  1. Seth, Take it from a SoCal guy, In-n-Out is addicting. If you haven't already, try the fries "animal style", like the double-double. sauce, grilled onions and cheese on the fries. If the burger had not starting clogging the arteries, the fries will!! Crown had 2 divisions at the factory in Fontana, the Firecoach division and the bus. When Crown was sold and closed in 1983, a company bought the rights to parts and service contracts. As far as I know, they're still doing servicing. Seth, let me know next time and I'll make sure to get wherever you are, buddy. Duane
  2. I think this one's going to come out entirely different from what some people think. In talking to a firefighter from the area familiar with what happened that day, here are some things besides the "jake brake" that may be determining factors... 1) In leaving their station in Moreno Valley on a cover assignment to Beaumont, it was not raining at that time. Just prior to the accident, the crew entered a downpour with limited visibility. The words to descibe it were "like parting a curtain and entering a waterfall". 2) The crew was in a nonenclosed backup engine. The firefighter who died was in the jumpseat (not sure if behind the Engineer or Captain). I'm sure things will shake out. Unfortunately, I feel this is a result of 1) out litigous society and 2) our society's willingness to play up the victim role. People feel there has to be some way to make them feel better, but is this it? I'm sorry folks, but sometimes no matter what you do, crap happens. It's a shame when it does, but the result is still the same.
  3. Good job, guys. Recently joined the site, still working my way around. I like what I see so far.
  4. Out here on the left coast the departments here in San Diego County all refer to the "driver" as the Engineer.
  5. Yesterday, over 10,000 people paid their respects to the 5 USFS Firefighters who lost their lives that fateful morning. The service was punctuated with a flyover, first of 3 air tankers, then a 2nd wave of helicopters from different agencies. Many state and federal officals attended. May God bless you and your families Mark, Jess, Jason, Daniel and Pablo. May you watch over your fellow firefighters as they continue the job you all loved so much.
  6. Hi there, another West Coaster joins the board... I've seen a few friends here from other boards. I've enjoyed meeting a few on trips and other events. From the West Coast (San Diego area) and I am a Dispatcher/EMT for AMR San Diego. I have worked for them and their predecessor Hartson Medical Services 17 years (18 this coming May). Because of this company, I have been privileged to work a Major League Baseball All-Star game, 2 World Series games, and a Super Bowl. Was an EMT for 12 years, then went into dispatch for the last 5 years. Due to working at Hartson's. I was able to get onto a local race track fire crew (stock cars) and worked there for 12 years. Became very proficient with the extrication tools, and was the lead EMT for 3 years. Was part of the fire crew for the Sprint Car World Series in 1993-1994 out of Phoenix. I was a Volunteer Fireman for 7 years, working my way up to Captain in charge of EMS. I am an avid apparatus photographer. I currently have almost 5,000 in my photobucket account. Take a look and enjoy!
