Careful when you say funded...there is no intention of doing more than poss providing a station or apparatus...funding would entail years of money exchange between the developer and the City. I don't believe that any developer would simply fund a firehouse's existence, just not cost effective...In order to run a firehouse over the years it would become way to expensive and no developer is going to lose money. Most of the time the offers such as buying a piece of apparatus or building a house, and such is to appease the people....very similar to a kickback except that one person is not the recipient and it affects a group of persons in a positive way! As well about a new firehouse...there are currently no plans that I have seen other than those for the Stadium Area downtown that would include a new Fire Headquarters as previously posted/discussed on this site. I have seen prelim drawings for Ridge Hill but nothing really that solid. I also think that there are many things needed to be done about Ridge Hill including an exit ramp from the Sprain Brook Parkway...Having one way in and one way out (NYS Thruway) is really silly in this day and age. If you have ever gone to Stew's or that general vicinity on a Saturday/Sunday it is just a mess. Exit 6A (current) will require major modifications in both the north and south directions, fortunately the area is wide enough to accomodate such mods due to the proximity of the toll barrier which is very wide. IMO exit from NB would have to be a minimum of 4 lanes...2 to go up to RH and 2 to continue over to Stew Leonard Dr/Sprain RD. I can also see another couple of overpasses added to permit traffic going in only one direction E/W between the two locations! From the Sprain they could hook up a rather large exit/entrance thanks to all that space avail just north of the DOT yard...don't think they will build a NB ramp over the reservoir though!

Unusual setup with the 3 independent LED's along the front fenders. Remember the old braun's used to have 3 flashers combined in one housing... but that is kind of an odd look. Otherwise it is pretty sharp...like the retro goth-like writing... Good luck with it! And one more thing are all the ambulances still stored near that field? Is there enough room for 3 units there?

I am sorry but I think it is the photographer most of the time and the camera some of the time. There is a photographer who shoots for Sports Illustrated and all he uses is little disposable cameras. Unusual technique but he is one of the best photographers in the world. Believe it or not his photos are usually featured in the Swimsuit Edition. He is just amazing and can judge light and effect by eye...does not need meters!!!!!!!!!! But practice makes perfect and the digital revolution makes that much easier and less expensive. You have to take a lot of photos and then start to say okay...I need to change frame speed for that light setting or adjust the focus manually because of noise or movement that may affect you shot. Then there are tools such as the image stabilization telephoto zoom lenses that are on the market. During a night or overcast shot it may be necessary to uses a longer frame speed setting while zooming in over some distance and this alleviates the necessity of a tripod in most cases. The more you play the more you figure out! So go get a camera and start shooting everything!

Just wondering how many people have their own radios and what frequencies they carry in order to listen too.

S&*% thought he was trying to fly...you know go real fast and find yourself a ramp and you are off on your way to the orient.

The Ridge Hill area is part of 103 sector at this time...pd wise...this is a 1 man patrol unit 24/7/365...we have heard that it will become a 2 man unit and that possibly an additional sector car will be added. Nothing is official because there is no development as of yet. It is also not uncommon for Yonkers to have mini precincts. There is Radford St (Fire Station 4) which houses Community Affairs at this time and Civil Defense/OEM. There is 28 Wells Ave (4th Pct), near the Yonkers Train Station behind the DMV office which the Getty Square Posts use once in a while...has an emergency phone that rings to HQ if someone needs help or anything. I am sure that if the builder builds a mini pct at the Ridge Hill development that the dept will use it in some fashion. However the 1st pct is not nearly as populated as the others so I do not see a reason for an additional pct to be added. As for Empress they operate on System Status Management or a variation there of. I don't believe that they will just add a unit because of a large development unless monies are provided for it. Instead they will wait and see if the call volume indicates necessity for an additional 911 unit. Remember, none of their units are dedicated to Yonkers all of the time...they respond mutual aid to MV/Pelham, do routine transports, and other things. Unfortunately they are strictly fee for service in Yonkers and they are not really held to dedicated units as a result. It gets the job done for the most part. As for the YFD, remember that these will be new modern structures, fire proof or resistant and all. Effects will not be all that great. They will generate call volume of some type because people are people and forget they are cooking or have medical emergencies, but it is not the first time apartments have been constructed and won't be the last. You can't just add a whole new division because it sounds like a large project...there are a lot of considerations that are deliberated upon. More of a concern is where the Special Ops Teams will go for the time being.

