This is the problem I have, I'm not sure how many departments there on in Putnam county but I can bet that every department has a rig that has RESCUE on the side of it. Now you can put the lastest and greatest tools and equipment on it. The moment that rig leave the firehouse with a crew like the one stated above,to me that's not a RESCUE. When rigs leave understaffed and with unqualified members that's unacceptable, when you're struggling to do the basics, you shouldn't even think about attempting to do more advanced stuff. Each department should worry about themselves first, increase your manpower and level of training first. Stop worrying about cool t-shirts and how many certifications you have on your was. That doesn't mean anything when it's business hours and it's blowing out windows.

I guess all the firefighters and chiefs on the roof who gave reports and conditions wasn't enough or believeable.

So your saying the 37 Port Authority Police Officers who gave their lives on that day were "glorified security guards " ?

Since almost every dept is requiring EMT. Doing CFR and then EMT a few months later is a waste of time

Thanks for putting that into context. I guess some people always smell a rat with government, thus even a good idea that saves them money and improves service must somehow be a bad deal. Sadly it looks like it means those FD's will continue to run unsafely understaffed, a factor that the voters didn't seem to grasp.

Hermosa Beach is a seaside town of 19,000 with a fire department that consists of one fire engine and an ambulance. If you can't see how regional services delivery could help a community like that I don't know who could. The whole south bay consists of two engine and one truck departments like Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo, and El Segundo which could regionalize like say, North Hudson NJ or the Verdugo cities in the LA basin. Besides those, there's Torrance, a mid size department and then the inland cities like Inglewood, Hawthorne and Carson as well as the Palos Verde area which are all LACoFD.

While better information is of course valuable, the only thing that will reduce response times is more crews and don't hold your breath waiting for Con Edison to do that.

How can you be an "ex-felon"?  Once you are convicted of a felony aren't you a felon for life?  This entire premise is bizarre...were their convictions overturned or is the article just idiocy.

The issue is the school policy, not the enforcement of it. The ban on something that simply looks like something else is what leads to a kid being told he can't wear his father's FD T-shirt because some gangs also wear blue, or that you can't top cupcakes with green plastic army men because the figures have guns violate the weapons policy. School administrators clearly do not live anywhere near reality.

16fire5 called it in his post.
The term "All Hands" (officially a Signal 7-5) usually is transmitted after a 10-75 has been requested.
A 10-75 is not only for fire. It can be used for any response. It is simply a resource request, not meaning working fire, although that is the most common usage.
It is simply a request for the following:
    (copied from the NYFD.com site)

"A notification signal transmitted when, in the judgment of the officer in command, conditions indicate a fire or emergency that requires a total response of the following units: 4 Engines, 2 Ladders, 2 Battalion Chiefs, 1 Rescue Company and Squad Company. Officers transmitting a 10-75 shall also state if it is for a fire or emergency and if a building is involved along with the type of building."

If these units respond and all are put to work, then the Signal 7-5 is transmitted.
Although, the term you would hear on the radio would be "All Hands" are operating.
If the 10-75 is given and as an example, in the end, only 2 engines and 2 trucks are "put to work", the "All Hands" designation would not be used.

"All hands" or signal 7-5 (not to be confused with 10-75 are most frequently used when referring to structural fires.  But not necessarily.  You can transmit a 10-75 for a fire or emergency.  Gas leaks, manhole fires, brush fires, and other incident can and do result in the transmission of a 10-75.  As for the all hands when 3 and 2 are being used you are using all hands.  A reported structural fire gets an assignment of 3 engines, 2 trucks, and a battalion chief.  If the chief uses 2 and 2 and holds the 3rd engine fast it's not an all hands.  The scenarios with using 2 and 2 on the highway box don't constitute an all hands.

As for the SOC unit response
The transmission of a 10-75 results in the dispatch of the normally assigned rescue and squad if available.  If the fire/incident escalates to an all hands doubtful a rescue and squad will be assigned regardless.  If a chief advises he used all hands and is under control they will not receive the SOC units and other specialized units.

I'm sure this is still confusing and I'm not sure I'm doing it justice but I'll use and example of a working fire to show the units assigned and timing.

Phone call reporting a fire in a building.
3 Engines, 2 Ladders, and 1 Battalion Chief are dispatched.

First engine arrives and finds a working fire and transmits a 10-75.
4th Engine is assigned, 3 truck(FAST), additional Battalion Chief, and the Deputy Chief is notified

Usually at the first progress report the chief notes what he is using.  This is usually when the all hands is transmitted with the status of the fire Doubtful, probably will hold, under control.

In the outer boroughs the vast majority of "All Hands" are transmitted for fires.

I find it particularly disturbing that Narcan is being distributed - widely - to combat illegal narcotics while the cost of an epi-pen is borne by the potential victim.

How many of the shareholders who profited from the three fold stock price increase were members of Congress, aware of the coming price increases and the Federal block grants to place these pens in thousands of locations.

That's how they all get wealthy having gone into Congress 'not wealthy'. Insider trading on confidential information is NOT illegal for members of Congress. Just the rest of us.

Another red light, green light 1, 2, 3 discussion....

If you use a blue light, don't drive like an a$$hole, period. If people want to pull over as a curtesy, terrific. If not, do not tailgate, do not flash your high beams, just deal with it. Regardless, you are to still obey all traffic laws. You are better off not using a light.

As for this new change in the law, I think it's great. Anything that's meant to further protect emergency services is ok in my book.
