I don't have any idea as I always felt with as many cars as there are in California I wouldn't want to ride a motorcycle around here. So I've never pursued a motorcycle license. Now, a Firefighter's endorsement or Ambulance Driver's license (privately employed Medics and EMTs must have one, not firefighters) I can tell you the hell you go through for those....This was my renewal year and had to take 4 separate tests at DMV

We had a fatal motorcycle collision last night where it has been reported that the rider was doing 130 m.p.h. before striking the back of a SUV. Per a traffic investigator I know the rider "didn't even have time to say ouch". The big thing around here is to do "tricks" on the freeway. I've even witnessed it, wheelies, standing on the seat, etc. I called CHP immediately and got a dispatcher right away (doesn't happen all that often). Even with me watching there were no available units to pursue these guys. They make the road dangerous for all other drivers.

Seth We have this on my EOD Community forums. It lists all the Techs, Civilian and Military who have died in the Line of Duty. It is Titled "Never Forget". A photo with a brief biography to include the incident that they were on when killed is posted. Then others may post rememberences of the fallen Tech. It is a great way to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
-
Congrats, Jack. Must have impressed the heck out of Seth to be moving up that quickly.

Prayers and condolences to the family and fellow officers of the Fallen. May God help them through this terrible tragedy.

I saw this story on the news tonight. The Comm Center Manager stated this guy's calls amounted to 30% of their call volume last year. 30%?? Were they thinking they might give him a gold star rather than doing something about this? At what point did they think it was excessive? I'd say after the first 100 have someone talk to this guy...

I would wonder if photos like that would crimp a work related cancer claim? I could hear it now...." I was a firefighter for XZY Fire Department and was exposed to fires, smoke and the particulant matter in the aftereffects of such". And the claim adjuster (or whatever you call them) "Yeah, but on this fire you have your SCBA on but not using it. By this photo I gather that was your standard. Claim disallowed!"

When I was a volunteer, here's what I kept in my turnouts... Coat pockets 1 medium sized mag light 1 window punch 2 6' lengths of strap (knotted to 3' loops) 1 mini Mag light (rather than pen light for EMS runs) 1 Leatherman pocket knife and in my pants pocket-a folding spanner wrench

Okay, I finally can add to this from the left coast.... At 3 p.m. today it was 45 degrees in downtown San Diego with rain. Snow was falling at the 2000' level, with some of the major back county roads closed. This was supposed to be just some "drizzle" from the marine layer (fog) this morning, but turned into a full winter storm. AS I type this it has already blown through the coastal areas and by morning will be out of the mountains heading towards Arizona.

Gee thanks, Seth. John's old?? What the heck does that make me and the other members over 45?? John, congrats and I hope your day is special. Duane

I still remember getting ready for school or on my way to school the mornings that the deaths Jim Croce, Lynard Skynard and the lead singer of Chicago were announced.

A 911 operator in Austin Texas is under review for his handling of a kidnapping call from the 5 year old victim's 10 year old sister. The Assistant Police Chief describes the operator as being "unduly harsh" with the sister. Below is the link to the article. There are links to listen to the phone call. http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news...dispatcher.html

Paramedics Michael T. Sanchez, Raul Garcia, and Pilot Robert Goss perished when their Valley AirCare EMS helicopter crashed into a bay off the South Coast of Texas near Brownsville on Tuesday night. The helicopter was reportedly en-route from Harlingen to South Padre Island for the medical evacuation of a patient from the Port Isabel Convention Center. The crew aborted the mission due to weather and shortly thereafter lost communications, according to a Coast Guard media release. May they Rest In Peace. Prayers and condolences to their families. A oress conference has just concluded at the scene. Earlier this morning, the suspect fired upon members of the LAPD SWAT Team and members of the LAFD who were attempting to protect surrounding exposures after the house the suspect was in caught fire, possibly after flashbang grenades were put into the structure. SWAT Team members returned fire, the suspect went down, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
-
Hey Guys and Gals, The exhibit and classroom portion of the conference started today. I spent part of the day in my SPAAMFA group's booth, and the rest of the time taking photos. I renewed many friendships from around the San Diego County area so I can photograph their departments. Here's a sampling of Day 1.... 1) New California OES Type 3 from Rosenbauer 2) New Los Angeles FD Medic Rig 3) Sacramento Metro FD Type 3 Brush Rig 4) Ventura County FD ALF Engine 57 more to follow....
-
From the floor, more photos.... 1) The rear of the Ca OES Rig from Rosenbauer. Guess LAFD and LACoFD aren't the only ones going to chevrons.... 2) Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department Brush 177 3) Viejas Fire Department Brush 25 4) Ca OES Swift Water Rescue Staffed by the Stockton Fire Department 5) Front of the new E-one model, The Quest. Butt ugly if you ask me...
-
Day 2-more photos and more local rigs outside of the convention center. No other LAFD rigs. Unfortunately, because of the way the dealers/manufacturers position tillers, it is almost impossible at a conference like this to take photos while they are being demo'ed. AS rigs are being taken out tomorrow, I will try to get photos of the aerials. So for now, here's a few from today... Local rigs at the convention center today.. 1) Federal Fire Department San Diego Truck 7 2) Federal Fire Department San Diego Engine 6 3) National City Fire Department Engine 34 4) MCAS Miramar Fire Department Engine 61