As a dispatcher, I have dealt with onstar. Problem is that when people press there emergency buttons accidentally and then turn off the car, they send the police to the last known area but are often unable to gain contact with the vehicle once again. This sends us on a wild goose chase...have had a few of these in the Yonkers. I don't know if this will really help our industry. BMW has called in jobs in which there was airbag deployment on an auto accident and given us the location...usual faster than cell 911! Also like MB USA's features...very similar to BMW with the airbag deployment...but I believe they called in a roll over once...kind of cool.

nice caddy! need some gold rims!

Dennis Robertson (City Council Member and Mayoral Candidate) announced on News12 that he has been cleared by the FBI. Apparently they are trying to weed out corruption in Yonkers...want to know who filed a report with the FBI.

Someone has to do one of the StopDWI cars from the County, and I will buy it!...I don't have enough time to do it myself.

I agree...living so close, I have never really feared the situation because I understand the actual risks. NO MUSHROOM CLOUD!!! There is so much bs in the press to shut the place down. How would we replace the energy it produces, this is never shown or spoken about in the press or by our reps that are staging a witchhunt to shut it down. Personally I would be affected in a major way, I live in Buchanan, shutting this plant down because of the same relative risk associated with living in general would be ridiculous! They pay a lot of taxes which reduces the amount I pay (selfish but what the he11) and shut down it would pose more of a risk than operating. I could see someone trying to break in to steal something when it is closed and with reduced security if any, but right now that is just now realistic. These groups, such as River Keeper, use energy but don't want it produced...how many of them have solar panels on their homes and wind stations in their yards to create enough energy to live on???? Especially our reps, who use up more fossil fuels in one week than any of us will ever in our life because they are bouncing around the US campaigning to be President and such...once again at our expense!!! Shut it down and raise my taxes, but you better learn how to walk and sweat in the summer cause you won't need a car or an air conditioner...it won't be in your budget!!!

Since this thread opened up I have seen all different types of UPS vehicles. All shapes and sizes...they have an interesting fleet.

what about in the ambulance...there is always free tools...not a sharp or heavy as firefighting tools, but just as dangerous! Still no national standards for them yet!

I couldn't hear it over the dishes I was doing...my daughter came down from her room and said daddy, woooooooo! turned off the water and there it was. Living so close (1/4 mile) to the plant (67th to die), I don't pay attention anyways...will be too late for me!

I believe that they are still around...Haven't been to a fire in Yonkers in a while since I gave up the bus for a headset and no windows! However, they are one of the notifications we make for YFD on 2nd alarms and greater.

I do agree about multi jurisdictional responses. It is not uncommon even in the career agency areas to have such an agreement. On the Bronx River Pkwy between Crane Rd, and Garth Woods (Ardsley Rd) there is one. Yonkers, Eastchester, and Scarsdale FD's all respond to calls in this area as part of an agreement. Of course if E314 or Sq11 were to come along another job i.e. WSF (structure fire) then they would divert knowing that enough responders were already enroute to the prior assignment and that we could backfill the BRP run in moments! This happens all the time in Yonkers when we give out jobs and either new runs come in or units on other jobs become in service. It is an active program. Where I live (Buchanan), they also have an agreement with Montrose and Verplanck FD's. The Tri-Village response. Job is sent to all three depts at once (Structure Fires), first due company goes and others man the rigs ready to respond...cutting down response times to the station once required to respond. So, as to say, WSF in Montrose comes in and while responding the first due co (E123 I think) comes along an auto accident on Albany Post Rd at the Montrose Train Station (? St. name--forgot) and they cannot go around because it is blocking traffic, the next due engine, Buchanan FD should take their place and go a different route as to avoid the MVA existing. In this day and age Mutual Aid is important. Not everyone that lives in a town, village, city is able to be a member of a volunteer dept, sometimes people have other things that need to be done. In the old days pretty much every male member of an area was a member of the fire dept, that time is long over. In summary, mutual aid could be a great idea even on initial dispatch, goes back to sending the FAST on reports of WSF also, not just waiting til they are confirmed and people are already working waiting for the RIT to get on the scene.

Just a few of the Pictures taken. Notice the odd vehicles, like the Peekskill Police ESU Truck 1 (GMC Chasis 5800?), first time I saw that vehicle...and the Health Center Mobile Unit, kind of funny looking to me.

I would be interested in being on this assignment if ever there could be one. A Westchester County Joint Technical Assistance Response Unit. New York City's does so much...this would be an awesome resource for coordinating multiple agency responses and such.

I don't think that is what that says...I think he was just pointing out that a family can qualify for 2 if both persons are involved in the services.
