A side note: Always glad to see Sit and Wait---err--Scott and White Ambo's....the Ambulances used to be run by the local funeral home... Any time we saw them running without lights and sirens we figured they were drumming up their own business....

Actually it was only about 3 inches from her forehead, i was astonished she was awake, and talked to me no problem. She did not have any obvious injuries and did not even start to complain about her ankle until a few minutes into it. The bucket missed the bumper entirely, and caught the roof just right..driver side door was intact, and not a singe airbag inflated. Great job guys, i understand y'all were buzy that day, but your crew did a great job. I think she was slightly P.O.ed she had the car less than one day. But i think it saved her tail. Mike

OK, im confused. I understand the proposed system is different, but the current system (in my county)is VHF and ham is VHF so they work different?

Please bear with me as i ask stupid questions, i am not up on Radio technology or the workings of state contracts So i am to understand we (taxpayers, first responders) have already spent millions(?) on a statewide system that does not work, has been in the works for several years and is unable to even pass simple tests (even in other states), and will eventually cost billions? Yet ham radio operators have system that can talk across the world on mobile, across the country on hand portables. Several years ago my Company gave us Nextels, and i used them to talk via radio to people in San Diego on a daily basis. Since then we went to regular Cell service. Even that is operational in more places than what i have seen so far. $3000-$5000 for hand radios and mobiles? Is it possible justify that kind of cost to anyone when even the most expensive electronics sell for a few hundred (and probly only cost a few dollars to manufacture!) Do you really beleive there is justification to charge $500 for a pager? Again, i apologise for the rant, maybe it does cost hundreds of dollars to manufacture some of these items. Please enlighten me.

Used the site for several evolutions while the brand new Sullivan County training center was not available. We had a tremendous maze, smoked filled multiple rooms, obstacle course and others. The room size was tremendous. not like todays hotels. Run up to 3rd floor, crawl down hallway, carry old metal door, then run down another hall, down 3 flights of stairs, around front, up a ladder, and that was just to test how long our packs were going to last. Fas as i know all live fire is now in the Training center. Was stressed, whatever we left behind the vagrants were going to have in 5 minutes.

This incident actually happened 2 county's away,and i believe the bomb squad was called, but since i have a major highway running thru my district, it set me to thinking. The moral dilemma about the driver is something to consider. Do you wave at the guy from a 1/2 mile away and tell him to have a seat and have a cigarette? Whom do you send to go check him out? Is Risk vs Benefit the question here? Just how much manpower do you need to evacuate if it happened in a bad spot? What would be the worst spot? Hummmm.......

Posted yesterday: So you are first on scene and see the TT on its side down an embankment on interstate XX or whatever main road in your district. What is your actions? Protocols? SOP? I see signs on the Bear Mountain Bridge not allowing pictures. Yet on line there are pictures,i could never possibly get, from the top of the towers!! If the terrorists wanted pictures, do you think there are not plenty of places to get not only pics, but possibly the actual drawings themselves?? Aircraft are struck by lightning all the time. In the air, since they are not "grounded", they usually pass thru the shock without even a blink of the interior lights. Did see a plane after it was hit by a bolt while it was on the ground. Melted the low freq FM antenna into a puddle of goo. Other than that not a mark on her. Pilot didnt notice until his radio started sounding "weak"
