EMS is unsafe just as police/fire (not in the same manner, of course). You never know what can happen in a matter of moments. You go to a shooting and they clear the scene and you begin to treat the vic and all of a sudden some nut starts shooting down the block. You just never know what can happen! It does, however, come down to personal preference. Technically you are not a target 24/7 like the police but you do wear a similar uniform, in some places, a bit too similar and can be mistaken. Some places dispatch the services separately and may not know of another incident within the general vicinity of the one they have sent you to. I did not wear a vest, and I also did some things that were not so smart without a vest but we live and we learn (hopefully)...and that attitude all changes when you have a family to come home to everyday, you start to put yourself out there less and consider situations differently. If you are a complete BUFF (like I was) then you may want to consider it, but if you aren't then you may go the other way.

What??? You believe in putting everything on a level playing field. Do you not trust the dispatch information????? I mean if you are dispatched to a report of a person not breathing and the Comm Ctr is EMD qualified, and later you are dispatched to a sick person with hematuria, you respond the same? Come on...the dispatchers aren't going to go out of their way to mess with you about the type of call you are being sent to. I mean one I would use my lights and sirens and the other I would most likely take upon myself and not risk anyones life for, whether it be my own, my partners, or any other person on the road!!! I would take the sick on a nice ride without lights and sirens. Safety first, and if I came upon an MVA enroute to either that looks serious I would stop and advise immediately of the condition...get out and assess the condition, update the dispatcher...and decide whether to continue or get someone else to go. Time means everything is right, but if someone was found at a home in Cardiac arrest and they call 5 minutes later then you are sent and have a 10 min drive...say one of the people in the accident that just occurred is in cardiac arrest...you have a better chance at saving their life with immediate care...It is an unfair world and we cannot decide who lives and dies...we just have to do our best all of the time! Duplication of services remains important...Police/Fire should all be trained as First Responders at the very least and should be dispatched on all EMS calls to assist. Cars/Apparatus should all be equipped with defib's without a doubt. Sorry if I went off the original topic just a little bit!

Everyone should buy a pack of pens and just leave them around your station (ie firehouse/vac/comm ctr/pct). Then people may just log on and enjoy themselves and then we all know that buffs like t shirts...so sales may go up from there. EMTBravo @ Parades???? Another place to sell while taking pictures this summer...I will even make sure that I am available for at least one date to help out, camera and a box of shirts, just let me know...2 for the price of 1 (not shirts, but pics/monies)...

$11.99 for a t shirt and 17.99 for a sweatshirt...expensive...wtf where do you shop walmart?????
-
Leave the light bar clear and the push bumper black...You can also get paint pens which you may be able to get a straight line for the striping instead of using tape. Use the painters tape to set up the stripe but make sure the first coat is dry or it will always smudge and never look right. My only experience is repainting of matchbox cars with the tester's model paints...and that was years ago...I have never used an airbrush but that is what they use on real cars so it must work pretty well!

You should send a member to each of those events in the calendar...not only to recruit new members and pass on the word but get permission to sell the merchandise there...maybe a table...someone like x901 would probably volunteer for an assignment of this sort!
-
He couldn't get to either...not enough room for an LZ!
-
Okay, who is buying me AVID??? I have looked at it many times and would love to have it but could not spend 1500 dollars on it...My wife would hang me!!!!!! but 250 is well under the notification bar...I could easily get away with it...then I would have a reason to negotiate for a new desktop computer...I want a media center but it keeps getting put on the back burner because of the new kitchen!
-
Now that is cool!!!!!!!!

I use NERO, it came with my hp lightscribe dvd burner...edit videos of my daughter that we film on a sony hd vid cam.

