  1. BFU-506- did that end up with West Hamilton Beach Fire? Thought I remember seeing it working a brush fire sometime in late 2003?
  2. There are 3 gators. They are John Deere, TH series, diesel powered, 6x4 drive. 2 are equipped with removable "Med-Beds" designed to transport one patient as well as 2 other personel and a driver. The third unit is equipped with a 65 gallon Darley skid unit. Run by a Briggs & Stratton 10 HP engine and a 25 gpm pump. Has a 3/4" 15' booster reel as well as 2-1.5" outlets. Unit has the ability to fill and pump from draft. The gators also are all equiped with 2500lb winches, that are removable and can be used on the front or rear of the unit. They also have locking differentials, that make running in the mud and steep grades easier, but steering is almost impossible. The EMS gators run as a pair in one trailer and the Fire gator runs as a single unit. In the Fire gator trailer, there is a assortment of brush fire tools and forestry hose and a utility trailer that can be towed by any of the 3.
  3. I know of a tool called an "Eckert hook". Used by the FDNY truck companies-(I believe mostly the mid-town trucks ?)- to open up HVAC ducts, exhaust systems, and metal ceilings. It looks like a hawks bill, sharpened on top to push up into the material, and teeth on the bottom edge to cut as you pull down. I have used one in training and with a little practice, it is a very useful tool. Firehooks has it listed in their latest catalog.
  4. I will attempt to answer some if not all questions. The brigade runs from 08:00 to 15:30, Monday to Friday-except holidays. It is made up of 22 members, the majority of which are interior firefighters. It runs with U-3, E-8, as well as the apparatus that are assigned to the FTC, E-7 & L-7. From 15:30 till 08:00, the campus is covered by Valhalla and Hawthorne. DES, is composed of 4 divisions, Fire, EMS, OEM and 60 Control. DES runs the county fire training center. The ladder and engine at the training center are for use by the various classes run there as well as for the career academy. Having the 2 rigs there, also makes a little easier on the instructors. If, for whatever reason, a requested rig dosen't show, they have those 2 rigs to use. Plus, having the ladder, a 105' stick, adds variety to a county populated by tower ladders. U-3 and U-76, have been in service since June of this year. The flatbed is a Freightliner M-2, not International. The use of that rig is to be determined.
  5. It is designated Utilty-3, primary use is a vehicle for the Grasslands Fire Brigade, it replaced a 1980's chevy van as well as MA-2, a 1977 Dodge/Pierce mini-attack. it is a twin to Utility-76, except for color. U-76 primarily is a tow vehicle, for the various trailers that DES has, as well as a equipment carrier. U-3, when not being used by the brigade, is used as a transport vehicle as well, for trailers and equipment. And no, that is no a Q on the front, it's a Q cover over an electric unit.
  6. OK- I might have been dozing off and dreaming but did I just here on trunk Fire 13 , that somebody had a dead Moose in there district?
  7. I usually get my dies and brass online. There are some shows in the area, and a good sized one in West Springfield,MA, where you can get just about everything you need. My advice is to avoid if possible getting powder and primers online, they are declared a haz-mat and shipping charges are getting out of hand. You have a Gander Mt. in Middletown and a Cabelas store in Hartford, CT. If you look for deals, you can find companies that have press/die combos, usually in the more popular calibers-.45,9mm,5.56 etc.
  8. If you go to KME's website and look at "Demo Vehicles", you will see the specs for this rig.
  9. Not to get off subject but,I have a question for our members of river town deptments. Is there a large scale,multi-agecny drill planned for sometime mid-July? I have heard rumor of one.
  10. Chappaqua TL-27 was set up in rear of the unit Valhalla R-9 was FAST Millwood R-36 was casacde As we were returning, saw a Chappaqua engine in Hays Hose.
  11. From top to Bottom- Eng 82-1966 Eng 81-1956 (Engine co. antique) Patrol 12-1932 (Independent antique) Rescue 9-1960 Ladder 49-1972 We have also had several other Maxims- 1929 Pumper 1951 Pumper 1951 75' Ladder 1978 Pumper The 51' Ladder was recently scene on E-bay, don't know what happened to it. The 71' Ladder last I heard was still going strong in Preble,NY. The 78' Pumper was a spare in Rye Brook, it recently turned up in a private collection in Upstate, NY. The 66' Pumper was turned into a tanker and worked down south somewhere. The 60' Rescue went south of the border-I believe South America. The Rescue served us for a total of 34 years, it had the open cab enclosed around 1973 ,and a full rehab in the early 1980's
  12. I believe that Montgomery County cancelled that order after taking delivery of the first rig. Don't know if Wolverine got it or if the county will re-bid it
  13. It is a Oshkosh alright, looks like the chassis that Oshkosh built the R-11 (?) US Airforce fuel tanker on. It was a 6x4 chassis, one of the few non-all-wheel-drive chassis they marketed. Any ex-Airforce guys out there?
  14. Sorry my bad, I missed the "s"
  15. As for rear-mounts, other than the AmFrance from AMT or some european models from Revell or Italeri, there really is nothing out there. SSB Resin (SSB Resin.com) makes 1/24th scale cabs and bodies, and other parts, for FDNY style pumpers and squads and will market a 95' Aerialscope sometime in the near future.

  22. There is a picture of 299 in the apparatus section under the thread of "yonkers spare pool", I took it about about a month or so ago.
  23. Actually-FWD-"Four Wheel Drive auto company" is the parent organization of Seagrave. FWD made heavy duty off and on road: snowplows, ARFF vehicles. At one time they made a chassis for fire apparatus-I belive Bedford Hills had a engine and a snorkel on that chassis.. Recently, FWD was bought by former American LaFrance and Freightliner chairman James Hebe. He acquired the FWD corporation,Seagrave,Aerialscope, and Almote Fire Trucks of Canada.
  24. Just a little note about YFD Mack engines, a 1990 mack engine, E-299 has been used at WCFTC for their in service training. [attachmentid=2707]
  25. That would be R-88, WPFD's resue unit
