Do they provide different treatment for patients based on their initials or DOB? That really serves no purpose if they don't look them up in advance and how often do they do that? Sometimes you do show up and hope they have a bed available. I bet if we put more patients into the waiting room like walk-ins they would eventually stop calling for non-emergencies.

I think you'll find that almost every EMT instructor agrees with you. They will also agree there are probably 30-40 other topics worthy of additional instruction. So the question is are you willing to take an EMT course that is 600 hours long instead of 200? No? You're not? That's too long for an EMT course? Well then, I guess we better cut back to the bare minimums so we appease everyone. EMT Instructors don't have a lot of flexibility. It's not like college professors who can tailor the course to suit their interests or their audience. It's a national curriculum, administered by the state, and course sponsors can't afford to add much to it without incurring additional expenses and pissing off the students.

A lot of skills are only touched on in training courses because there isn't enough time to do them justice. You have to learn them on the job or in other training. Westchester used to offer CME type programs for stuff like this but they weren't well attended. Documentation is critical but we don't teach enough about it.

No idea if that was a traffic signal, stop sign, or what but either way its a reminder to slow down and stop at intersections....even at 3 AM!

If you're in the metro NYC area, there is probably no option for "increasing your capacity" as an EMT-Intermediate. I don't think any agencies in the area use them anymore so there's no training for them anymore. Be a really good EMT. That's the best way to increase your capacity!

Initials? Whose initials and why would you provide them?

Drunk or sober, isn't bow riding illegal anyway? If they were blocking the view of the operator, it's stlil not the barge's fault. The barge didn't make him operate drunk (so accused), or at an unsafe speed (inference), at night with improper equipment (no radar, spot lights). So let's put the responsibility squarely where it belongs - on the operator. How many other boats are transiting the Hudson without crashing into the barges? What does the recreational boater or even the first responder have to do with the issue of life preservers? It's a criminal investigation and the legal authorities will have to filter the truth from the BS. Tragic completely preventable accident. Period.

Just wondering where were the Westchester and Rockland helicopters? Why did NYC have to come up to the TZB again? Was it really a seamless integrated response or was it the usual Rockland command, Westchester Command, everyone does their own thing on the water response?

If in doubt, don't stop. Just keep driving in a safe manner at a safe speed and call 911. If the car is real police there will be more of them pretty quick and you can stop when the conga line gets behind you. If it's not then the conga line will stop the moron trying to stop you. Was it really a "rash" of impersonators?

That's the way I read it too. I don't think they're telling you not to arm your alarm or let it stop a car thief. I think they're saying if you're too stupid to remember where you parked you should have to walk around until you find it rather than hitting the panic button and following the noise and flashing lights. Empire City seems to be trying to be a good neighbor. There have been tons of problems with parking, traffic, etc. so I wouldn't be surprised if that's it.

There's no DES logo on the side. Only Yonkers agencies and since Yonkers is a UASI partner I would guess that Yonkers is the lead for this one.

Doesn't every PD have their own dispatch? I've lost track of what EMS agencies have their own but Somers comes to mind.

That's an hour of my life I'll never get back. I just finished watching the video of that village board meeting and am stunned by how poorly presented that information was and how many times she said "me, me, me, me" or "I, I, I, I, I, I". If it wouldn't make me want to gouge out my own eyeballs I would watch it again and count her references to herself as saviour of IVAC but nobody should have to see that twice. My sympathies to IVAC - and to the Village Board - you are in a bad spot!

I guess you never let your hands slip from the 10 and 2 positions on the steering wheel and never look over at the car next to you to see if that head of blond hair is a babe or a boar. Oops did you just change the radio station or reach for a coffee cup? That must have caused a horrible crash! Your condemnation of the police in this effort is off base and undeserved. The cops can drive and look into the car next to them without crashing. I don't think you're going to see any more accidents involving cops because of this. As for the vehicles, state bid vehicles are way less than 40K. The fact that they're different from regular marked Tahoes was the pitch to the media to get them interested. Really not that big a deal. People don't pay attention to anything so they're not going to see these Tahoes or marked vehicles or a line of flares or that red light. Drivers suck!

Mount Vernon is almost 70,000 people living in 4.4 square miles. They have a big crime problem but their PD is dealing with it. How did Camden get so messed up? Their PD is bigger than Mount Vernon's too.

Isn't Ladder 71 the busiest in the city and the only tower on the west side? 72 and 74 are straight sticks and 75 would be coming from Fortfield. That's a long way for a job down in 303 or 306's first due areas.

Congrats and kudos to the Troopers and the FD chief that took advantage of the available resources. Glad nobody was hurt.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned at all in this thread is talk to the agency investigating the accident BEFORE you cut/disconnect the cables. There is so much electronic data stored in the vehicle these days and it might be lost if power is removed from the system. Some stores permanently but some may be ?volatile? and lost from something like cutting/removing the battery cable. I know how much disdain there is for anything police in the fire service but this may be crucial to their investigation.

Got any photos with the license plates? Are these things even street legal?

I can't believe no members of the Aviation Bronx Fire Patrol have come here to defend themselves and their so called department. You know they're members here. So guys, what's the deal? Are you and FD or JB (just buffs)?

This has to be one of the most asinine threads on Bravo in a long time. Way to hit rock bottom!
-
If all that's being requested is an information update why give it up? Was there some cost or something to the department?

Friends of mine that work for the County PD told me this has been in the works for a lot longer than a month.
