A side note: Always glad to see Sit and Wait---err--Scott and White Ambo's....the Ambulances used to be run by the local funeral home... Any time we saw them running without lights and sirens we figured they were drumming up their own business....

Please keep the pics coming!! As a 21 year resident of Temple, and now a 14 year resident of Sullivan County, NY I have not seen the new station till now. Glad to see them progressing.

Actually it was only about 3 inches from her forehead, i was astonished she was awake, and talked to me no problem. She did not have any obvious injuries and did not even start to complain about her ankle until a few minutes into it. The bucket missed the bumper entirely, and caught the roof just right..driver side door was intact, and not a singe airbag inflated. Great job guys, i understand y'all were buzy that day, but your crew did a great job. I think she was slightly P.O.ed she had the car less than one day. But i think it saved her tail. Mike

OK, im confused. I understand the proposed system is different, but the current system (in my county)is VHF and ham is VHF so they work different?

Please bear with me as i ask stupid questions, i am not up on Radio technology or the workings of state contracts So i am to understand we (taxpayers, first responders) have already spent millions(?) on a statewide system that does not work, has been in the works for several years and is unable to even pass simple tests (even in other states), and will eventually cost billions? Yet ham radio operators have system that can talk across the world on mobile, across the country on hand portables. Several years ago my Company gave us Nextels, and i used them to talk via radio to people in San Diego on a daily basis. Since then we went to regular Cell service. Even that is operational in more places than what i have seen so far. $3000-$5000 for hand radios and mobiles? Is it possible justify that kind of cost to anyone when even the most expensive electronics sell for a few hundred (and probly only cost a few dollars to manufacture!) Do you really beleive there is justification to charge $500 for a pager? Again, i apologise for the rant, maybe it does cost hundreds of dollars to manufacture some of these items. Please enlighten me.

Used the site for several evolutions while the brand new Sullivan County training center was not available. We had a tremendous maze, smoked filled multiple rooms, obstacle course and others. The room size was tremendous. not like todays hotels. Run up to 3rd floor, crawl down hallway, carry old metal door, then run down another hall, down 3 flights of stairs, around front, up a ladder, and that was just to test how long our packs were going to last. Fas as i know all live fire is now in the Training center. Was stressed, whatever we left behind the vagrants were going to have in 5 minutes.

Posted yesterday: So you are first on scene and see the TT on its side down an embankment on interstate XX or whatever main road in your district. What is your actions? Protocols? SOP? Give a Probie a flare and have him check it out? Seriously, i would believe it shouldn't vary much from place to place, just interested to see if there are any differences or better ideas....

This incident actually happened 2 county's away, and i believe the bomb squad was called, but since i have a major highway running thru my district, it set me to thinking. The moral dilemma about the driver is something to consider. Do you wave at the guy from a 1/2 mile away and tell him to have a seat and have a cigarette? Whom do you send to go check him out? Is Risk vs Benefit the question here? Just how much manpower do you need to evacuate if it happened in a bad spot? What would be the worst spot? Hummmm.......

Bravoing? And what would the meaning for that be???? sounds a bit dirty to me..... Boy, was my boss pissed!! Went into his office and really got Bravoed!!!! Hey, check her out, id really like to bravo her....

I see signs on the Bear Mountain Bridge not allowing pictures. Yet on line there are pictures,i could never possibly get, from the top of the towers!! If the terrorists wanted pictures, do you think there are not plenty of places to get not only pics, but possibly the actual drawings themselves?? Come on, whom are they kidding? http://www.nysba.state.ny.us/bridgepages/BMB/walk/frame.htm

Why dont lurkers reply? Well, i for one have not been doing this for too long. I use these forums for learning, reading everything i can get my hands on. Sure i have opinions, but i feel i can learn more by listening than anything else. Got 2 ears and only one mouth, cause listening is twice as important as speaking

