  1. Mike, The "X" in X-Ray come from UXO, for unexploded ordnance. Paul, the MAST unit is a combinded SDPD/SDFD team. They run 3-4 runs a day. The bomb squad tech comes from that team.
  2. Until now, SDFD has tended to be low key with their Bomb Squad/MAST (Metro Arson Strike Team) units/teams. The call sign for the unit is X-Ray 1, hence the XR1.
  3. San Diego Fire's new Bomb Squad rig has arrived. On a Pierce Arrow XT chassis like LAPD's Bomb Squad and SWAT rigs, with minor differences. I will hopefully have a photo tour soon. But this should whet an appetite or 2...

  6. Chris, When I was in the Air Force in Korea the start time for the game was 0430. The Base Commander let us all off duty (I just slept in), but we had to be back at our duty stations by 1100. AND no alcohol. I just don't see this. The Super Bowl has become America's biggest corporate party. John Q. Public can't get in for the most part, and the NFL thinks that corporate America is going to go to London, Madrid or Berlin to watch it? Ain't gonna happen
  7. For those who haven't seen one, here's a couple of shots of M155 of the Glendale Arizona FD. I have been told AMR has purchased some, running in our divisions in Las Vegas and Las Cruces, New Mexico. I'll be in Vegas in a few weeks, so I'll try to get a few shots.
  8. 8-1 bottom of the 5th- Go SOX!

  10. Great shots, Jimmy. Thanks for sharing.
  11. Somebody's in a heap of trouble. I heard a chief ask about an ambulance out here once, he sounded incredulous that a private ambulance would dare run code in his city.
  12. And in all seriousness, who would want to manage for Superjerk?? I understand some people believe in tradition (like the Yankees and Dodgers), but I don't see a lot of people wanting the job because of George. As was said on ESPN, it'll be like the late 80's when no one wanted to be a Yankee.
  13. Please send your thoughts and prayers to the family, friends and brothers/sisters of Heavy Fire Equipment Operator Matthew Richard Will of the CalFire Hollister Air Attack Base, San Benito Monterey Unit. HFEO Will died this morning of injuries suffered when his dozer overturned during operations on the Colorado Fire in Monterey County yesterday. CAL-Fire LODD Announcement Thoughts and prayers to HFEO Will's family and fellow Firefighters. May he Rest in Peace.
  14. Thanks for the words of encouragement, guys... And Photo, just remember the motto...Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you
  15. And if God forbid someone must replace Bob Shepard, I vote Oswegowind
  16. Thanks Tribe for sending the Yanks home for the winter....Go Sox! What's sad about this is that jerk of an owner will screw up a good thing and get rid of one of the best managers in the majors. Why not understand it was those leeches that you pay to play that screwed the season up??
  17. The article doesn't expand on her knowledge and training, but without a doubt, no one except a trained officer should have a weapon on any school grounds.
  18. Well, I can say they were in my Explorer   I was on a photo trip in Phoenix since Wednesday. While at breakfast this morning (Sunday), someone broke into my explorer and stole my camera bag, scanner and the grocery bag with used and unused film in it. As I could not secure the car (they broke 1 window and only grabbed what they could reach) and was supposed to head down to Tucson, I called Phoenix PD, gave a phone report and headed home. Unfortunately, the explorer is a 2 door, and the middle window cannot be fixed by a mobile repairman. As much as this first felt like a kick to the cajones, I have come to the realization I am very lucky that this was all they took. My digital camera (it's a pocket size camera) and my Palm were on the front passenger seat, and my laptop in the back cargo area. The accounts I would have had to close tomorrow if those had been taken would have given me an even bigger headache than the one I have now due to driving 300+ miles with an open window. My only regret is the 7 rolls of undeveloped film. There were shots I just couldn't get with the digital, so I used the 35mm. Gone are 3 Canon AE-1 bodies, 2 20mm-80mm zoom lenses, 1 70mm-210mm zoom, a doubler, and a power winder. The bright side of this will be with the replacement money I should have enough for a digital SLR finally. As for any upcoming trips and photo opportunities, we'll see how long my insurance takes with the replacement money.
  19. It is daily and I believe updates when the lotto winner is picked.
  20. Happy Birthday. Hope its a good one....
  21. Sox win! Sox win! So, everyone (D-Backs, Rockies, Tribe and Sox) all are up 2-0 in their series. It'll be interesting to see how these series' play out.
  22. Way to go! Don't worry Fire Service, EMS is right there with ya in giving ourselves a black eye!
  23. just bought tonight's ticket and saw a ticket is now 10 points. Man, inflation is tough these days. You stay off the board for 36 hours, and Seth picks your wallet
  24. Doc, you must have turned it off before Colorado came back in the bottom of the 13th. 9-8 Rockies.
  25. Well, the gagging you hear from Coors Field in Denver is my own Padres. I'm going on vacation for photos to the Phoenix area on Wednesday, and this clears my nights instead of trying to find someplace to watch the games. How considerate of them Now, as my Chargers can't seem to find their game either, we in San Diego won't have to waste our money on cheesey championship t-shirts or hats.
