  1. This is now over...all went well.
  2. In Yonkers, unofficial just based on numbers on computer screen shows 162,000 jobs entered into the cad...Of course a number of those are jobs that were completed by the comm staff and duplicates and errors and such. Can check on YFD's numbers today when I go to work. Oh yeah and those are the total jobs entered non specific to fire, ems, pd, and dpw
  3. Gotta love speculation...I heard YFD was getting a chopper (lol). On another note, does anyone know if Rescue 1's current rig will be made their spare or does SOD have other plans?
  4. maybe people will just stay home! I am working in a few hours and would enjoy a regular Sunday evening and not the melee of new years eve as usual. Good luck to all those working the overnight, know it can get messy!
  5. Seth, you should try my lens before you buy another tamron. I purchased the Canon 70-300 digital ef lens from b&h after reviewing many online and at their store. It has image stabilization which makes it very easy to use in low light situation where you have to adjust the frame speed to a slow rate to allow enought light in to get great shots. I get clear shake free shots at even 1/20 speed without using my tripod. Of course my photos never make it to emtbravo because I forget to upload them... It is also 58mm for filters and such... And anyone interested in lessons, see the Tamron website, they have a mailing list and it is very informational. As well, Ritz photo stores also have updated info on classes in the region at their stores, however they are steep on camera's and lenses so when buying definitely shop around!
  6. I know that at Empress we used to call in on the cell phone. Unless you worked with a buff and had a vhf radio and wanted to annoy Lawrence Hospital by encoding and talking over the radio. My opinion is that if the patient can go to triage (i.e. 75% of taxi rides) than there is no reason to notify... just bring em in and sign em up to be seen. If it is serious and they need to be ready, or have to call in specialty services than definitely give them the courtesy call. Remember, these Emergency Rooms are regularly busy and the nurses and doctors time can be better spent on the patients than on the phone with some emt who is giving vitals about a urinary tract infection patient that couldn't get their own ride!!!!!!!
  7. definitely like the snow...too bad none on the ground...Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
  8. and I think LFD has to read the article...something about paving the way for a reciprocal agreement...Wouldn't that mean mnrr trains to Penn?
  9. And how hard would it be to retrofit a current mnrr train to allow for such access...since they spend so much money uselessly anyway! Plus if enough riders on the Hudson Line make noise I am sure we can get them to listen...They are #1 in customer satisfaction as they advertise in their latest issue of the commuter newspaper they print.
  10. Spec Ops pieces at Ridge Hill Fire Station 15
  11. THAT'S RIGHT!!! A few of Jerry's original employees are still in active service in Yonkers. At least 3 of them are dispatchers for YPD/YFD. From their stories, Jerry lived on Livingston Ave and the original units came out of his home. It was passed along and still lives today. Kind of strange that someone I work with now worked for Empress before I was born! And I worked there for a while. On a side note Empress Travel, I believe is also owned by the Minerva family (owner's of Empress EMS).
  12. Too bad it doesn't start tomorrow...going to the Duke v. Gonzaga game at the garden...too expensive to jump on amtrak to penn ($30+)...would love to take an mnrr train right into the basement at penn...Much quicker and a whole lot more convenient!!!!!!!Since the tracks are already there and easy to just throw a switch!!!
  13. Actually I think every dispatch agency in the Hudson Valley, greater NY metro area has spoken to her...partly my fault...I used to just transfer her randomly at every place I worked...thought others were doing it to me...So Seth, you are welcome...didn't want to leave HFD out of the ballgame.
  14. A New system where units are dispatched on a single frequency by a single agency (centralized) and in the dispatch transmission units are directed to which of the other available frequencies that the operation will be communicated upon. Very similar to YFD but enhanced....dispatch channel is just that, tones and trailers and then a voice directing responding co's. recall done on 2nd channel with directions and on scene comm occurring...to better this, units would be assigned an ops ch to be utilized for that run. I.E> First call dispatched on dispatch freq...units to Ops 1 for this assignment. Second call dispatched on dispatch freq...units to Ops 2 for this and so on... Even with just 2 dispatchers you will be able to handle it easily...just have to pay attention (which is hard to ask for from some people). Oh yeah, no more stepping on each other.
  15. RUBBER GLOVES...PROTECT YOURSELF!!!!!...THAT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE AND TAKES UP VERY LITTLE SPACE!
  16. Very interesting...Cause my wife and I took our daughter out to City Island just after Thanksgiving on one of those warm days to just spend some time and we ran into this Truck. I thought it looked different, even my wife who knows nothing about it asked if it was a real nyc fire truck...Never did the research, but now I know the whole story. I think it looks pretty cool, old school meets new school.

  19. Joined Peekskill VAC when I was 14 years old and now work as a dispatcher for Yonkers PD/FD...Guess I don't have too much experience...never really did anything else...btw I am 29 yoa...Outside of that, my mother was an er nurse and my wife is an er nurse...really can't get away!!!!!
  20. My opinion: Air response is a very important asset to those departments that are either 30 minutes or more away from the area trauma center by ground or where an extrication of the victim needing such transport is equal to the amount of time it takes for the helicopter to launch, respond, and land at scene. Then it cuts down the transport time significantly! I don't believe it should ever be used by any department in Westchester County that is along any of the major highways and can rapidly transport a patient immediately from a scene. No one should ever delay said transport to wait for a helicopter. That is plain silly... If you are ready to go, re-assess the condition and travel time...if your in monticello you may want to change the lz and start moving and meet the helicopter at a more convenient location where they can land and get set up...then you pull in, turn em over and they are on their way. At least you are sitting on scene. God forbid the helicopter has a problem and has to cancel. Now you are stuck and have to drive and you just wasted whatever time by waiting and then put your patient in harm's way. Helicopters are cool! But do what is best for those you have vowed to assist!!!!
  21. My brother in law works at the Harmon Yard...said something about the new m7 train cars having a computerized braking system (ie with anti lock features) so every time a leaf caused a slip the brakes went on slightly and the wheel skidded causing them to go flat...remember...these are not rubber tires with air going flat but metal ones that if flat on one side make for an awful bumpy ride.
  22. I never used to drive the ambulance but my partner, x901 and I were both called ambulance drivers by our friends from the fire dept. He was just my *itch...
  23. My wife is an emergency room nurse at St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonkers. She comes home every week with the numbers of patients that are there and wait more than 4 hours rising. Lack of staffing is one issue, but should they be able to turn persons away that do not have true emergencies? I don't know how to solve the problem, but it is going to go away on it's own. More and more our emergency rooms are becoming doctor's offices and clinics, why then do we have these other sites? There needs to be more funding, especially in urban areas where these problems are out of hand. I have a runny nose, I go get some medicine, not to the emergency room by ambulance and then ask for cab fare to the drug store to pick up the tylenol the doctor, whose time I have wasted, told me will work!!! Research is not needed, just talk to the nurses and emts, they will tell you what the problem is!
  24. It is upsetting...some people I know were hoping for this so they could get out now. Does Mr. Pataky feel that the stress we are faced with is not as bad as a police officer? I am a dispatcher and would like to see a chance to leave after 25 years. But, there are those who are worse off. What about EMS workers. Most don't have a pensionable retirement at all so, for now I can live with this. But, I will continue to sign petitions to push the issue in front of the next governor!
