From what I heard neither Pleasantville or Mt Pleasant wanted to merge/consolidate with each other. Let's face it unless something really big changes (like we find gold under the Old Faithful or something) the town PD's will probably be next.
-
I saw in the run totals that Piermont is the only FD in Rockland that runs an ambulance. What happened to 17-EM? They were a really busy EMS unit back in the day and I never heard what happened to them?

If he/she can do the job, I don't care what color, sex, religion, size, politics, etc., they are. If they can't do the job, they have no business being in the position regardless of the color, sex, religion, size, politics, etc.

There is definitely an attitude toward the cops! It's a shame too. Some of the best discussions on this site come from those damn cops. There is also no more "brotherhood". Just a lot of lip service by self serving egomaniacs who'll just as soon atab you in the back as help you out. This isn't just the fire service either. It's all the emergency services. Everybody's in it for themselves.

This is why every accident should be given out as a rollover/extrication and every medical as a CPR in progress. If that doesn't generate a response nothing will. Everybody knows the system is broken and we keep putting bandaid after bandaid over the probelm instead of finding real fixes.
-
If you need portable radios and members on scene to make driving to the scene safer there are bigger problems than how you measure response time. I've never seen a study that said radio reports would prevent FF deaths or injuries. I've seen studies that said training reduces them so maybe instead of yahoo's (your word) with radios maybe we need more driver training and better supervision? Nobody's response time is under 4 minutes unless they have a staffed truck sitting in their stations and even then it can't be 100% of the time. I sit in my medic unit most of the time and geography makes it impossible keep response times under 4 minutes. People gotta stop with the BS stats.

Why? Because they're the State Police and don't need anyone else's help. Unified Command? The State Police doesn't do unified command. They're the State Police. Flying people from Albany is ridiculous when you have Westchester County, Greenburgh, Yonkers, Mount Vernon and White Plains all within minutes but that's not how the State operates. Calling for help would be admitting that they are spread too thin and like everyone else are doing more with less. They have to maintain the illusion that they are the great Oz and you're not allowed to look behind the curtain.

So day-time coverage of the hospital facilities remains and we're just talking about the overnight? Is that 1900-0700? What kind of call volume are we talking about on the overnights from the reservation? 2 a week? 3 a week? Does anyoen really know?

Then maybe the town should finally get its act together and develop a comprehensive system instead of the patchwork nonsense it has now. If they need a second medic in the Town of Mt Pleasant, they should pay for one. The days of "free" coverage through revenue recovery are winding down and everyone is looking for someone else to cover them. Nonsense. Build a system.

Not a rumor. Both districts, Hawthorne and Valhalla have receied subsidies (I wouldn't call them incentives) to respond to calls in their district on County property. Used to be, years ago, to the tune of 40 or 50K each.

That was sarcasm, boys. Sarcasm. That terminal is a joke. With the number of people they're moving through it it should be double or triple the size. Stop bowing to the anti-airport morons who keep complaining and make it what it should be. A real airport. I've flown out of Westchester a number of times but will choose Stewart and even Newark over Westchester every time.
-
With all the extra space they have in the terminal now they could put in Customs and Immigration stations without a problem. I'm amazed that they're doing direct flights from Westchester. Now if they could just figure out what to do with all the cars that will need parking.

Lohud article on Indian Point relicensing So instead of Indian Point we should buy our electricity from Canada? Where's the logic in that.
-
I have no idea if Greenburgh does or doesnt need a new PD. But to suggest a police and fire training center theres already one less than 5 miles away. Building another is a stupid duplication just to keep another fiefdom.

Or Somers could just continue providing the service that they're taxing people for. It's not like Heritage Hills has a high volume of 2AM toothache calls like you get in the projects. So what they're 1/4 the call volume? They're paying for more than their share of taxes in Somers arent they?
-
Nice picture. Should say "UNDERPAID EMT's and PARAMEDICS" though. They're not fighting a fire in that picture are they?
-
For crying out loud, PICK ONE! Either be an EMS person or fire person on the call. You can't do both at the same time. If both officers are telling you to do something different tell them to sort it out.
-
Heritage Hills residents pay Somers taxes. How can you say they have a negative effect on the volunteers? It's part of their Town? HH has as much right to the service as any other taxpayer in the town. I could see the point if they were tax exempt like so many schools up in Poughkeepsie/Arlington area but they're paying. IBM and Pepsi already pay taxes. Why should they pay for HH EMS coverage too? So one call in four is at HH. So what? That's where the population is, right?
-
A sore subject for me today. I'll say that apparatus operators definitely need more training and experience but to call it a promotion is wrong. The FF they carry by far do a more dangerous job and to call the driver more important and promote them is a bad idea. Volunteers should be required to train and demonstrate proficiency to the commercial driver standard (even if they're not licensed as such). Taking Johnny out for a spin or two and then calling him a driver is B A D, bad!

A great day overall for sure and I surely hope that Putnam does it again next year. BUT! How can you call a fire engine backing over a senior citizen and putting him into intensive care a "tiny mishap"? The number one goal at any of these events is safety and the fact that someone was nearly killed shows that somebody dropped the ball and should be fired. Your dismissal of this incident as a "tiny mishap" and sarcasm that "well almost all" had an enjoyable day is pathetic. I'm sure everyone involved in this "tiny mishap" is traumatized and I hope none of the children leaving the event had to see it. There are so many failures that contributed to this accident that it boggles my mind. I wish the NTSB or OSHA or USFA investigated all apparatus accidents so they couldn't get swept under the rug like this one is. This was a colossal incident and while we should highlight the positives we can't minimize this catastrophic collapse of the plan.
