could reach) and was supposed to head down to Tucson, I called Phoenix PD, gave a phone report and headed home. Unfortunately, the explorer is a 2 door, and the middle window cannot be fixed by a mobile repairman.

As much as this first felt like a kick to the cajones, I have come to the realization I am very lucky that this was all they took. My digital camera (it's a pocket size camera) and my Palm were on the front passenger seat, and my laptop in the back cargo area. The accounts I would have had to close tomorrow if those had been taken would have given me an even bigger headache than the one I have now due to driving 300+ miles with an open window. My only regret is the 7 rolls of undeveloped film. There were shots I just couldn't get with the digital, so I used the 35mm.

Gone are 3 Canon AE-1 bodies, 2 20mm-80mm zoom lenses, 1 70mm-210mm zoom, a doubler, and a power winder. The bright side of this will be with the replacement money I should have enough for a digital SLR finally.

As for any upcoming trips and photo opportunities, we'll see how long my insurance takes with the replacement money.

  11. Well, the gagging you hear from Coors Field in Denver is my own Padres. I'm going on vacation for photos to the Phoenix area on Wednesday, and this clears my nights instead of trying to find someplace to watch the games. How considerate of them :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Now, as my Chargers can't seem to find their game either, we in San Diego won't have to waste our money on cheesey championship t-shirts or hats.