Once again, duty to act, is the important factor. If you are involved in an accident then you must assess the scene for injuries, if you come across an accident on the way to a fire you are responsible to do the same. As well, when you are driving around in a marked fire/ems/police vehicle and do not stop to assess the condition whether in your jurisdiction or not, someone may write down your information and hang you. I am positive that this has changed many persons minds (Harrison VAC) about using a marked unit to go to and from work. You can't just pass a blind eye, because the public is not going to miss a big red truck with lights and sirens going by...Your best bet is to stop and address the condition at hand, immediately notify your dispatcher of the condition, begin to go to work if necessary and allow your backup to respond to the other job. They can pass the accident knowing full well that you have stopped to help. And of course vice versa...This in itself is another excellent reason for Police ESU in systems as well. If this situation were to arise in Yonkers, and the FD were to come upon a fire enroute to a MVA then at least they know a tool is still going and can worry about putting the wet stuff on the red stuff. Duplication of service is only dangerous when it is misused...Communication is the only answer...Don't stop and not tell someone that you are stopping!!!!!
-
What's that thing in front of the windshield for? It resembles a winch?
-
x635...what no Yonkers 825 car...than doesn't look half bad!!!!! but not nearly as good as the STOP DWI Cars! Nice they have plain white too and a suburban also...maybe I will have to make some time!
-
Seems silly with all that is written about red lights...I could see some to the front but I would prefer amber/blue to the rear...They do have to get through the traffic to move the obstruction but once on the scene I'd rather be safe than sorry... And Seth better check his spelling on the cover page of EMTBravo.com! He has it as bride patrol!! Don't we only wish we could call in a hook when they are hovering! Or maybe it is getting close to his wedding day!
-
You know you bring up a great point with moving off obstructions. Recently I was crossing the Tri-Boro Bridge from the Bx to Queens and there was a fender bender on the bridge. They had 2 of the 3 operating lanes closed with 3 "wreckers" on the scene and 2 police cars. I thought that that was their job to grab the cars and get them off of the highway safely and keep the bridge open fully. They were there for some time cause when I returned from LGA they were still in the same position with EMS units on the scene and FDNY still trying to turn around for it. If the vehicles are not 100% driveable and the injuries are minor where no one's life would be in danger shouldn't they tug em off safely and then deal with the rest? I have never really seen this problem on the TZB other than when the tractor trailers rolled over or caught on fire...but those are extreme situations...

Like a BENEVOLENCE ASSOCIATION...remember, the police unions are called PBA but that is not thier official union, they are constantly soliciting for donations and make political statements of support which get them some voice and power...An EMS association would have to organize, and allow both career and volunteers to participate, as well they would have to show voting power...support a candidate or negate a candidate....and put themself on the map. I am a member of the SEIU at work and our union is not the strongest out of the Yonkers Unions, but they have a welfare fund set up for the members and encourage us to show support as a group. When I was a member of the IAEP there was so much division in the ranks...too many personality conflicts...Someone ought to figure out how the IAFF and the PBA have coordinated their efforts for one common goal over and above the individual and then things will happen (of course this is opinion).

I agree...I miss being on the ambulance but I make more than double what I used to...just wasn't worth working so hard for so little...but I would go back in a minute if it were at least close to equal!
-
Nice updates Chief...310 looks hot...The ALF's are so classy looking
-
Maybe EMTBravoMovers can help...just kidding...I used Safe Move out of Yonkers and they did a great job!
-
I personally feel that this project will proceed. It is a waste of space, not even worth making into parkland considering that on the northern border there of is the Sprain Ridge Park, right? It is an important project to the future of Yonkers...will spur growth and bring in a hell of a lot of revenue to the City. And that is not only important to the IAFF but to all of us City Workers especially the ones who have to handle all the calls it will procure.

Well the current MG is being torn down to make room for larger more modern buildings...I believe the land is property of the MHA and that would mean just larger housing facilities...so don't think the jects are leaving the Y-O for ever...
-
I am sorry but look on the rear quarter panel of the car...this must be something new cause when I used to hang in Albany (college days) their cars did not have this: S Service I Integrity RRespect SIR...and I though NYPD's CPR was crazy! And on a side note...they use the same CAD system as the YPD...always trying to access there cars but can't...just curious to see what they are doing.
-
Okay...that is a much better idea. Possible location?
-
Ah, moving the building? or just building new? I mean it is feasible to move a building and has been done...but it would cost a pretty penny!
