Very good article and has good good insight of what goes on in all volunteer town/counties.

There are two good ones I have heard. 1. Engine # to dispatch " can we have the address please" Dispatch to engine # " it will be the first burning building on your left. 2. Engine # is dispatched to a port o potty of fire Scene size up from engine # "engine 5 on scene single store plastic structure fully evolved" Great times with some great guys. Epically when you can bring up things like these years after they happen.

That went on to replace there 1975 Ward Lefrance that they purchased from Wooster Hose Co #5 in Danbury, CT. If was protecting an ambulance at a scene on a highway and got totaled by a tractor trailer as the emt loaded the patient in the bus. Thank god no one was injured but the truck pump was fully displaced. Glad to see they got some newer equipment. We said to hear about our old rig getting wrecked in that accident.

In Danbury when the roads start to get bad they give a Signal 40 which is to chain up all the machines career and volunteer. Our Volunteer engine has onspot so if they are only calling for an inch of so we will not put the chains on but if they expect more than 3 inches we will put full chains on the truck to get around the slick roads.

In our Department Danbury Engine - 5 We ride the highest ranking officer in the officers seat then the driver is the lowest ranking officer. If there is no other officer then senior most driver will drive and in what we call the 3rd seat (since we need at least 3 to roll) is the next senior most firefighter.
