  2. Izz-AHA revises it's instructional standards every 5 years... As an instructor, I've only heard about the changes, I have not seen the literature. That said, it takes approximately 8 compressions to prime the pump (heart), getting it to full capacity. Any stoppage in compressions you have to reprime the heart. That was the stated reason for the change to 30 compressions some time ago. As to the change to compression only CPR, it is felt that while doing compressions the change in the pressure in the chest cavity you are moving air in and out, rescue breathing only supplements that. It'll be interesting to actually hear about this when I go to the update meeting...
  3. Out here we get folks that think it's okay to use a barbeque to heat the house, not knowing (or not caring) that the charcol put out carbon monoxide, which can kill everyone in the house...

  6. I remember watching a television show, it may have been Monster Quest, where the head of the reptile section of the Miami Zoo stated that a lot of these invasive species were lost out of the zoos during Hurricane Andrew due to the surge that basically went across the state. What may be in the Everglades and lower Florida are the "children" of those lost in 1994....
  7. The pink rigs you guys in Florida saw were from the Pink Heals Tour - Guardians of The Ribbon Group. This is a group of firefighters who started a fundraising group for breast cancer. They have numerous apparatus, which are named after breast cancer patients. Here's a couple links to their websites... Pink Heals Link #1 Pink Heals Link #2
  8. and that type of comment is exactly why terrorist groups continue to attack us. They watch and know that the American public stays vigilant and angry for only a certain period of time, then gets complacient as they believe "nothing" has happened since the last attack. The Government is not going to announce every time one of their agencies thwarts another terrorist attack. The ones that get publicized are like the failed aircraft bombings by the "shoe" bomber and the "underwear" bomber, where a number of citizens witnessed the situation and it will hit the news. there are many "homegrown" groups wanting to violently take down the United States. It's not just turban wearing prayer mat sitting Muslims. They are one of many groups, so when someone starts talking about terrorist attacks on US soil, they should not be the only ones identified.

  18. That is like here in San Diego. Airport has been there since about 1930 (the airport is on the land Lindbergh first tested The Spirit of St Louis), and back in the 70s folks to the west filed lawsuits. The airport authority settled, retrofitting many homes with better windows that blocked out sound, and soundproofed the homes. The folks living there still complain, and most of those have bought their homes in the last 30 years...You would think as busy as Lindbergh Field (San Diego International) is that jets would have flown over as they were looking at the home...

  22. good luck Mr Phelps...your mission, should you choose to accept it.... San Diego FD got one of the first TDAs that Crimson built...it's been out of service more than in service. Anaheim FD got 2, they are having some of the same problems as SDFD...I understand that it may be the specs, but as I understand most of the issues result from the build...
