  1. I heard on the news here that the San Diego Harbor Police and USCG Station San Diego are getting the same type of boats.
  2. Thought I'd post this for EMTBravo/X635.... See, that's all the American carriers need to do...
  3. Only if you drive a FORD....
  4. You know, this would all be a moot point if qwomen wouldn't take seriously whats being poked in fun
  5. HMMMM, frosting.... Thanks for sharing, Jonesey. Nothing wrong with showing off your little ones.-Duane
  6. Wow, Seth. I'm sorry to hear that. So much for serving the public, huh?? Did she happen to get a badge number or name so she can file a complaint with the precinct??
  7. Seth, Please do not let these naysayers get to you. Anybnody, with any agency, doesn't want the bad things from that agency aired in public. It's just natural as a human. It takes a lot of restraint to allow open discussion of the agency you bust your butt for.
  8. I hear you Sean, it seems to be that way when I travel with my family anymore...
  9. Seth, it is my understanding that if there are no ideatifiers for the patient (name, birthdate, address etc.), then it is not a violation. There is nothing that can be done if someone is familiar with the call or person (s) involved.
  10. With the increase of cases where prisoners go into cardiac arrest after being placed in custody due to "Excited delirium", every department using tasers should look at their policies. If the patient is so out of control that they must be tased, for liability sake I would get them to an ER for eval. Egg on one's face after the person in custody codes isn't pretty.
  11. This is being played out here in San Diego with the brawl/riot this past Monday. The media only shows the officers entering the crowd and going after the group, only one has shown the bottles and other objects being thrown at the officers. This was a case of young males with lots of liquid courage and testosterone who thought they owned the beach. 2 groups of these idiots started fighting over the particular part of the beach and SDPD moved in. Then, when it all played out, the media is blasting the police for being stormtroopers.
  12. Jimmy, great shots as usual. And I agree, with both roto-rays and Mars lights, those fronts look too cluttered.
  13. How many times will we as senior people say it, tunnel vision gets people seriously injured or killed. As a responder, you do no one any good if you don't get to the scene. Drive safely and arrive. enough said.
  14. Thanks for sharing. Interesting to see those old Wards and ALFs
  15. Less than 900 to go...
  16. Merlin, I live in an area where our fire medics are paid for in our property taxes. If you are a citizen in the service area, your insurance is billed and they take that as payment. If you are not a citizen, if your insurance does not cover the entire bill, you get billed for the remainder.
  17. Great post, RWC. Unfortunately, I feel too many people will not see a problem. For example, my company makes sure everyone goes to EVOC, but does not have in my opinion a good class in how to read a map. We get phone calls about our crews driving in circles when they cannot find the street they're responding to.
  18. Sounds like a story that needs to be told....
  19. Upon further review and calculations from the GAO and Congressional Budget Office, I'm revising me estimate to September 9th at 1:35 p.m.
  20. There's another fire term that has a double entendre, but the better part of valor keeps me from posting it...
  21. Do we need a new forum called "News that shines unfavorably on Public Safety?"
  22. Baby, Don't worry about the sarcasm. That and the gallows humor are how most of us get by. Everyone gets cynical after a period of time in this profession after dealing with the "noble citizens" that we tend to see.
  23. Way to go guys! Congratulations!
  24. This gentleman made some very good points. But beyond health and safety issues, the big thing also needs to be education. How many people entering the fire service know the difference in contruction types? I know it's anecdoctal, but my supervisor's husband in a 28 year firefighter. He was telling us about a fire where one of the newer firefighters (he didn't say his experience level) was told not to stand in a certain location. When he continued to stand there, he was grabbed and pulled out of there. As this was happening, the roof came down right where he had been standing. he turned to Warren and asked how he knew. You need to have an education to do this job.
  25. Babyheart, You can be on the most serene scene and have it go sideways in a heartbeat. As was said before, expect the unexpected. It is ultimately up to you to watch out for yourself. Now that I'm in dispatch, I can't tell you how many times I've been asked by the crews why I didn't tell them to standback/stage. There are certain things that are an absolute standback/stage for Sheriff or PD, but after a while the crews should have enough street sense to know when to do that.
