I would love to see these crews' wildland cards. Even if "only doing structure protection" they're within the fire lines, and they should have to have the same qualifications as regularly employed firefighters to be there.

Cpage, Thanks for sharing the photo. I always love seeing classics rigs.

People keep track???

When will people ever learn.... This goes back to those "bars banned in firehouses" threads. While there are policies in place to keep people from responding or driving a department vehicle after consuming alcohol, too many people just can't control themselves and made bad decisions. What would have happened if this LT had been in a collision returning to the station? First, most likely the department would have been without a needed piece of apparatus. Second, someone, either from the department or civilian would have been seriously unjured or even killed It's not worth anyone's life to drive under the influence.

I am absolutely speechless. What a way to service your citizens.

Thanks for the update, Truck 4. Glad to see some common sense prevailed.

Seth, Rather than this being a regional or local problem, I believe this is a country wide problem. When the White paper was published in the late 60's, it tasked local county governments to run EMS. I don't think they still, after 30 years, know what to do with it. Many have created an EMS agency, others run it under Health and Human Services, but almost all will not fund it as it needs it. And once again, it is the politician's contituents suffer.
-
It doesn't matter where in this country you live, most politicians have their priorities in the wrong order when it comes to spending. At the local level, Human Services should come 1st. And within that group, public safety should be #1. When will they get that through their heads?? The safety of their population is their responsibility, not another organization. But as we all know, nothing will happen until one of their own family members are impacted by a long response.

Interesting. I know we're planning on replacing the "bus" we use for our Medical Units on our Wildland contracts. Plus, after our little inhouse disaster drill last week, we may be looking for something like this.

Seth, I don't know if it's the same show, but something like this was on FoxReality recently. It was out of the LACo Sheriff's Academy. Great show. We all watched it here in dispatch.

I have a question for Seth, How come in some threads you can edit, and others you can't? For example, in the Michael Graco thread, you cannot edit your post. But in either of the FDNY LODD threads, you can. Just wondering if this is a bug or just a who knows? Thanks Duane

Yeah, but Jimmy, would one of FDNY finest break the windows to get the supply line to that hydrant???

Seth, I think we all feel the same way...it's our pleasure to help out such a worthy cause. Duane

While I agree that we need to support the troops (former USAF), the public does not live in reality, they live in perception. And if they see a government vehicle with a group of protesters, they're going to think that the city, or that agency also take that stance, popular or not. It is best to take the high road, support the cause off duty, and don't cause waves that could impact your agency. I know this is hypocrisy, when your civic leaders can and will request you for parades and such, but life isn't fair. Sorry.

Sexual assault criminals have the highest percent of repeat offenses, if I remember right. I realize there are still rights that cover these "people", but BFD182 is correct. Lock these criminals up and throw away the key. There is no way that their victims will ever be the same.

firefighter 70, First of all, thank you for your service. From what I've read, Afghanistan is hell for our Soldiers and Marines due to the terrain you describe. And to add about your note about the tribes, remember, these people fought along side Osama against the Russians in the 80's. Do you think they'll turn him over? Someone mentioned Vietnam and the direction from politicians. How can our Generals devise a plan, when Congress attempts to undermine any plans by either the Commander-in-Chief and the Generals. Now on the subject, it is my understanding that you cannot demonstrate on duty and no public vehicles can be used.