Aircraft are struck by lightning all the time. In the air, since they are not "grounded", they usually pass thru the shock without even a blink of the interior lights. Did see a plane after it was hit by a bolt while it was on the ground. Melted the low freq FM antenna into a puddle of goo. Other than that not a mark on her. Pilot didnt notice until his radio started sounding "weak"

Date: 5/21/07 Time:4:46 AM Location: Greenwich, United Kingdom Departments: Description: Clipper Ship Cutty Sark burned Links: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article1825993.ece Writer: From Times OnlineMay 22, 2007 Cutty Sark needs money as police hunt for clues Aerial photograph of the remains of the Cutty Sark in Greenwich, East London after a fire yesterday. (Tim Ockenden/PA) Times Online and PA news Forensic scientists and fire investigators combed the burned remains of the Cutty Sark today for clues about yesterday's suspicious fire. Police photographers were among the first to be allowed onto the site of the blaze at a dry dock in Greenwich, south east London. Detectives are treating the fire on the ship as suspicious and are examining CCTV footage taken in the hours before emergency services were alerted at 4.46am yesterday. London Fire Brigade investigators are concentrating on finding the source of the fire, reported by witnesses to be near the middle of the ship. The Cutty Sark Trust, which manages the tea clipper, which once sailed from Australia to London in just 67 days, said the wreckage is a crime scene and only investigators have access. Related Links Cutty Sark CCTV scoured for evidence of vandals Cutty Sark fate Conservation workers must wait to find out whether the ship's wrought iron hull, built in 1860s to maximise her grace and speed, may have buckled in the heat. So far, conservationists have expressed cautious optimism that many of the Cutty Sark's main timbers only suffered burns to their surface but the damage to the hull will only be determined by structural engineers. The Trust is appealing to supporters across the world to help raise the millions of pounds needed to rebuild the clipper. The Duke of Edinburgh was expected to see the scale of the task for himself on a visit to Greenwich this afternoon. Prince Philip, president of the Cutty Sark Trust, is a keen naval historian and already a supporter of the £25 million restoration project which was already underway and may have saved the ship because it involved the removal of many parts, including its masts, coach houses and planking from the dry dock where the fire took place. The fire damage is expected to add millions to the final restoration bill and seriously delay the anticipated public reopening date in 2009. Richard Doughty, chief executive of the Cutty Sark Trust, said: “The Cutty Sark is a national treasure, a piece of maritime history that we must save. We have already been overwhelmed by the public response from all corners of the world, who are so saddened by yesterday’s fire. “We are calling on people everywhere to donate funds to help us preserve this glorious ship for future generations.†The trust said that an anonymous donor has already pledged £100,000 to the restoration appeal fund. Louise Massara, of the Trust, said the sum was a welcome kick-start for the appeal and that many smaller donations had already been made to a dedicated website, which had raised more than £14,000 as of this afternoon. “All of the small amounts coming in are making a huge

Nothing new, when i was in i was in charge of a .50 cal, and only ran 50 rounds thru it twice in the whole 3 years i had it. Didnt have the money for Ammo, it all went to the tankers. Used to go downtown and pay for out of our pockets to get parts for the Chrysler 440 Hemi motors in the APC that were from 1960, and even had a jeep from 1952. This was in 1980. Did you know that the USS JFK (CV 63) is not considered operational due to the cats and arresting gear dont work? The Navy kept cutting and cutting maintence to save money, so now she is not allowed aircraft and can only do basic seamanship drills. I know she is old, but she was not due to go out of service till her replacement came on-line---CVN77 GW Bush--in 2008

Sure is, but its more of a common sense law to me. Dont get me wrong, i have answered the cell while driving, and have seen how easy it is to get distracted, but never have i seen it as bad as what i witnessed. Reminds me of what i read somewhere, where a automaker from europe was first importing cars to the US and was asked to put cupholders in the cars. They wanted to know why do you need cupholders, the occupant are supposed to be driving. I posted it here on this forum, not just to rant and rave, but since she was "one of ours" hopefully she whould see it here and consider.

