  1. That is very cool. Might be an item FAST would want to have avail...Maybe a County wide initiative to save independent departments some on the total costs. Then it would not matter what dept responds in as FAST to your fire, The tool would be useful at all times. As Remember585's motto goes...less than 100 lodd in 2007...this tool may help save some lives.
  2. Unfortunately we are talking about NY...land of the rich (right!).
  3. You should log onto emtbravowest! They have a wildland section.
  4. Yes I have seen Fairview's...however Montrose FD's is very european secondary to the colors...reflective flourescent orange and yellow.
  5. There was an article recently in the journal news. It talked about lefts are not right at UPS. Pretty interesting, apparently they route their deliveries based on right turns and the driver working off the right side of the vehicle. Talked about time and less danger crossing intersections. As for the trucks, they are cool but I noticed more and more sprinter vans being introduced. At one time I was under the impression that they manufactured their own vehicle but after the recent commercial vehicle enforcement in Yonkers learned that they were manufactured by all different companies. However they are the same in other countries, well at least the ones I have been to. In the article it said they were active in the design of the vehicles.
  6. I don't understand why you can't get a 2% property tax break from your local municipality and the the earned income tax credit too. They should want to help their volunteers by making it more affordable to live in the areas they cover. No offense to any of the younger people on this site but most of you will not be able to buy a home in Westchester County if you go into public service. Prices are still high, taxes are phenomenol, and bills just pile up. Trust me, it is no fun. I will probably go back to volunteering when we have more help around the house, and I hope that there will be some help in it when it comes to serving my town. 2% really ain't that much of a discount and that tax is different than my income tax. (The 2% I save won't be deductible from my income tax anyways).
  7. My Uncle works on FiOs for Verizon. Fiber Optic service is delivered to the outside of you home...once inside it is all Cat 5 (Cable line). Same stuff...just instead of waiting to get to the lines on the poles you get fiber optics up to your house. Cable also runs on fiber optic lines from pole to pole now. Less persons and businesses, however, are on the Verizon Fiber Optic Service because it is newer and less available at this time. They have been lining all over the place in suburban NY. Probably will switch cause the price is better and I can add my 2 cell phones to the plan and get a bigger discount and really pay 1 bill. The only thing I hope is that Verizon can offer a complimentary international service to that of Cablevision. We have relatives all over the world and OV World Call for 19.95 a month (250 minutes) is excellent. No more phone cards... haven't seen Verizon's service yet.
  8. One of my favorite and not so dangerous was the ole dextrose on the windshield.
  9. On the same topic...One night a woman called 911 in Yonkers and told me that her child had thrown their only set of keys to house/car up in the air and it got caught in the wires. Basically I just laughed, I told her to call con ed and see if they could send a crew. This type of situation is a waste of resources. How long does it take to unpack and then re-pack a tower ladder, minutes right. Forbid that someone be trapped in a fire during the time they were operating on getting little kitty from the pole. I think that it was a bad idea (just my opinion), besides being somewhat unsafe.
  10. What are you saying? Cavemen don't have story lines. Geez, everyone hates the cave man!
  11. Oh great, a crossover-van...too many types of vehicles out there...someone get me a hover car, I want to go over the traffic! As for the E-series, I am somewhat dissapointed. I always like van ambulances. I suggest new contracts pick a mercedes benz chasis like overseas, that would be hot!
  12. The PPD truck really looks like a party van. Oh yeah, and the striping (sheparding?) really made me think I was in London for a moment! Then I remembered, that JebJack is a member of the Montrose FD and it all made sense! I actually like it though, can't wait to start seeing EMS units do it, already see County PD cruisers doing it and some random Westchester FD's have taken initiative. As well I believe some of the new Yonkers PD Cars have something similar to the rear, not as obvious though.
  13. That story is kind of old...the better story was in the paper the next day. Same cop is was canvassed for the job of firefighter and was offerred a position in the next academy. Still waiting to see a story on his decision!
  14. I want to get one of those mini studio boxes with the lights, they are cool. I did set up one room in my house with directional halogen lighting to take photos of my daughter and other family members so that we don't have to pay those ridiculous prices of the studios and stores. When not photoging anything the room is my daughters playroom so it does get used all the time.
  15. OMG!!! We don't want him to get eletrocuted too...that is all he needs!

  18. I went to see the Pre-season NIT (college basketball) Championship back in November, at Madison Square Garden. My brother-in-law was in NYC for the first time, so he was amazed when he saw the FDNY in action...even it be very little "action" These photos are of the now retired R1 (I believe) and L21:
  19. With the spare tire underneath in the back... but the lug nut broke off earlier that morning. Just think, they had no spare tire, glad they didn't get a flat.
  20. Who taught you the trick with the tegaderms??? Thought that was my thing, I used to use it for almost all stab wounds that had little to no bleeding and label them for the ER.
  21. I can only call it as I see it...However, it may have been temporarily assigned, cause the company level patch does not exist, just the Rescue Services Logo. I am taking a close look at my Code 3 R3 (the Bronx K).
  22. Nice! Good to see a Rescue in Peekskill. Especially with that new project on Crompond Rd./Lincoln Terr. underway (GraceView Estates?)...Landslide waiting to happen? I wouldn't live there if they gave me $250,000 on top of the cost of a unit! Anything more than that, I would move in tomorrow!
  23. I gotta say, it looks sharp in green...not usual to see the EMS Star Of Life (1/2) in that shade...Hopefully I will get some pics on Sunday at the TriVillage Parade!
  24. To be honest, it looks like they can paint Coca-Cola down the side and have a new delivery truck...so far!
  25. Come on, you never saw the St. Pat's Parade on Television? FYI, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day has some really huge balloons, shaped like popular cartoon characters!
