Cable customers are going to see this more and more. Fox vs Time-Warner Cable Systems is the first salvo. Cable systems are attempting to keep their costs down for their subscribers, while networks are trying to get "fair market value" for their shows. However, with ad revenues down across the nation for both TV and radio, it's hard to justify paying those fees.

I posted a LODD for FDNY FF Jim Ryan the other day, and in the article I linked it was stated his death was related to his actions on 9/11. Now I'm reading that he has been denied a Department Funeral and his death is not 9/11 related? Firefighter Nation Link

Date: 12-26-2009 Time: 0115 PST Location: 1000 Block North Highland Ave Hollywood Departments: LAFD, LAPD, Los Angeles Department of Animal Services Description: On Saturday, December 26, 2009 at 1:08 AM, 8 Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, 4 LAFD Rescue Ambulances, 1 Arson Unit, 1 Urban Search and Rescue Unit, 1 Hazardous Materials Team, 2 EMS Battalion Captains, 4 Battalion Chief Officer Command Teams and 1 Division Chief Officer Command Team, under the direction of Battalion Chief Ralph Ramirez, responded to a Structure Fire at 1014 North Highland Avenue in Hollywood. Firefighters arrived in less than four minutes to find heavy smoke billowing from a 2,500 square-foot, one-story commercial building doing business as LA Dogworks, a self-described "retreat for dogs". Firefighters rapidly deployed handlines through the dark, smoke filled building, navigating their way to a rear mezzanine where the bulk of flames were located. The intense fire burned through the roof, but firefighters were able performed strategic vertical ventilation on the arched truss roof to release heat and gasses. These actions, combined with the building's elaborate HVAC system, provided clean air for canines to breathe. Links: http://lafd.org/blog Writer: RescueKujo

Out here in the West the same thing is happening. People, and this includes elected officials, believe public safety employees are overpaid. The local fishwrap in San Diego, publishes the top 100 salaries for the City of San Diego every year. Firefighters hold at least 3 of the top 10 every year. But no one points out the OT and pay from strike teams to campaign fires or members being on State or Federal Incident management teams, and how that pay is paid back to the city by that respective agency. Unions need to do a better job of educating their officials on what their members get in their benefits and why. The life expectancy after retirement of both police officers and firefighters needs to be part of that education. I know its apples and oranges, but out here there are paramedic programs, fire academies and police academies run by the community colleges. And a lot of colleges are now giving credits for work related courses, so my opinion is any extended course is like going to college, especially as tough as the grading can be...

Things like this are interesting...San Diego Fire is about to start brownouts in "dual apparatus houses", which I believe means that the Captain in the station will have the decision as to whether to take the engine or the truck depending on the type of response. Like I said, it's gonna get interesting....

Alex, Remember where ICS got it's start...in our wildland fires in the 70's...we train and train on this and do use it for many things. ICS/NIMS are great tools and can be modified to use for almost any large scale event. I've seen it used for expos and open houses. Also, just as an aside, I have a friend in the Seattle area who said the temp this morning was 9 degrees. Duane

What I heard the spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office say was they were going to his friends/families homes and checking for him. If something was amiss or they had evidence they were "harboring a fugitive", they would be arrested and it would go on like this until Clemmons is on his own... I hope he has not been able to seek medical help for his wounds and he is dying or has died a horrible death from the wounds...