Recent article--Bergen Record...maybe "Son of Super Pumper"? 12 INCH HOSE to supply!! Super soaker makes its debut Monday, November 20, 2006 By MATTHEW VAN DUSEN STAFF WRITER It's a fire engine for the terrifying events: an explosion at the sprawling Bayway Refinery in Elizabeth or a blaze at one of the many nearby oil tank farms. On Sunday at the Oradell Reservoir, about 100 firefighters mainly from Bergen County fire departments watched as the multimillion-dollar Neptune Pumping System shot a thick rope of water about 500 feet into the distance. "That's a nice stream," Morris Township fire Capt. Jason Merrick said as he flicked a knob on the "Ironman" foam delivery device -- basically, a giant water gun -- and focused the stream. Take that, industrial blaze. State Fire Marshal Lawrence Petrillo said he found that local departments didn't have the equipment to fight large industrial fires so he bought the pumping system and other gear with $3.2 million of grant money from the Department of Homeland Security. The systems can move 5,000 gallons a minute, compared with the 1,000- to 1,500-gallon-per-minute rate of standard fire engines, and can lift water from creeks or lakes 50 feet below the pump system, about three times the range of standard engines. The system has two small pumps that submerge or sit in water and feed the main pump, which is housed in a trailer. The water flows out of the main pump at high pressure into the Ironman or smaller mounts. The gear, which includes pickup trucks, is divided among departments in Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, Union and Morris counties, but only the latter two have the full pumping systems. The Morris County task force provided the gear for Sunday's demonstration. It takes a while to get all the pieces in the same place and assemble them. Not including travel time, it took at least one hour of setup that involved heavy moving equipment before the water started flowing. But Petrillo said fighting industrial fires requires planning, which takes time. "When we're dealing with flammable liquids, it's not like a rush deal. It's not like a house fire," Petrillo said. The system can also back up municipal water systems because its 12-inch hoses can carry potable water. It was no coincidence that Sunday's training event took place at United Water's Haworth Water Treatment Plant in front of company Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Scott Para. The demonstration went smoothly until an aluminum coupling that secured one of the hoses to the pump burst off and water spilled over the parking lot. "That's an example of why we have training," Petrillo said. The system was up and running again minutes later. Firefighters stood with their digital cameras taking pictures of the device, probably hoping they never see a fire big enough to warrant its use. E-mail: vandusen@northjersey.com

We all have seen it, the driver with the cell phone plastered to their ear. But the one i observed this morning on my way to work really stood out as being exceptional. She was resting her elbow on the center console, so she had to tilt her head at 45 degrees just to get her ear to the cell phone. This position must have cut off the blood flow to her head, as her driving was so erratic as to be frightening. She repeatly crossed the double yellow and then veered over to the rumble strips, leading me to beleive the car was more in control than she was. One second she was 200 ft behind me, but for the most part she was tailgating so close i could not see most of her hood much less the bumper of the car or the plate. Not only exceptional as to the total loss of control, but the foot long strip of LED's on her dash told me she was part of our community. One of us. How can some one who safety should be paramount on their minds at all times display one of the worst cases of distracted driving i have ever seen? Are we not trained Safety first/scene safety/every one goes home? Maybe since she was not "on-duty" she figured it did not matter. Maybe she drove like that so she would not have to turn on her lights, i know i dang sure wanted to get out of her way. Maybe...dosent cut it. Point of all my rambleing is folks, we are the ones drilled and trained in safety. Practice safety all the time so its not one of our brothers/sisters that we are responding to.

Fantastic site, Seth, thank you and your team for all your incredible work and dedication. We all know that there are jerks out there in anything we do, get past them and know that what you are doing here just might make the difference between 4,999 members and 5,000. There is information here that can possibly save mine or someone elses life. I want to thank you on behalf of myself and my family, for without brothers like you looking out for each other there might be one more family with one less member.
